5537+5538 Figures 7
As always the figures were very anticipated. For whatever odd reason. This time around, I figured (uhm.) I'd try preordering them.
It didn't start well. A mess up with the address made it not reach me when it should. I want someone's head. The figures are cursed. I am positive. Anyways, eventually, I got my grabby hands on them.
The boxes are simpler, like series 6 :( The previous ones were prettier.
This time, there isn't something that stands out before having them on hand (like the scot and the archer - or the cavewoman! - in previous series). Same goes for hair, which has been the brightest spot of many series.
So, before I begin in earnest, I will AGAIN repeat my note from the previous review:
I've been told I am sometimes harsh on my comments. Keep in mind I LOVE playmobil. Generally, it's GREAT. Without a doubt and by FAR, the GREATEST toy on the Universe. And also keep in mind that I've gotten a box of each boys and girls since the first series - meaning, despite all the "problems" I point out, they are VERY MUCH WORTH IT. We ALL know playmobil rules, so I suppose I tend to point out the problems. There are only so many ways of saying AWESOME, right?
First impression I got on the first pack was that the paper quality is LOUSY. The leaflet even SMELLS odd. It also feels odd. And more than one of the figures were "dirty", and I'm thinking it was the paper. I decided I would not bag the leaflets with them.
The boxes were both even, and the packs were neatly organized. Made our task of opening one of each a breeze :)
In both boxes, there were no missing parts, and we got these extras:
Nothing terribly exciting. One diver brought TWO extra masks and a hair. And this time, we didn't get any extras of THAT hair... Only more useful ones - and a head! A simple head! :)
(details tomorrow, I think)
-
Ah, you always get some great extra pieces, tahra! I look forward to seeing the details. ;)

Yep, aparently.. :)
Details tomorrow - almost off now.. :zz:

5537 Boys
1. Golden King
Although another king is really not needed, I'll make an exception - he has GORGEOUS colors, and is a perfect match to the queen in the Girls Figures. And the parts... well...
The gold is the same new shade as last series' gladiator, and I like it very much. Though it makes things harder to match. The cape in dark blue with the white thingies (technical term!) is really nice too, though I don't really love that "sculpt".
The sword, of course, doesn't fit the belt. I really wonder who thinks of this things.
The klicky is real nice, though his torso does resemble a pillow :D
I wouldn't mind a few more of those legs. Or arms. :-[
2. Fencer
Nothing wrong with him, but... a reuse of the olympics fencer. Meh. And it wasn't that long ago.
On the plus side, he has nice hair.
And a nice face, with... interesting.. different eyebrows - the reason we kept one (though he'll go to mount 3 with another head, most likely).
3. Cook
YET another cook? What gives?
With THAT hair, but at least in red.
Maybe we can make a(nother) doc from him?
The utensils come bagged (different sized bags :o )
And they are very very nice.
I really don't understand playmobil's obsession with cooks.
4. Cameraman
I do think the guy looks familiar... Is there a fat version? My head isn't what it used to be, unfortunately... :-[
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-boys-camera0.jpg)
He looks nice... except the head.. ::)
Anyways, that torso says VIKING to me...
-
5. Skater
And another skater, male this time, with an audiobook thing around his neck. That thing is plain weird. Whoever thought of putting that around the neck, instead of working like the doctors' stethoscopes? On the plus side, colors are nice, and the hair is also good. On the minus side, MORE diaper legs. Gah.
He'd be stunning, if not for those idiotic legs..
And his torso is also printed on the back!
6. Roman
Yet another repeat officer. Can't they make a new one? Not that he's not nice (roman parts are always nice), but if they're doing repeats on a row, please give us a plain soldier instead?
At least he has "medieval hair", not THAT one, right? ;)
7. Clown
And another clown, with diaper pants.
I suppose the full diaper look can work for a clown - the only thing is good for.. well... or samurais! :) The colors are nice, and the torso is quite... clownish.
8. Astronaut
I like these guys. Not really sure why, but I do.. I think the space guys are great, and he has good "alien colors" too.
The colors are not common with these, I think. Which is a good thing, variety and all.
Unfortunately, here is a fine example of the lack of print quality.
-
9. Gangster
No comment.
Ok, I'll comment. What in HADES is this supposed to be? It is so... OFF. For playmobil. So, soldiers are off, but machine gun armed criminals is ok? Oh wait, he's not a criminal. He's supposed to be... something else. What?
I think he makes a(nother) nice business man, minus gun, but I think this is completely off and unappropriate.
The design of the torso seems to lack the lapels.... so he would need that neckpiece, sadly not included.
10. Robin Hood
A nice archer, well armed.
I just think the dagger "loop" should be brown. Actually, does this mean that shoulder strap thing will be FINALLY available in brown again!?
The sleeves look great - actually he's gorgeous for parts too, in really beautiful colors. No pink, no blue, not even red! :) Great torso, a shame the belt has the common "front only" problem.
11. Diver
A nice diver.. nothing really exciting to me, and made worse because he is a repeat from the duo pack. Meh. Another repeat. Which means, we should not have gotten that duo. One of each diver is (more than) enough.
The klicky is pretty, with nice classic hair, and bright fins..
I think they should have given him a watch too. They gave it to the spaceman instead? ;)
12. Sea Man
I can't stand to look at this one since I first saw him. What were they thinking!? WERE they thinking!? A PERFECTLY colored merman. And then... barefeet. Seriously. Must win the "missed opportunity prize", me thinks. :(
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-boys-seaman0.jpg)
The colors are really inspired, well, would be, if he had a fishtail. >:(
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-boys-seaman1.jpg)
The hair and beard are a nice shade of green (not unseen before, I think). Strange that the nice thin bracelets are silver instead of gold, but is easily fixed if we so wish.
:hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: WHY IN TARTARUS IS HE NOT A MERMAN!? :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:

5538 Girls
1. Golden Queen
A nice, perfectly match for the boys king. She's also GORGEOUS... The gold with the strong pink works great. And nice for parts as well..
The gold is the same new shade, and she has a baby scepter :D I didn't put the stickers on the skirt.
Under she has a matching pink skirt (works great without the large one too) and white FLAT shoes.
This is not a problem of the figures, applies to all of them - you can see in these, I think, how bad the printing of the women's faces is these days. Pixelated. The older ones are smooth, a LOT better.
2. Hippie
This is another case where the official photos don't show everything - she has a pigeon!
Anyways - a good idea, but not very well executed, I think. Those legs really don't work. The feet are.. HORRID :( So, fixing needed. If she had proper legs, she'd be a stunner. Even if she does have.. BRIGHT colors.
The hair is beautiful in brown, and there is also an alienish flower.
And here's a shot of those dreadful DREADFUL shoes..
3. Purple Fairy
The mandatory winged fairy... Nice colors :)
She is pretty, though the hair with the hole has been a bit overused lately.
She is beautiful without the neckpice, and NOT pink!
4. Rider
Another horseless rider. Guess she'd make a good naval commander, but wait - we have enough of those as well.
A shame the torso has the medal printed... Still a beautiful klicky.
Here's the detail of the cuffs:
-
5. Cowgirl
A really nice klicky, even if not very original parts. I suppose for most standards they are not that recent, right?
And they all work GREAT together! She's GORGEOUS - who would think a RED cowboy hat could look so great?
6. Bali Woman
I'm not familiar with the costume, but she looks interesting. And a bit more variety for the skinny bodies.
We both really like her, and for parts too...
This is a new skirt...
7. Nun
I'm completely against more of these. And the parts, unlike the previous one, turn out not to be that great. Cleaning the torso would be impossible unless we'd want it all black - and that seems a waste. The other's headwear was a lot more interesting too...
Of course, we'd expect a nun to have flat shoes, no? The heels make her a LOT less useful. The skirt is a new part, in these colors, but the bad printing doesn't much help.
Something (else) odd - the sticker was ON the book already, unlike with the pregnant woman.
And.. what's with the red book? Can't drop the value of that other one on ebay, is that it?
8. Geologist
A nice figure, especially made in female form. A great idea.
She looks nice (though the vest and the torso don't really work together well - easily fixed).
However, the first one I opened was... A guy! :o
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-girls-geo2.jpg)
Who BTW spent quite a few hours alone in a zipper with a DOZEN women >:D
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-girls-geo3.jpg)
The rest had proper female torsos.
-
9. Jogger
A nice simple figure, but a bit of a repeat - the idea, I mean.. But hey, she's not barefoot. Or worse, in socks!
Note how "light" she is on accessories. These continue to vary wildly.
And the shirt has a lot of potential, I think. But seeing it in the plastic... it is beautiful, it would be a shame to clean it.
10. Woman With Puppy
She REALLY looks familiar, but I can't place her. I'm convinced she's meant to be a character.
Colors are a bit.. bright. I do like the hat mold. It's very... crumpled.
Real shame about those pants. GAH. This time they went over the edge using these. They are HORRID.
11. Snake Lady
This one was a very pleasant surprise..
As before, the headgear kinda hides the head's details.. Not good.
The klicky didn't impress me much...
Untill I saw her back
AMAZING. Real shame about that neon green, but still.. GORGEOUS!
The snake is amazing in that color...
And they all came kinda.. knoted in the packs..
12. Ice Cream Vendor
A nice addition to a booth.
She is a pretty one, and we don't see classic hairs that often anymore!
And, she has white speedos!
She definetely has potential!
-
And that's it.. Details on the kept ones later (though hopefully not AS later as with last series :-[ )
Finally, look how good these are together:
-
Thanks Tahra, great to see them all. It will be at least a month until they show up here. Some great parts there. That big green hat of the hippie girl - in black it would be perfect for a Leonardo da Vinci type figure - that renaissance toque look. Love the metallic green of the snake.
-
Love the metallic green of the snake.
Uhm. I don't think she looks green... Silverish...
-
OK metallic silverish green :D (on my monitor at least)
-
OK metallic silverish green :D (on my monitor at least)
LOL - maybe she is - I'm really not very good with colors.. And we all know by now the extent of my photo skills :-[
-
I had a set list of ones I wanted, but I think that list just grew a bit.
-
 I love almost all of them!
There're two that for me are too poorly designed, the skater guy and the jogger girl. Nothing new about those. The rest are all very interesting.
I haven't noticed the platform shoes in the 60's girl!
And the Bali Woman's dress is fantastic.
The golden parts I LOOOOVVEE!
I can't wait!
-
Great review, and awesome, detailed pictures, as always, tahra! I can't wait to get some of these!
-
Perfect figures all!!!No double faces this time!
-
Thanks for the close up look at them all! Looking forward to whenever we finally get them here.
-
Very nice assortment and great review! Thanks for sharing! :)
-
Thanks for sharing, Tahra! There are a few I really want!
-
Thanks for, once again, sharing photos Tahra!!!
Thoughts:
The king is nice, though gold boots are kind of weird.
I love the cook’s utensils. I’m neutral on the klicky, but those utensils are gorgeous!
The skater has a nice torso, but again those awful pants!
We’ve just had a Roman, but this guy is pretty.
Frankly, I hate clowns, but he looks like an acceptable rendition for those who like them. In any case, I remember someone here needed one of those flowers.
The gangster... I agree with Tahra; it’s a poor choice for a toy. I also think SWAT officers and the agent guy from Series 6 were also poor choices. It’s one thing to have historical military figures; today’s kids aren’t under threat by cannons. I’m uncomfortable with depictions of modern violence in toys because children today do have to deal with gangsters, excessive force by police officers, etc. Playmobil should not evoke fear.
Robin Hood is lovely.
I just don’t even know what to make of the non-merman. He may have some useful parts.
The queen’s hair is lovely, though I think she would have been more stunning in red/gold or light blue/gold.
The hippie... it’s nice to see those hair pieces in brown. Is she properly a hippie? In my mind, hippies wear those long flowing dresses that were popular in the 70’s.
The fairy and the Bali woman... Both are gorgeous (yay, no hole in the back!) but suffer from an inability to sit down. I’d like a 2nd Bali woman to use for a custom.
The rider is lovely, though the medal would have been nice as an accessory.
The cowgirl almost makes me want to collect some western, and I’m not even into western. Cute and well-executed.
I love the nun! I really want the old one, but this one is lovely too. Not too sure about the blush though... I mean, she's a nun.
The geologist is awesome! It’s funny that they gave you a male torso, but hey, now you can make a matching couple.
The girl in purple overalls does look familiar. She’s cute, aside from the low crotch.
I don’t know why anyone would charm snakes in a bathing suit, but I admit I do like lime green.
Cute modern figures that will likely end up with my niece, unless I find them useful for my collection: diver, ice cream girl
Klickies that are okay, but not of particular interest to me: the fencer, the cameraman, space dude, the jogger
-
I had a set list of ones I wanted, but I think that list just grew a bit.
I aim to please :P
The king is nice, though gold boots are kind of weird.
As we discussed someplace else, I think I just got used to golden shoes. Weird, I know.
Weve just had a Roman, but this guy is pretty.
My point is it's the same klicky. Actually, he has a cousin available on the ds NOW. LAZY.
The hippie... its nice to see those hair pieces in brown. Is she properly a hippie? In my mind, hippies wear those long flowing dresses that were popular in the 70s.
I don't much think the legs fit either. And the shoes are UGLY. VERY UGLY.
I love the nun! I really want the old one, but this one is lovely too. Not too sure about the blush though... I mean, she's a nun.
With high heels. And a red book. ::) Can't get over the heels, flat feet would be quite useful.
The geologist is awesome! Its funny that they gave you a male torso, but hey, now you can make a matching couple.
I think someone else mentioned that happening before, but can't remember who.. Unfortunately, THAT particular torso is not that exciting (it may even exist in male form). Can you imagine if it had been the cowgirl torso?
I dont know why anyone would charm snakes in a bathing suit, but I admit I do like lime green.
Uhm. Never thought of that. You do have a point.
-
As we discussed someplace else, I think I just got used to golden shoes. Weird, I know.
I actually own dress flats (real ones) in a gold color, so I can't complain too much about that. I have yet to see gold men's boots in real life though.
My point is it's the same klicky. Actually, he has a cousin available on the ds NOW. LAZY.
Yeah, I don't mind so much since I only have one Roman, but they could have mixed it up a bit, like maybe a Roman woman or something. He is pretty though...
With high heels. And a red book. ::) Can't get over the heels, flat feet would be quite useful.
I don't quite understand what you are getting at with the red book. Bibles and hymnals both frequently come in red. And some nuns wear high heels, though more flats in Playmobil overall would be nice. Did the old nun have heels or flats?
I think someone else mentioned that happening before, but can't remember who.. Unfortunately, THAT particular torso is not that exciting (it may even exist in male form). Can you imagine if it had been the cowgirl torso?
Yeah, not the most interesting torso, but still funny. ;)
-
Yeah, I don't mind so much since I only have one Roman, but they could have mixed it up a bit, like maybe a Roman woman or something. He is pretty though...
He's great. But he's been (or his cousins) in so MANY sets (including the figures!), and still available... Besides, he is a bit.. much - I mean, an officer, not a plain soldier. We always have that problem. "Too many chiefs, too few indians". I don't know if you have that saying.
I don't quite understand what you are getting at with the red book. Bibles and hymnals both frequently come in red.
REALLY!? :o Learn and live. No expert here. Always saw those in black covers.
And some nuns wear high heels, though more flats in Playmobil overall would be nice. Did the old nun have heels or flats?
Beautiful dark flats she has.
Yeah, not the most interesting torso, but still funny. ;)
Very very funny. Funnier cause I actually thought it especially a good idea to make the figure a woman. Then the first one I get... It's a male!
Not sure if a kid getting that would find it funny though. Or a casual buyer. For a lot of us, would be no problem to just find another modern female torso, even if we had gotten just that one, right?
-
Thanks Tahra for this review, very helpfull for me to decide the ones to chase on ebay.
The Bali woman is my favourite, although it's a non- bending klicky.. the dress is wonderful!.
That strange Poseidon could be useful for me as another Faun, mr. Green's cousin or something. I agree there are too many reissues this time. You've used the word 'Lazy', I think that's the right word... or cheap perhaps, getting rid of the old stuff.
That snake has interesting colours and the woman looks good, a must have for me too.
Hey, I remember you were looking for a good, female officer/ warrior torso in one of your other threats, Tahra... The golden queen could be, in spite of the pink, very useful!
Thanks again!
-
He's great. But he's been (or his cousins) in so MANY sets (including the figures!), and still available... Besides, he is a bit.. much - I mean, an officer, not a plain soldier. We always have that problem. "Too many chiefs, too few indians". I don't know if you have that saying.
Yeah, we have a saying like that. I wonder what children think. Do they want regular soldiers and peasants or do they prefer just having officers and royalty?
REALLY!? :o Learn and live. No expert here. Always saw those in black covers.
Black, red, navy, white and brown are common colors. Churches that provide the books in the pews often have the Bibles, hymnals and prayer books different colors, so it's easy to tell which is which. It's pretty common to have one navy, one black, and one red, for instance. However, nowadays, you can find Bibles in any color, if you look for them. I wouldn't mind getting a Playmo book in black though, just because I have enough red Playmo books.
Not sure if a kid getting that would find it funny though. Or a casual buyer. For a lot of us, would be no problem to just find another modern female torso, even if we had gotten just that one, right?
Yeah, a casual buyer might find it irksome. Collectors like us would probably just buy another figure.
-
Hey, I remember you were looking for a good, female officer/ warrior torso in one of your other threats, Tahra... The golden queen could be, in spite of the pink, very useful!
I sorted my roman officers... But I do love the queen. We'll keep all of them. Actually, wouldn't mind a couple more of the royals.. One will DEFINETELY be a female knight.
I wouldn't mind getting a Playmo book in black though, just because I have enough red Playmo books.
There aren't any, right? In black, I mean.. Red is a common enough color, made MORE common by the pregnant figure.. With that same sticker. ::)
-

Not as far as I know. The books I have are red, blue or (less common) white. I don't remember any black.

The Robin Hood totally reminds me of the Errol Flynn version

The Robin Hood totally reminds me of the Errol Flynn version
Me too.. except.. no facial hair!

Thanks for the review a lot to comment on this time round. First off the girls I think the girl with the hippy top has a great vivid design not sure about the matching skirt though, the Blai woman also as a very beautiful dress, also that Cowboy is great I'm not often tempted towards the girls but, this one is very well deisgned and equiped great colours.
I understand what you're saying with the Diver and the Roman should have new figures and original concepts but, on the other side of that there is one advantage that for people like me who didn't get a chance to get them in the original sets then it's a good opporuntity to get the figures cheaply, a diver would be a great addition for me consdering my love of water, although personally I do thing the Roman would look good with a cloak and I agree that ordinary soldiers would be good perhaps in a differnt uinform froma different regiment if you know I mean. The cameraman and the King look better in the flesh although I still don't think I'll be tempted equally I saw a photo of Robin Hood before and it put me off but, your photos are making me reconsider again, not keen on the knife being hung of that holster think it would look better in a belt or round the back and perosnally I think bare arms would have looked better still personal opinion and that torso print is rather nice whne not covered up.
What you said about the Merman having legs not a tail didn't particularly cross my mind until you mentioned it I guess it is a shame but, I'm planning to customise him into a green hero type figure. Clowns aren't normally my think but, there's something about this one with the painted face and the hai plus that lovely birght torso very much remidns me of the bright illustrations you sometimes see on circus signs and the like, the accessories and hat also appeal although the big pants aren't great.

I understand what you're saying with the Diver and the Roman should have new figures and original concepts but, (...)
No, I have no problem with having a diver and a roman (especially the roman!), my problem is being the same klickys. A diver? Fine. But please a different one. And the roman, at least a soldier, not MORE officers. And repeat parts at that :(
Worse, there is a new special+ that's a diver. And the roman's cousin is still available on DS.
What you said about the Merman having legs not a tail didn't particularly cross my mind until you mentioned (...)
We started cursing when we first saw him announced, and can't stop. Made a lot worse by the fact that the color is REALLY great for a merman/mermaid... I mean really. AND not blue or pink = 99.999999% of mertails. :hissyfit:
-
The gangster and geologist and, maybe, the ice cream girl interest me, but only if I can get them by trades.
Maybe the gangster is a Beatles fan, hence the lack of the lapels and collar on his suit.
-
Not a fan of the king and queen at all myself.. Short sleeves look rather weird on a king.. the gold pants don't help either and the purple bits on the torso seem out of place. Especially the queen seems very bleh to me though, with the pink and gold.. the blonde hair doesnt help with it either.
While the roman is nice, why didnt they give him a shield and cape? he looks unfinished.. I really like those roman capes and this could have been a chance to add one in a new color and add a new shield design as well. That alone could have made the figure worth while.
Personly I quite like that the neptune figure does not have a fish tail since thats so very limiting. As he is he can be used as some sort of forest spirit when given different accesoires.
Agreed about the belt on the robin hood figure.. a shame since furthermore he looks nice. The only figure I'd probably may want to get but since I cant use any of the others its not worth the effort to try and feel him through the bag.
Mobster seems very inappropriate indeed.
Of the girls, the nun seems useable. her headgear is very useable for peasant women.
Though of the entire batch I'd say the cowgirl and the geologist are the very best simply because women are put in more action oriented roles here, but also because these clickies seem very well designed. If I collected cowboys I'd certainly want to have that one.

Yeah totally agree with you and with what Rhalis is saying about the Roman my first thought was cape but, just wepaons in gneeral would be great just to finish him, I almost had the same problem with the Police S.W.A.T. style guy in one of the previous series but, the I saw the virtually identical figure in the bigger set and I thought well I'm only going to want to buy one or the other so may a swell spend a bit more and get more for my money. Variaiton would be really good unfortunately Playmobil doess seem to like to go for the easy option and stick with the same old I mean why bother thinking up something new when you can just reuse and repackage something old maybe make a few little tweaks to interest people it;ll sell

Thank you so much for this great review. So informative and fun to read!
I agree the Woman with puppy looks like someone. The only one I could think of is Strawberry Shortcake. But it isn't a real spitting image.
I really love the cowgirl and the Balinese lady. The snake is gorgeous and thanks to it's shape easy to find!
-
Ah, you always get some great extra pieces, tahra! I look forward to seeing the details. ;)
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with a healthy supply of extras. One day when I've collected enough of the extra pieces I will put them together to see what I cons up with.
-
I especially liked those 'exploded' views you shared...I've often wondered what is under their neck covers or skirts(don't get me wrong, boys and girls!)...thanks once again, Tahra!

Really? Both among my favorites - though I'm not sure about his arms either - I mean, they're GREAT (duh, roman!), but not sure if for HIM.

RED roman capes. Out of stock AFAIK :( How is that even POSSIBLE!?
Personly I quite like that the neptune figure does not have a fish tail since thats so very limiting. As he is he can be used as some sort of forest spirit when given different accesoires.
I've never liked bare feet. Still don't. And we have more than enough :( And the color... SOOOO GORGEOUS and perfect. Then... meh. :wall: The biggest disappointment.
I agree the Woman with puppy looks like someone. The only one I could think of is Strawberry Shortcake. But it isn't a real spitting image.
Uhm.. not very familiar with her.. From googled pics, there is some resemblance, but like you said... not completely. But I'm still convinced the figure is meant to be someone...

Well, some are GREAT, others are a bit... like a bunch of left OR right spurs last time.. And half a suitcase this time.. Still, as long as there are no missing parts, right? ;)
I especially liked those 'exploded' views you shared...I've often wondered what is under their neck covers or skirts(don't get me wrong, boys and girls!)...thanks once again, Tahra!
I aim to please :P
I know I playmoblab a lot, but I do try to put things that I would be interested in.. If anyone is looking for any particular info/pics not provided, let me know, BEFORE I put everything away. After that it could take a while. :-[
(I always wonder what's under their skirts too!)

Remember I have such views for everything through series 6 at Animobil (http://animobil.info/shields/text/5d0863aa%28shields%29-915.html). Series 7 will be added when I have them in hand, though Tahra has done a great job of showing them here.

So, the kept ones - if not here, were either parts, or not kept... Had to decide to NOT keep them all. Specials and football is enough for that, me thinks.
Boys
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-boys-keep1.jpg)
Golden King - different arms and cuffs, and no swordbelt or the sword-that-does-not-fit... We liked him better like this.
Cook - the klicky was simplified, and became a doctor.
Skater - diaper HAD to go. I like him a lot.
Clown - different arms and hair..
Astronaut - just lost the watch.
Gangster - became a business man. The lack of lapels is a bit disturbing, but the beard helps.. We have none in black.
Robin Hood - replaced the dagger loop with a brown one
Diver - just got the astronaut's watch ;)
Sea Man - different cuffs and "hat". What a waste :hissyfit:
Girls
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/s7-girls-keep1.jpg)
Golden Queen - about original, just changed the feet (for high heels), since they can't be seen
Hippie - After a lot of trials, we gave up. And since we'd like to keep one of those ugly shoes.. There. Just changed the hair.
Purple Fairy - no longer. Predictably, she became romanish, with one of those big hairdos.
Rider - original (I shouldn't keep her (I believe we have too many already), but I like her :-[ )
Cowgirl - original
Bali Woman - original, with a male friend. We wanted to do that as soon as we saw the skirt for the first time :) My sister had the idea to use that head (from the snake charmer)
Nun - original, minus book (even knowing, I can't picture her with a red book). Tuck already offered her a mug, which means she was accepted in their order ;)
Geologist - minus jacket (it doesn't work), and allows a bit of variety with her male counterpart (different arms)
Jogger - my sister's take with that torso
Woman With Puppy - original - she likes her with those pants.
Ice Cream Vendor - original - though we might try something else. That skirt is more of a belt, and looks just.. wrong. Fine for a dancer or gymnast, a tennis player, a slave, or a.. "saloon lady".. not for your everyday thing.
-
Very nice. Love the Bali couple.
-
Good to see those detailed pictures of these figures.... I still detest the fact I can't see what I'm buying, but there are some nice klickys here which are "wants".
Your customs are better though :glasses:
-
I see I'm not the only one who thought the Bali skirt would look great on a guy. Where did you find the matching hair band?
-

Great minds think alike, right? ;D
Where did you find the matching hair band?
On the "hair bands/small crowns bag". :-[
Sorry ;) I THINK it was part of one of those "elvish" like greenish knights.. I ordered several as parts, cause they are very useful... and playmobil insists on that color.
-

And I already have a torso for him - just need to decide on hair and accessories.

Lol, it's no big deal. If I can't find it, I'm sure I can find something else that will work.

Or you can use a non-hat hair..

The problem is I don't know when I'll get the figures. If I join the US co-op again, they may come after I leave for France. If I don't, it may be difficult to get all the ones I want. :-\
I do think I want something on his head. I'm googling for traditional Bali costumes now, and it seems like a lot of them have headwear.
-
Oh hey, that's where the torso from your aztec lady came from: it's the bali woman from Figures 7!
Thank you for all of these pictures and explanations. I like the changes you guys made :)
@ Ismene: if you're planning on doing some Playmobil fairs in France or near the French border when you're there, then I wouldn't worry about not finding all the Figures you want. At those fairs, the Figures are for sale seperately, out of their bags, for a few euro's.
That's how I always get the Figures I like.

Oh right. I forget that not everywhere is a Playmo-desert like it is here. I could do the co-op (and deal with it when I get back) and buy a second Bali lady in France for the custom, since I'll want one original and one as a guy.
-
Thanks for the great review tahra. From that series I like more the female figures and especially the Bali Woman and the nun!
George. :)
-
I love the King, the Bali Women & the Purple Fairy who will become a very elegant evening gown dressed Lady for many Playmo customizers
Such a great gallery of characters !
Karim

The king looks a lot better this way, also a fan of the bali guy and purple fairy.
The doctor looks a bit like he is in his pyjamas though.
-
Now that they are here.... I'm a bit disappointed.
Some are not special at all; diver, jogger, cook, skater, astronaut, roman, cowgirl, fairy.... :'( :'( :'( Nothing new except some color changes and minor stuff.
On the other hand some are amazingly good!!
Weird there's nothing in between, like they are fantastic or they just stink.... :-[

I sort of have that same feeling about this group. :\

I see I'm not the only one who thought the Bali skirt would look great on a guy. Where did you find the matching hair band?
I'm pretty sure it (also?) came on an Egyptian - the woman in the tomb set (I forget what it's called - I think of it as desert dwelling - either Middle Eastern or Southwestern. You can't miss her - I think she is the only female in Egypt not done up as Cleo. ;)
-
Tahra, thanks for the detailed review complete with pics and snark!

YES, you're right! I completely forgot about those.... 4246 Egyptian House (or something).
-
Oh I had missed the Bali dude!!!! I LOVE HIM Tahra, fantastic!!!!! I must copy, sorry!!

I will tell my sister - who actually picked the parts - we had decided on a half naked guy as soon as we saw her... ;D
-
And conveniently, the last series had a male torso in that color. ;D

I think that was decided now - the skin color, I mean.. My sister figured to use that dark skinned head with the red thingie...
-
The snake charmer's torso works very well on the bali dress too! Unfortunately, no pics to prove :P

Didn't try that, I think... different greens.. someone REALLY loves greens (mostly "odd" ones) at playmobil...

I like the green trend better than the pink one.

Great review Tahra! Thanks for sharing your opinions as that makes it far more interesting reading!
5537+5538 Figures 7
This time, there isn't something that stands out before having them on hand (like the scot and the archer - or the cavewoman! - in previous series). Same goes for hair, which has been the brightest spot of many series.
I agree, the hair parts are not as exciting as they have been in other Fi?ures Series. In fact there are only four three new ones (five four including the green beard) all from existing molds:
1. Classic male in a new green (on Ethel, that's Ethel Merman ). I think both the hair and beard are a different shade of green from previous versions.
2. Long wavy in brown (new colour, as you said Tahra) on the Hippie.
3. Looped braid in brown (new colour, again as you said) also on the Hippie. EDIT: not new!
4. Long, twisted ponytail in dark pink (new colour) on woman with puppy.
I also agree that it's lazy of Geobra to churn out figures they have already released. And there is an expression in English "too many cooks spoil the broth" which they haven't heard of in Zirndorf!
-
Another edit:
That green hair isn't new either (used on clown 4760). So just two new hair parts and the green beard.
