For the Quiz organised by my wife's school, I made a ten questions Playmobil round. One of the pictures I made was a closup of the Battle Of The Golden Spurs. This battle was fought on the 11th of July 1302, between a French knights army and a Flemish army mainly consisting of peasants, foot soldiers and a small fraction of knights. In normal conditions the strong french knights would have always won agains the Flemings but the Flemish army was setup behind a wide moat. Lots of the heavily armored knights couldn't manoeuvre on the swamp like field and in the moat and fell victim to the Flemish foot soldiers who disabled the knights with their 'goedendags' (a kind of mace, only a stick and a heavy pin, no chain as sometimes mistakenly thought).
I had to make this picture very quick so I hope to remake it soon with a lot more actors than just the few in the picture ;D

One more thing, I sew off the white and the black horses' legs to make the illusion that they slog through the water ;D

Looks great!!! :)

It looks awesome!!! Fantastic picture!!!
George. :)

Beautiful scene, love the sense of movement in your composition of the lances and horses smashing into the stationary Flemish side so there is that sense of opposition and conflict. Oh and yeah, that guy smashing somebody's head on the ground too  This is like Agincourt 1.0.
Can I ask what the moat is made of? My guess is the Playmobil lake recolored?

Where is Jan Breydel ? ;)

Wow, that's amazing!! You really captured the scene well.
I thought it was actual water, before I read your second post.
Now I'm curious about the other nine questions you did :)

Coudn't resist showing you the Flemish weapon of choice that day, the "Goedendag", which means "hello, have a nice day" in English... ;D

That's a very cool scene, well done ! :)9

Very nice pic, Ken! :)9

Will there also be a golden "Lion of Flanders" knight then, like in Conscience's novel about the battle and the movie based on it?
Where is Jan Breydel ? ;)
In a pub having a few beers with Pieter de Crem de Coninck?

:o The notorious horsebutcher of Belgium has finally revealed himself!
;D

So that's where those burgers came from... :)
Wonderful photo!

Awesome picture! :)

What a great pic. Beautiful! Can you share the others with us?

Well done!

Love the picture and the movement in it. I'd like to highlight your choice of heraldry for both sides, as people might not know how clever it is: fleur de lys for the French side was an obvious choice, but I like that you chose a variety of coats of arms among the PM gallery.
But most of all, the choice of the black lion on gold for the Flemish side is clever. People, it's almost exactly the coat of arms of Flanders! (The country, not Ned Flanders).
One thing though: you… cut off those poor horses legs???? :o

Great set up and picture! It would look good in a museum of 17th century painters. Well done.
I thought the horse was standing in porridge...
Looking forward for more and maybe you can tell us a little more about the beautiful sky.

Yes, the 30 years anniversary knight kan be used as the golden knight, no harm in adding the romantic touch, so the French army must be 60000 men strong :)

Definitely, one of Belgium's finest: Omer, Hopus, Chouffe, Westvleteren, Duvel, Tempelier, Karmeliet, Orval, Postel, Gouden Carolus, Kwak, Delirium Tremens, eh, won't list them all ;D

Thanks! I must admit your creations inspired me in taking a lot more care of medieval coats of arms, Arnaud. It still is one of those big projects on the shelf: customising armies but it's a lot of patient work.

Thank you! The moat is made from watersurface plates, transparent, the undergound is clay colored. The plates are about 60cm x 25cm, bought them in a modellbau shop in Germany but can't recall the product code anymore. Maybe Faller has them in their product catalog?

Ooooh, thank you! 8-) added to shopping list!
