Title: Using experimental lighting...
Post by: AgeOwns on February 13, 2014, 20:32:21
I just posted this photo in the Custom's gallery, but I wanted to share how I took it.

Slash (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrstinkhead/12471394564/) by AgeOwns.com (http://www.flickr.com/people/mrstinkhead/), on Flickr

I used battery operated wreath lights for the stage lighting. Then I turned off all the lights. I set the camera to
Exposur: 6 seconds
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed   : 160

then I used a DIY Ice Light (http://petapixel.com/2013/04/09/make-a-cheap-diy-ice-light-using-an-led-flashlight-and-some-pvc-pipe/) (PVC pipe with a powerful LED flashlight) to gracefully light up specific areas. You wave it like a lightsabre.

Here is a pic of the set up

I also used the Ice light to light up this lunar scene.

I had a remote flash, aimed away from the scene, but about 18" away to give a strong light source from the left. I aimed it away so it wouldn't wash out. Then I used the ice light to lightly light from above and from the right. I played around a little until I got the right exposure.
Exposure: 6 seconds
Aperture:   f/8.0
Focal Length: 35mm
ISO Speed: 160

I also got this one
(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3719/12471396194_1e4843a1e2_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrstinkhead/12471396194/)

Same set-up, but I used the ice light to make sure the skull was lit alright.

And then the Slash pic was Playmobil pic of the day (https://twitter.com/playmobil/status/433516205224108032) yesterday! Hooray!

And I'll be covering the NY Toy Fair on Monday. You can follow @NonToxicR (http://twitter.com/nontoxicR) for pics and video.

Ok, I won't post this pic or twitter name in any more threads! I've just been away for so long, I'm excited

They're $12 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Republic-Galaxy-Quest-Rover/dp/B007LHV48M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392332231&sr=8-1&keywords=galaxy+quest+lunar+rover)

The astronaut that comes with it is absolute crap, but the contemporary playmobil astronauts look fantastic with it.

Very interesting work on lighting and photography as I consider lighting to be one of the most important components of a beautiful diorama of scene picture !

Just like for all pictures in general, there are a lot of hit and miss, but looking back at old pictures I often realize that what made them standing out was the lighting  ;)

All very nice photos the lighting makes for very nice photos as does the LEGO base and the stage lights, I particularly like the 3rd photo and the feel of the 1st one
