Title: Amusement Train 5549
Post by: leefert on May 30, 2014, 23:35:41
So today while I was at Toys R Us I picked up this cute little set.  I'm undecided on whether it was worth the $21.99 price tag, but with my nephew coming to visit tomorrow it was a set that he could easily play with and enjoy.

It's cute enough.  3 figures (a conductor, Mom, and Son).  Not time consuming to put together or sticker.  It does require assembly though (unlike most other wheeled sets that you can typically play with from the box).

thanks for the review of a neat set. We want it but $22 is a lot.

I am going to wait until they do another sale to get anymore of the amusement sets. They are all a bît pricey but I do think they are some of the better sets that PM has come out with in a while

Its a cute little set, but does seem priced a little high, especially compared to the concession stand. Probably the set I want least from the series.

Thank you for the review ;)

I really like the driver klicky - I mean, it is nice he has that shirt under his coat. And the boy's torso is really pretty too...

You can barely tell from the picture (and in real life) that the driver has glasses on his face.

Looking closely, I can just make them out.  They are the fine silver ones, the same as my avatar wears.

Thanks for the review!

It's a really cute set, and a good one for younger kids, since the klickies can be put in the cars without too much futzing.

I bought this set yesterday too and I'm quite pleased with it. Thanks for the review!

Probably the set I want least from the series.

Really? I plan to get at least one more and paint it in Jungle patterns for the zoo. I'd like it to have a couple more cars, so I'll wait and see if they have extra cars as an add-on and if not I'll have to buy an extra set I guess.

Won't they be available from DS individually?

That's what I was saying, I'm sure they probably will. But if not then I'll have to buy an extra train.

Us too, a train with 4 is what we are after. If we have to buy 2 train sets to make it we just need to figure what to do with the extra engine.

Maybe the extra engine could be used at a train station decoration or such, for kids to play in?

Nice idea. That made me also think of a neighborhood park  climbing toy perhaps or a grocery store 50 cent ride.

Good idea! Or in front of a store or the mall

Well it's proven to be easy for little hands. My nephew is having a blast running it around the Ferris wheel.

The National Railway Museum in York runs a roadtrain similar to this from the museum to York Minister in the city.

Well, you do have engines and fire engines outside shops kids can have a ride on, a sort of modern rocking horse idea.

If you were to get the train cars from Direct Service you would need:

Car:                   30 22 2130 (German DS 1.90 euros)
Seats (need 2): 30 22 2113 (0.30 euros ea)
Hitch:                 30 23 8380 (0.21 euros)
Axles (x 4):        30 28 4290 (0.25 euros each)
Wheels (x 4):     30 28 3360 (0.30 euros)
Tires (x 4):         30 82 0980  (says these are out of stock)

It seems like a nice enough set nice colurs and bright design and I like the boys bodywarmer but, as others have said it does seem rather expensive for what you're getting  :)

At the local toy shop, I paid €24 (about US$32, I think) for this.  Is it worth it?  Yes, it is to me - I want it for a specific scene, and I also wanted the woman klicky's curly hair, plus another black child.

It does look as if it should have at least one extra carriage, though, so I do hope that these will become available separately.

I thought I would just put it together and then put it away until the time came to use it.  Not so.  When I discovered that the child klicky as well as the adult sits so securely in the seat, I had to whizz the train round and round the table forever, making sharp turns and crazy serpentines - oh what fun!  And if it is fun for me, then I imagine that a child would love this too.

My 3 year old nephew LOVES it and was constantly changing the people in it

I was wondering if the smoke stack is removable? We have a few old trains that need smoke stacks and this could be used after a black coat of paint.
