Title: 5499 Small Shopping Center 5614 Policecar
Post by: Tiermann on July 23, 2014, 22:04:59
A smaller version of the shopping center, or maybe just a large shop. It was mentioned over at Klickywelt with this link to the instructions at Playmobil.de http://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/5499pdf.pdf?locale=de_DE (http://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/5499pdf.pdf?locale=de_DE)
From that it looks nice, if the price point is good it would be more tempting to me as it's a bit more compact but has the interesting features. Might be useful as a gift shop or restaurant. Assumption is that it's for the US market but I don't think any have been seen yet.

There is also a new police car out. It's 5614 at Playmobilusa http://www.playmobil.us/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=5614 (http://www.playmobil.us/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=5614) It's a more US muscle car prototype look than I've seen before. It looks pretty good.

Thanks Tim, the shop does look like it would be useful.  I like your idea of a restaurant.

Repainted it would make a nice city hall as well.

Thanks so much for the news and the pictures!
I was really hoping that the smaller shop would have more neutral colours (like they did with the inn), but no such luck.

I really like that police car. And I see some uses for that small shopping center

Thanks Tim for the links. I like the smaller shops for single stores it's just that the base seems like it will only be build-able one way. I agree the color does narrow down the uses.

The police car looks fun for high speed chases. It may even look good as a civilian car with a repaint

A shame they gave both cops painted on sunglasses and they excluded a girl cop.  :(

I really do not like that they are turning the police theme into a full boy theme with all the swat teams, rifles and bringing down the number of girl figures.. not a single girl swat member either.

Thanks Tiermann...

A shame it has to be pink..

What I found more surprising though.. is that a new System X tool?! :o

Yes Tahra, it's a new tool, we found it in our other new sets in the US. If its in the US the tool should be old news to Europeans

Looks like it is designed to remove System X connectors as well as to install them - and they say Playmobil isn't a building system!  ;)

The old tool removed them just fine. I found that I used to break the old one right where the metal tip ended inside the plastic but that was usually due to age. The new tool seems to have no metal anymore. Perhaps geobra wanted a less expensive option. I even think customizes will try to incorporate this new tool as a part.

This might be old news but I noticed other new items on the Playmobil US site, such as the red pickup truck $19.99, jet plane for just $29.99, and I think there was a least one more. I know pics of these sets were leaked a few months ago but the only place I've seen them for sale is on eBay before now.

How disappointing that the small shopping center is rather evidently directed at the girls, while the police car is also plainly intended for boys. I would purchase the shopping center if it wasn't plastered with pastel colours. I feel that Playmobil has lost a wide demographic appeal that they enjoyed with sets such as the Post Office and Supermarket, because both of which used a neutral colour palette and can be incorporated into a realistic city that can be enjoyed by both girls and boys.

A shame they gave both cops painted on sunglasses and they excluded a girl cop.  :(

I really do not like that they are turning the police theme into a full boy theme with all the swat teams, rifles and bringing down the number of girl figures.. not a single girl swat member either.

Very much agree with this point as well.

Has anybody gotten the police car 5614?

Doesn't it look chinese made? (like the ambulance and school bus before it, I mean)  :-\
