Title: New DS catalog
Post by: Rasputin on April 29, 2014, 03:16:57
. I am quite upset about not only the scalping price for the farm house and the bell-less prison tower but for the reason why the bell support that has a functioning mold is not included. I understand about the metal bell and I even would not care if there was not even a plastic bell but just to not include the support is lame.

The other things are fine and we will get them, especially the tree and knights furniture.

Did anybody notice the western theme diorama? Its quite an odd story to me.

please pope, do your homework before you act.

From PCC,

"Remark:

This pdf version was actually not intended for the public before mid-May, but one of our German retailers obviously received and distributed the new catalogues in store before the official deadline. That's why scanned pictures of the new catalogue are already circulating in the world wide web.

PCC members were of course supposed to see the full catalogue first, so we are really sorry for that happening. For that reason the DS file/content is not marked as confidential. Feel free to share the pdf, pictures, or any other information about the upcoming DS assortment in your local forums and elsewhere in the internet."

I must say, the prices for the watchtower and the ranchhouse are seriously over the top.
Regarding the tower-almost 60 euro's for a balcony (the only even slightly "rare" part) is more than steep... 8}

I was really shocked at the price of the tower too!

It's not even a big building.. and it's "bare" - just the (incomplete) building. Even the farmhouse is expensive :(

I still think we should get it (or them), to support the steck releases... but we'll consider it, facing that price tag. We do have a couple of farmhouses, and the only thing we don't have in the tower are the signs/stickers, I believe.. Anyways, buying a couple of towers (a possibility before) is now out of the question.

As to the rest.... (I blab :-[)

I'm happy about the spotted piggies and the dark cowies , since we wanted more of those... Not sure if the cows are really new or not.. Tiermann? Same with the horsies - is any of them new? They all look familiar to me..

The alpine family is very nice (especially the males' legs!  ;) ), and I really like the guy with the "wool sweater" on the sports one.. but have the others...

The royal couple is very nice - especially her hair. Plans exist.

The 3+1 warriors are amazing! The green guys are gorgeous... Multiples wanted, me thinks.  ::)

The atm machine is a nice adition (and cheaper than I thought!)...

And I like the "heads" on the bike shop... also need to see if THAT hair is in new colors there.. though the set itself is not as interesting to us (and expensive!)

The magic tree was in the plans, before seeing the price tag.. Since we have everything there, I think I'll pass. The kids however are really nice, and have great legs! (are the skirts new?)

There are some real nice old sets there, too! It will be hard to resist some of them. And the vet (shame about the shoes) with colored puppies will be welcome!

I'm very disappointed with the price of the tower and the farm.
A few weeks ago I got the museum (40 euros) and I believe it has more rare parts like the arch, the roof and even the ladders! I think the price was very good! I don't understand why we have to pay 60 euros for the tower. Because of the balcony? And it doesn't has the bell! I'm not sure if I will buy it. The farm is also expensive!
There are a few other sets I like very much and I want them! My favorites are the codes 6413 and 6375!!

George.

Well I was planning on 4 towers at least originally, not anymore... the next question is if they will actually stock the balcony in DS parts department... my guess is no, at least not in the USA, but I could use 4 or 5 balconies...

My complaint aside though, from a $$$ standpoint this is a good move for the company, either they will sell all of them and prove that collectors are a viable market that will overpay fo sets, or collectors will back  at the price of reissued cherished old sets and buy some new ones they weren't planning on because they are a bargain by comparison... I wasn't even considering the new castle until now... but it can't cost more than 2-3 towers and has a lot more stuff.

Thanks for the link, Henry  :)

I'm still very happy about the re-release of the western farm house, because I can use all of the pieces to create various buildings that will fit in many different themes.

The tower is just too expensive for what it is and it's missing a crucial piece (I agree with Rasputin on the matter). Did the people who vote for this tower really mean for the set to be released the way it is right now?

The price of the magic tree made me cringe too: it's on E-bay for € 18 at this very moment, and that's including a gnome and other rare trinkets. I'll have to think about that...

I love the ATM, the propeller plane and the scaffolding.

By the way, is it just me or do the diorama's in the catalogue look extremely lame?

.. or collectors will back  at the price of reissued cherished old sets and buy some new ones they weren't planning on because they are a bargain by comparison...

Or the collectors will just buy second hand Playmobil instead. That's what I will do.

please pope, do your homework before you act.

I didn't know that then and it's not my obligation to know EVERYTHING. I might be Pope but Im not God.  ;). And that PCC remark was made AFTER I moved it,  ;)

It was a precaution move and if you see the boards the thread was moved back, so there's no need for this comment.

That's not necessary, Ras. This same quote from the PCC was shared in mod school and was why that topic was restored in a couple of hours yesterday. Gaston was posting from a device that he couldn't check the PCC from, so he moved it as a precaution and asked that one of us check. It's really not worth all this drama. It was not permanently deleted or anything, just out of sight for a little while until another mod came on and saw his request that one of us check. Since this type of topic has ALWAYS been confidential before at the PCC, it was only natural to assume they would be consistent.

Has anyone ever thought how difficult it must be for the mods to try to keep the PCC rules straight, not to mention trying to enforce them consistently?

Thank you Henry for the link, when I posted it for Jay it was inactive for non-pcc .

Hi bb and pope, The catalog has been on the 1st class forums for a while with no problems, we here post only a tiny comment about the catalog and it gets removed in minutes, and I am the problem? I think not. I did not see the pcc team "remark" until it was pointed out to me in the pcc. I really did not see it either due to senior moment or it being put up once I, as so many like to say "whined" I do not really care about that. Sorry if I hurt your feeling while you are doing your difficult job :sorrow: Why enforce the rule that the 1st class citizens do not have to follow, what's the point? its either a rule for everyone or no one.

As to the price of the tower and Farm house, I think Geobra was paying attention to the scalpers on auctions a bit too much. The saying about focusing on your enemy too much and you will become them seems to fit now. I will hold out on the purchase of one tower until it hits clearance. The farm house will be much harder to avoid. I really want at least 6 of them but 60e x 6 =  $500  :o ouch

I find the Queen quite attractive, I see a ice castle queen with those colors tones.

Are the chairs in the 6375 new? We do not have any. I sure wish there was a hooded falcon in there instead of a parrot. We have dozens of parrots (thinking of opening a Playmo fried parrot restaurant) but few falcons.

I'm not saying you're the problem, I'm just saying that Gaston isn't either, so that remark really wasn't called for. ;) Again, it really doesn't matter what goes on with other forums, we're only in charge of this one.

Some nice stuff there, though not really much for the medieval and pirate themes which I focus on.

Already have the original prison tower here even though its in poor condition.. If the rerelease was cheaper I'd get one since its incredibly usefull for parts to expand a castle.

I'll get one of that medieval furniture set though since its always handy to have some more benches and chairs. I don't have that many.
I'll get that tournament thingy with the chairs too since it seems usefull.. and will go well with the upcoming tournament knights which I plan to get. I think its their heraldry on there.

Seems the entire pirate theme is axed though, me no like.
Was hoping for some new releases there.

New animals this time are both of the bulls in the new cattle sets. The cows and calves were released in the Alpine theme but there weren't bulls with them.
Also new is the vulture with folded wings and yellow gripping feet. Previously that color vulture either had flat or gripping dark orange feet. That brings the number of vulture variations up to 10 I think. Very happy about these, and interesting to see the Great Dane puppy in the colors for the game this year. So that's 7 totally new animal variations in the add ons this year, higher than usual.

Really like seeing the ATM available. I was going to try to order the pieces from the shopping series and now wont have to.

Yes the farm and tower are pretty expensive. I happen to agree with them about the bell holder parts not being in the tower. Why include it and increase the cost even more when there isn't any bell and wont be? I know some collectors would like to have them, but would that justify adding an extra few Euros onto an already high price?

Why, because this was a collectors item not a main stream kid/parent item. They took out one of the important parts and now they are gouging the collectors. I think it will back fire, but we will lose in the end. Yes I would pay a few euros extra for the part to be included. I would even buy it at the scalping price Geobra has.

Say an animal set got re-released. Then a highly desirable animal was not included but could have been. Then the excuse was given that the animal was no longer common on TV so it was decided to not include it. But you can buy the re-released set at a high price and don't worry, you can just make one yourself.

I'm quite excited about a number of sets but adding them up is a bit scary what with DS prices climbing upward.   I'm going to have to priortize and try to guess which will make to to clearance.
9,49 euros - new Spotted Cows
 9,49          - new Brown Cows
8,99          - Traditional German Family (would love to get at least 2)
14,99         - 6375 - Royal Platform w/ seats
59,99         - Prison Tower (wish it came with the bell but understand, but not at this price)
 6,49          - new King & Queen
14,99         - 6413 - Guards & Watchpost
5,99          - LED Torches (but not sure how many - getting just one almost seems silly)
14,99         - Mammoth with young
2,49          - Green Wolf Knight Leader (want 3+ love that lace up top, although not for a knight...)
 7,49          - 3 Green Wolf Knights   (might want 2)
 6,99          - 2 Vultures
59,99         - Western Farmhouse
 4,99          - Porta-Potty
 4,99          - Bike with Trailer
18,99         - Bike shop interior
15,49         - Hotdog Stand
17,99         - Magic Tree (lots of cool accessories!)
 8,99          - 3 Fairy Children (might want 2)
 6,99          - 2 Swans
12,99         - Propeller Airplane

Total without multiples of anything is almost 300 euros or a little over $400  :omg:

I'm probably going to skip the prison tower - it just too much, maybe if it came with the bell.  I really don't think they should have re-released this set if they couldn't include the bell and neither to understand why they couldn't if they had really wanted to.  I just bought a marble run set from Haba (another German toy manufacturer that sells worldwide) that came with a little brass bell so I know toys CAN have them.  In addition I think there would have been much less support for the set if they had said on the PCC originally that they could not re-realease it with the bell.

I am still very excited about the farmhouse and will definitely get one.  Although the price makes me feel much better about the nearly mint and complete farmhouse I got on eBay for $100 about a week before they posted on the pcc site that it was going to be re-released.

They might lower the price of the prison tower if it does poorly.

40 euros would probably be an alright price for it, its just too much right now.

The truck is still there but the car looks to be out of the catalog. There were only ever the two molds. Maybe in a few years we can get them to bring back the car in black.

I think the little mini pizza theme must be doing well since they've added the pizza guy to the add-ons right after he left the regular assortment. It's a great little theme.

I'm not suprised - kids love pizza.  Even my son who won't eat pizza enjoys the idea of pizza.  Yesterday when I picked him up from pre-school he was working on building a pizza truck.

I must say that I'm very excited by some of these new releases!  :D I'm glad to see the Propeller Plane (7590) available after about a decade. The soldiers with guardhouse is a must have! Playmobil should release a few new re-releases of old specials per year like the new re-release of the old Tower Guard 4502 as 6400. I'm in love with the new Western Farmhouse as I've never had the original set before. The price would be on point if it had included the original figures.

If you look closely at the new Bike Shop add-on you will see long retired parts such as the yellow baby seat which was only available in the long-retired Blue Family Car 3739. The mannequin heads with bike helmets is a nice touch.

I will have to find the Western Schoolhouse because it's no longer available. Other items missing from the current lineup include the Water Tower, Green Oldtimer Car, Victorian Fencing, Victorian Guards, and most surprisingly the old Medieval House with Barn 7145. This has been one of the longest lasting add-ons available since the mid 1990s! The price was getting a little out of hand at around $60+.

That's a nice price on the Hafen-Cafe.  I've had my eye on that set for a while now but can't quite bring myself to get the $70 US campsite.  I just want the building coz it's so cute and perfect for a pretend set on a stage play.  That western farm looks mighty tempting as well.

Overall for me , its very interesting and welcomed that so many houses ( western for example) are in this catalog. I this this is great news. As for the tower, the price is indeed over the top, most parts are so easy to find/source and the sign aint that expensive. regardless still nice to see steck is back and with a vengeance

I really like so many new klickies and sets, for me the fantasy ones and the pine trees are great , will be getting ' quite a few more trees' to expand my forest as well as forest animals and this fab magic tree. all together , probably the best DS catalogue. Now , where are the nuremberg guards playmobil uhhmmm ????

I've had a bit more time to look over the selection in more detail. I really like the Medieval additions, particularly the non-figure ones like the tournament set and table set. The three figure packs are cool too, of course. Hopefully all of this implies that more tournament sets will be coming besides those heavily printed knights in the bags. ;) It makes me wonder why there is no pavilion or tents being offered though. Those would be awesome, and I've been hoping that they will be released again in some way.

The tower is great too, but what would really get me to buy some Steck would be one of those round towers. :D
