Title: Rollerskates
Post by: GrahamB on November 01, 2013, 20:32:06
I have three loose roller skates (in-line skates, rollerblades), in black, purple and dark blue. I can't place the set which the dark blue one comes from- can anyone help?
Here they are:

Here are all the sets I could find with black rollerskates:

Two sets have blue rollerskates (looks a lot lighter than my one though):

Two Specials have silver rollerskates:

and one special has purple rollerskates:

Oh yes, thanks Erik. Mind you that second one (series 3 Mystery figure) has ice skates not roller skates (I made that mistake myself by buying one to get a spare set of rollerskates  :-[).

They were probably thinking the blade by itself would just get lost or they would have to create a whole boot to go on (which would be a good idea but would lead to a whole new revolution in how the figures are made but would probably never be done because of all the lost shoes and boots that parents would be complaining about ...).

... and those early clip-on ice skates that look more like crampons just don't 'fit' with the more modern styling of klickies.

But there is a tendency with PM towards the BLP style of plastic toys, e.g. some parts of the more recent castles. BLP means 'big lump of plastic' by the way (my wife and I coined this phrase when we were looking at some of those Wendy/Play House creations you see in Toysaurus- they are essentially large hunks of plastic with little charm or detail- and that figure skater mystery figure is in the same vein- albeit a SLP (small lump of plastic)  ;) ).

Anyway, back to the rollerskates...

I've never seen that dark blue one before either. The dark blue ones from set 4415 look a lighter shade of blue anyway.

Maybe it's just your picture, but the dark blue one looks similar to the purple one. Maybe the colour is just a bit off and it's actually a purple one?

I think that is the simplest and most likely explanation, Birdie. I just wondered if anyone knew of an obscure set with dark blue roller skates!
