Title: I Am Still Alive Aswell :)
Post by: Tim_w on March 07, 2007, 20:00:20
Hello  Everyone

Well i didn't think i would be writing one of these but i think i qualify now seeing as i have been away that long !! What can i say to fill you in without boring you all rigid ;D ? As some of you might have noticed i have still been popping by every now and then but i have been suffering from the modelers equivalent of 'writers block'. The good news is i am slowly motivating myself to start making things again :woohoo:. This means i have started work on those special items of fire service equipment i promised several friends a while back ( you know who you are  :)9  )

Since i last posted i have brought my first car which put a big hole in my Playmo budget and left me a little short on cash. Things are picking up again but to be honest there hasn't been anything on the Playmobil front that i have wanted to buy that has been released here 'yet '. My cousin and his family visited us from Australia just after Christmas and it was total chaos for a week but well worth it !! We were all sad to see them go but hopefully one day i will be able to visit them again. I am still working for the Council doing various odd jobs tidying up our streets which means you will see lots more Playmobil 'Council' vehicle customs in the near future. I am still mad on rescue vehicles of various different types so there will be plenty more story's and conversions on this front. If you hadn't allready guessed i am still waiting (very patiently hehehe) for the new Ambulance sets to be released !! When they arrive in the shops i will be adding a 'few' to my collection.

On a final note its good to be back, i love the new smilies  :yippee:!!

Kindest Regards  Tim

Hello  All

Thank you for all the warm welcomes back, it feels as though i havent even been away. My meeting with Gordon went very well indeed Richard, infact it is the second time we have met to share ideas over a cup of tea :). Unfortunatley we havent got any pictures of the meeting and i am a little bit camera shy, infact cameras dont really like me

Kindest Regards  Tim

You know what curiosity did to the cat, Richard! ;D  Seriously, though, I go down to Birmingham two or three times a year to run some training. It's a matter of down one, train the next and then home that evening.  Tim lives near Birmingham so if I can I travel down early the day before the training and look in on him for a couple of hours for a natter and a cuppa.  It's also a good way to drop off or collect stuff which is pricey to post such as books as I am paid expenses for the journey.

But, satisfaction brought him back, Gordon ... :P

Thanks for the explanation, Gordon. Sounds like you and Tim have some enjoyable times together.

All the best,
Richard

...for a natter and a cuppa.

A natter and a cuppa? Can you explain this phrase to us not familiar with your island slang? LOLOLOL

I'm guessing cuppa = tea of coffee, but what the heck is a natter?  :-\ :hmm:

You're almost right about cuppa, Dunc, it's a cup of tea.  I don't think I've ever heard the word used with coffee though, people tend to say "We had a natter and a coffee."

Natter is to talk generally moving from topic to topic, although the Concise Oxford Dictionary also suggests it means to grumble or to talk fretfully but I've never known it used in that sense.

Funnily enough, "cuppa" can now refer to either tea or coffee in Australia. We used it for both in my family and I've found several references in online dictionaries which support it. I read "a natter" to mean "a chat," because it's also fairly common slang back home. ;)

(I love talking about slang and other quirks of the English language, in case you hadn't guessed. ;D)

Unfortunatley we havent got any pictures of the meeting and i am a little bit camera shy, infact cameras dont really like me

That's a shame as I was rather curious too.  ;)

Thanks Gordon and Sylvia.  :)

You are quite right Sylvia, the english language is full of very interesting (and sometimes confusing) slang and quirks. What gets me is that most of the "rules" don't truly apply... ie: i before e except after c - what a falacy!!!! And so many words change pronounciation even though they use the same similar spellings or letter combinations (like roof and book). And of course the words with multiple meanings.

Must all be very consfusing to a non english or just learning speaker :o

Sorry to derail the thread, we can get it back on topic now  ;D

So, Tim, how is the weather?  :-[
