Title: Review 5490 & 5491
Post by: tonguello on January 26, 2014, 19:42:11
I haven't seen any reviews about these new items.
When they came out there was a lot of controversy about the "polly pocketish" air about them. In fact I was one of those who didn't like them. But looking at the 5490's box up close made want to try it.

I have to say I had a very pleasent surprise.

Here is the lady from 5490

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5930_zpscb8dd972.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5930_zpscb8dd972.jpg.html)

She is actually really cute, the dogs are the great Danes puppies from the collectible series of dogs, so nothing new. The purse is a new mold, (at least to me) and I haven't seen the double leash before, so there's a lot to discover in this tiny set, but the best thing is the dress itself.

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5931_zps8de4fa75.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5931_zps8de4fa75.jpg.html)

I thought these new dresses were rubbery (like the Romans toga or the "around the body" towel)  but no, they are made of normal hard plastic in two sections like the medieval and Victorian big fancy dresses

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5933_zps71a24e57.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5933_zps71a24e57.jpg.html)

Of course they are interchangeable. Here she is wearing the 5491 mini jean skirt and her dress went to the other lady.

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5934_zpsf5093af3.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5934_zpsf5093af3.jpg.html)(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5935_zps81e34b38.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5935_zps81e34b38.jpg.html)

Actually it is fun how many possibilities this brings and I can see why little girls would LOVE this theme, and I would be surprised if it's not a success!

Now the lady from 5491. Not much to say though.
I like the skirt though it looks like her waist is a little bit too high , the wristwatch is awesome (I have never seen that piece before) and the stroller is a new one I believe. It's weird looking but I guess it was inspired in a real one so ... well done! The purse mold is also new with holders for the belt (is that the word for that thing?)

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5938_zps1ec10611.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5938_zps1ec10611.jpg.html)

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5936_zps8ec6a4bc.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/review%205490%20y%205491/DSCF5936_zps8ec6a4bc.jpg.html)

I'm very happy with these purchases and I see the theme with other eyes now. I want some more!

Nice review, thank you. I'm still getting used to the women with the dresses you can take off, but I can certainly see why it would be appealing to kids.

Can you remove the maxi-cosy (the thing the baby is sitting in) from the frame so a clicky can just carry it around?

Your pictures look great and are very clear, tonguello. As I'm not really a fan of the modern themes, I wasn't interested in these new dress-up figures when they were announced, but they don't look that bad for modern theme collectors after seeing the details of how they work. It seems like they will offer a wide selection of clothing for this style of figure over time, so hopefully modern theme collectors will like them after all. It also seems that the figures aren't obligated to wear the new items either since there are no built-in parts of their design that require them to wear the clothes. Besides they look fine without them. ;D

yes Birdie, it's removable. :)

Well... I was not going to say it and probably it's wrong now,  :giggle: but picture the first one with white bunny tail and ears. Couldn't she pass for the old  Playboy bunny-waitresses, from the 50's?    8}

I like the full piece dress.  It looks pretty good.  I don't care for the denim skirt though.  It just looks too large.  I like the idea, but I just wish the skirt was a little more flush to the figure and not so bulged out.

yeah, I agree, the full one looks better on the clicky

Thank you for the review. Beatiful pictures!

I'm also a slow adapter but starting to like the new klickies more and more. I am postponing to buy them, but I guess I eventually will. I am a bit in doubt whether they make a good match together with older ones as visitors of my zoo.

The stroller I really like. It is indeed a modern one.

The stroller and the wristwatch are cool, but I don't really want a bunch of klickies that have to strip down to their undies/swimsuit to sit down.

thanks for the review but must say I'm not a fan of it. It looks a bit bulky over the clicky and seems to prevent them from sitting down.

Wasnt fond of those other clickies that can't sit by the way. Means they cant join in on many of the activities that other clickies are having.

I'm not much of a fan either - but as noted in the PROCESS, they do have potential... especially the ones without those ugly high heels.

I still think it quite... unplaymobilish. And have doubts about the durability.

Now that you mention it, it is too bad that this design doesn't let them sit. Even with the big dresses for the older figures, removing them allowed them to sit, and the figures still looked okay. Here, they don't really have much underneath. If they continue to use this design (which does look more human while still Playmobil-ish), it'd be cool if they made some more legs like in the 6272 Native American Add-On set. Obviously, that wouldn't work for dresses. :-\

Well for those big poofy older dresses it makes sense that they cant sit.. the design isnt helpfull for it after all. But when a clicky cant sit in a common skirt or dress its just silly.

Much better to just have more clickies as easy to take apart as figures or such to provide more customisation.

Thanks for the review and crisp pictures. I think these dresses have the exact opposit effect women want out of a dress, in my experience at least. I do not know about young girls and how they view things.  My boys might find it interesting to undress a klicky down to her underwear, but that seems odd in playmobil.

If you mean it makes klickys look like litte round barrels.. you're completely right!  :P

Ι don't like these figures, because they can't sit. They also don't look like playmobil. Can you photoshoot these figures without hair?Do they have differences in their heads? (for example can they change normal hair from old figures?)?Or  are there some logos from Geobra under their feet?

Heads and hairs are the same. The freaking arms are different - from male skinny klickys too (no, I'm not done with this subject!  >:( ) .

Thanks for the great review! Little girls (including myself) are definitely going to love these changeable clothes. I know a lot of people don't like them, but I'm quite excited about them. I can't wait to get some for my little  six year old niece-in-law (who loves playmobil now) to play with when she's at my house.

And I haven't read all the replies, someone may have said it already, but the stroller is a frame stroller. It's just a frame that you can set an infant seat onto to make a baby buggy. Easy to fold up and put in your trunk. http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=12574022&ab=BRU_Header:Utility3:Strollers:Frame-Strollers:Home-Page

Thanks for the review as you say there's some interesting pieces in there like the watch, handbag and my favourite the puppies not to mention that weird stroller. I can see why they would make this product as it certainly would appeal to a lot of young girls but, I've got to say it's just not something which really appeals to me at all the full dress looks better on the Klicky with the brown hair but, to me they both just look overly bulky  :-\ and of course as people have said they can't sit down

well... some clicky ladies haven't been able to sit down since the 90's.... all the "big dress" medieval ladies, princeses and victorian dames....
so it's the same, and grew to love those.  ;)

Yeah, but they're still fully dressed under those hoop skirts, so you have the choice between a big fancy dress for dancing and a simpler dress for dinner. Now, we'll have half-naked klickies sitting at the mall café.

Well, Gannicus, Saxa and Starbuck are quite enthusiastic about this change!  ;D
