Everyone has looked forward to this moment, but the day has finally arrived: today the grand tournament is held, to honour the newfound alliance between King Phillip and prince Edward the Lion.

Having heard from Roderick that Prince Edward may be involved in shady dealings and could possibly prepare for war, King Phillip hopes to get to know the prince a bit better during the tournament, and give his knights the chance to test the skill of the Lion knights in battle. A friendly way to get to know the strenghts of their new ally without arousing suspicion.

As with all tournaments, the king and queen sit in the middle of the royal stage. Prince Edward sits next to him so they can talk, and Baron Blacktower sits on the other side, just happy to enjoy the tournament and not worry about plots. Lady Blacktower wished to stand because she wants to be seen by the people. (she figures in case they get bored of watching battle, the people would never grow bored of watching her.)
The crown prince found a different spot to sit however, along with the other noble kids.

Protected by guards, they can safely view the tournament from the city walls.
Below them are the other nobles, curious about how their family, rivals and friends may do in the tournaments.

Elena managed to find herself a good spot to watch her brothers and their friends fight in the tournament, standing near the chair of her brother Cedric, the ruling champion.
And of course anyone is free to watch the tournament, many commoners are eager to see brave knights in action!

The heralds start blowing their trumpets to let everyone know the tournament is starting!

Under the sound of trumpets, Baron Blacktower's herald Pierre walks onto the tournament grounds to speak to the crowd.

Pierre: "A good morning everyone, how lovely of all of you to come here to the fabulous tournament our gracious king and queen will host today! The tournament is held in honour of the noble Prince Edward the Lion!"
Pierre continued: "The winner of the tournament will get the opportunity to fight against the undefeated champion, Sir Cedric the Swan knight!"
As he announced sir Cedric, he arrived on the tournament grounds and rides past Pierre as the crowd goes wild to cheer for their champion!

After riding past the crowd, Cedric dismounts to wave at the people, and two squires step forward to show the prizes to the crowd.

Pierre smiled as he continued: "Only if the winner of the tournament is brave enough he will take on Cedric, but either way he will still get this fabulous gold sword that has been decorated with many beautifull gems, truly the sword of champions! In addition to this, the winner will also receive five thousand gold pieces!"
He cheered before he went on: "Please note that the armory behind Cedric is for the competitors only. The squires there will do their best to help the competing knights in every way they can!"

Pierre: "Now, allow me to introduce the brave knights who are competing for these wonderfull prizes as they ride onto the field!
First, here we have King Phillip's very own knights! Sir Stephen and Sir Roderick! Both these dashing knights are here to defend their king's honour!"

This certainly was quite a large tournament, Roderick felt a bit nervous. So many people there, and he knew sir Stephen is good at jousting. He figured that at least the king's honour would be safe because of that, but still he hoped to be the one to impress King Phillip more. But he also hoped to impress the lovely lady Elena.
Pierre: "Following them, here are the Blacktower knights Sir Jory and Sir Frederick! don't their horses and flags look marvelous? I helped with the designs myself!"

Frederick enjoyed the praise of the people around him, but grumbled a bit about sir Jory being allowed to ride onto the field first. He'd surely show him who is the better blacktower knight!
Soon his attention was drawn to a friend he spotted in the crowd, it was Charles! Some time ago they fought together to protect the castle.
Charles smiled and waved at him: "Good Luck Frederick! you're going to need it for sure!"
Frederick smirked. "I'm sure I'll do just fine! why aren't you competing by the way?"

Charles: "Are you kidding me?! I'd stand no chance! the best jousting champions from the continent are here! they all are eager to see how they measure up to Sir Cedric! Many of them have won at least three tournaments!
No, I am just here to cheer for the grandmaster of my order! but I'll cheer for you, Roderick and Henry too of course!"
Next to Charles stood a crusader from distant lands, while a stranger here he's known back home as Sir Pynedor, a brave and chivalrous knight with his own castle and many teutonic knights under his command. Charles invited him here to watch the grand tournament together, and ask for advice on how to expand the crusader forces here.
Frederick had moved on while considering Charles his words. He never really considered to check the lists to see who else was competing.
In the meanwhile, the competitors keep entering the field, and Pierre keeps announcing them: "Here comes sir Henry the swan knight, younger brother of Cedric! Will he be just as dazzling as his brother in the tournament? Today we will find out and see!"

Henry felt a bit pressured, he hoped to do his best at the tournament but wished to be judged by his own merit instead of getting compared to his brother the living legend.
He was happy to have his horse Hector with him though, even while he refuses to wear barding. A stubborn horse, but very loyal. Hector doesnt allow anyone else but Henry to ride on his back.
Pierre: "And here we have the three brave Lion knights of Prince Edward! Brave as lions no doubt, ready to defend the honour of their great prince!
Sir John, Sir William and Sir Elric!"

While not very well known and not really any noticable names in tournaments, the Lion knights seemed to have a good chance since they appear to be the only faction represented by three knights.

The crowd already started cheering when seeing the next competitor arrive on the field.
Pierre: "I am sure many people may have recognized him already! here is the marvelous sir Constantine, winner of ten tournaments and bastion of chivalry!"

The knight in his shiny golden armor smiled to the crowd as he was riding past them, clearly a fan favorite.
Pierre: "And here comes sir Gareth Boulaise, another reknown champion! he has won three tournaments already, will this be the fourth?"

Despite looking a bit rough with his unshaven face, he still smiled to the crowd. But he sure looked like someone who has seen battle.
Pierre: "Here comes Sir Jacques de ridefort, Grandmaster of the templars. Chivalrous crusader and bold adventurer known for his wisdom."

He sure looked impressive, this old veteran. He's seen much of the world, and probably knows quite a few moves. Charles certainly seems to think he has a good chance of winning!
Pierre: "And here we have Sir Roland, a new face at the tournaments but I have heard he is a most dashing and very brave young knight!"

With a friendly smile, Roland seemed just as exited as Roderick, Henry and Frederick about the tournament. A chance to prove themselves against the more experienced knights!
Pierre took a step back somewhat intimidated as the next two knights arrived on the field.
"H..Here are the two knights of King Miguel the Falcon. First, the new champion of the falcons, Sir Hugo who seems to have made a.. huge impact on the tournaments in his own country.. he is followed by Fernando, King Miguel's nephew."

They already where familiar with Fernando, he once competed in the same tournament as Henry.
But Hugo was only heard about through rumors. A very agressive knight who recently made a name in the tournaments, but not through fair play.

Pierre continued with his usual bright smile after the intimidating knight has passed by.
"And here we have sir Godfrey, stunning in marvelous purple as usual! doesn't he look fierce?"

Godfrey seemed rather silent, not much seems known about him. His armor seems impressive though!
Pierre: "Here we have another new face, Lord Silvermane! Will he shine as brightly in the tournament as his beautifull silver armor is shining in the sun?"

While not too wel known, Henry surely remembered him. He fought a fierce battle against him in the last tournament he entered, defeating him just barely.
Thats not all he and also Roderick and Frederick remember though. Lord Silvermane was fighting rather dirty in that tournament.
Pierre: "And here comes Duke Alymere, in glorious green! He won a tournament not long ago, and is here to repeat that succes!"

The large man smiled friendly enough to the crowd, while not the youngest anymore he sure looked like he would hold his own in battle.
Pierre: "And last but not least, here is Sir Christopher! reknown jousting champion known for his charity work. Will this be another victory for him?"

Sir Christopher certainly looked well equipped for the tournament, although he seemed to be the only one aside Frederick to go with an open face helmet. (though Frederick's choice for this was that he wanted the people to recognize him.)
Now that everyone had arrived on the field, the trumpets where heard again. In a moment, Pierre would go over the rules again.

Who shall be the winner of this grand tournament? What surprises where laying ahead of the three friends? Will they learn more about prince Edward?
It was going to be a long day indeed, but a very memorable day for certain..

I have been waiting for this, Rhalius! Great presentation of the champions.. I see a beautiful set up, I can almost hear the excitement of the audience and feel the tension of the competitors. Epic start of this tournament!! :rock: Rock on!

The crowd watches in awe at all the knights, they heard a lot about most of them, but are curious about the unfamiliar ones as well. This sure was going to be an exiting day!

Pierre smiled and waved at the knights, before he contined to speak:
"Welcome, marvelous competitors! King Phillip, Baron Blacktower and Prince Edward the Lion have chosen together who will fight against who in the first round!
They matched you up based on your own experiences and preferences.
Each duel is to begin on horseback with a jousting lance, after the initial charge the combatants may continue with other weapons. You need to defeat your opponent to win. Exessive force is discouraged, this is a friendly tournament after all. Unsportive behaviour will mean disqualification.
If your opponent surrenders, cease your attacks immediatly.
Many squires stand ready to hand you any weaponry you wish for during the duels."
After going over the list, Pierre lets it be known who are matched up for the first round, and the order in which they will fight.
Sir Jory - Sir Elric.
Sir Fernando - Sir Roland.
Sir Christopher - Sir Frederick.
Sir Jaqcues - Sir Hugo.
Sir Gareth - Sir Constantine.
Sir Roderick - Duke Alymere.
Sir Godfrey - Sir William.
Sir Henry - Lord Silvermane.
Sir John - Sir Stephen.
With lowered voices, the three friends spoke to each other as they heard about who they'd be fighting.

Roderick: "Looks like you'll get to fight Lord Silvermane again Henry. We already know you can beat him."
Henry: "Looks like I have it easy in the first round yes, last time I faced him it was a three way battle with Heinrich Drachenfell. Now its only Silvermane."
Frederick: "You got lucky, but me and Roderick might be up against some tough competition! I just spoke to charles, he said some of the best knights are here because they want to see if they can defeat Cedric! we already know that none of us can do that!"
Roderick: "We trained very hard though, and I dont think anyone can take on Cedric. He's a whole different league. There's a reason he's not competing anymore in the tournament. Everyone knows he wins any competition he enters."
Henry: "You are right about that, I'm sure we will do fine. We had the benefit of being trained by Cedric after all."
Frederick: "True, I gues Charles just worries too much.. we can win this! To think he wouldnt compete because he thought the competition would be too tough. Maybe he was just refering to us!" Frederick chuckled, feeling very confident again now he had talked with his friends.
Pierre: "That's all I have to say, please clear the field for Sir Jory and Sir Elric, who will be opening the tournament in the first match!"

As everyone leaves the field, the heralds blow their trumpets once more to indicate the beginning of the tournament.
This gives King Phillip a moment to speak with Prince Edward.

King Phillip: "Your knights seem impressive, Sir Edward. Where are they from? I don't think I saw them during your father's reign."
Prince Edward: "After our kingdom was conquered and my father was captured, only a handfull of my own personal guards and a single royal guard remained.
I recruited these noble knights and many soldiers recently to my cause. They want to see my father free just as much as me."
King Phillip: "I don't think I heard about who is holding your father captive? Perhaps I can help you to free him?"
Prince Edward: "I am still working to find out where and who is holding him captive. Let's focus on this grand tournament you organised for now, it seems Sir Elric is ready to face the blacktower knight."
And Sir Elric and Sir Jory seem indeed ready to fight each other, since the tournament is hosted in honour of the new alliance, it seemed fitting to open it with a knight of each side facing each other in a friendly duel. Sir Elric also expressed the desire to use a shorter jousting lance, and Sir Jory is profficient with this.

As the battle starts with a joust, the three friends are watching the fight with interest. Along with the other competitors.

Roderick: "I'm curious how Sir Jory will do, I heard he won quite some tournaments before he arrived at the castle."
Frederick: "Well as you can see, he's clearly losing! to be honest, I don't know why Baron Blacktower even entered him into the tournament as well, surely I'm good enough to represent the blacktower honour on my own! He'll just make us look bad!"
Henry: "I don't know, the way he knocked that Lion Knight off his horse looks pretty good to me! he seems too dazed to get back up."

Frederick: "erhm.. yes.. well... alright.. I gues he can hold his own then.." Frederick muttered a bit, clearly not wanting to be outdone by sir Jory.

Next up are Fernando the Falcon and Sir Roland.
Both wished to fight with a short lance as well, Fernando because he finds it easier, and Roland is still learning to joust with the larger standard jousting lance.

Before stepping onto his horse, Sir Fernando drains his mug of ale and then exchanges the empty mug for his lance. He had quite a few mugs already.
Hence why no one is too surprised that Sir Roland unhorses the somewhat drunk Fernando without much effort!

Roland dismounts to continue the fight in melee, but when he approaches Fernando on foot, he can hear him snore!

Appearantly his drinking had not helped him at all, Fernando lays passed out on the ground and needs to be dragged off the field. Sir Roland wins.
Henry: "He was drinking too much at the last tournament too, drinking and riding a horse certainly don't go well together."

The dark knight Sir Hugo turned to the side, clearly angered by Frederick's remark: "You better hope you are knocked out of this tournament before you have to fight me, I'll crush you, and then you will see the power of the falcons!"
Feeling a bit intimidated and not wishing to anger Sir Hugo further, the three friends remained silent, and Frederick made his way to the field along with Sir Christopher.

Frederick glanced at his side a moment, at Sir Fernando who got dragged off the field. Still asleep. He couldnt help but chuckle at the funny sight.
Roland spoke to them briefly as he passed by to find a place at the side: "Good luck you two, give us a good match to watch!"
Frederick got on his horse and was ready to fight Sir Christopher. They where matched together because both have chosen to fight with an open face helmet.
He might have won various tournaments, but Frederick is confident he will stop him from winning this one!

As they hear the trumpets, both charge forward with a firm grip on their lance.
It seems it's a tougher match than Frederick thought! the clever sir Christopher keeps his shield up high, and avoids getting his while he manages to get past Frederick's shield and hits him against his shoulder! A good thing his armor catched most of the blow, but it still stings!

Deciding to drop the lances and switch to swords, Frederick and Christopher to their best to get past each other's defence with little succes.

After dismounting, Christopher charges towards Frederick!

But Frederick manages to keep his defence up against this attack, and manages to push Christopher back and down to the ground.

Seeing he almost defeated him, he pressed the attack to try and disarm Christopher while having the advantage.
But as he's trying to hit Christopher's shield away, Christopher raises his sword up past Frederick's defence, forcing Frederick to surrender!

Frederick nodded a bit, still surprised at his own defeat. He really thought he was going to win.
As Frederick gathers his sword and Christopher greets the crowd that cheers for him, Charles smiles knowingly to Frederick.

Charles: "I told you the very best have come to fight in this tournament."
Frederick grumbled a bit. "I almost defeated him! I could have won!"
Charles: "You did good, it was a great battle to watch. The best duel so far."
Encouraged by the praise, but still somewhat disenchanted by his early elimination, Frederick returns to his friends.

Henry: "He seemed to hit your shoulder hard, I gues that may have given him an edge?"
Frederick: "My shoulder? oh erhm.. yes thats it!" He rubbed his shoulder as if it was hurting badly while he was just fine. "Ow ow, if it was not for my shoulder I'd have won yes..."
Cedric smirked, obviously seeing Frederick isnt really hurt at all. (exept in his pride) "Aside from your obviously crippling injuries, you did seem to fight well. Better than I thought you would do. Sir Christopher has won quite some tournaments. He's a very nice guy too."
Elena smiled. "You looked very impressive Frederick."

"Bring me my Axe! now!" Hugo screamed angry towards his squire, who hurried to the armory to retrieve it.
Wasting no time, Hugo rushed toward Jacques with drawn sword to attack him, not even waiting for him to dismount.

Jacques barely manages to draw his sword in time to fend off Hugo's powerfull strikes.
Growing even angrier by Jacques defence against his attacks, Hugo throws his shield at him and manages to knock Jacques off his horse!

In the meanwhile his squire brings him his axe and hands it to him. Hugo throws his sword aside and grabs the axe.
Wasting no time, he continues battering down on the floored Jacques without mercy, angrily slashing with his axe at him. Jacques barely manages to avoid his attacks while the squire quickly takes the horse with him to make sure it wont get hurt.

King Phillip takes note of this agression and stands up, raising his voice: "that's enough! Sir Hugo! stop this madness!"
Hugo doesn't listen however, and continues striking blindly at Jacques untill he manages to hit his sword from his hands.

Jacques trembles with fear as he sees Hugo raise his axe: "I surrender! I surrender! please stop!"
Not one to stand idly by while his friend and grandmaster is in danger, Charles rushes to his aid, followed right away by Sir Pynedor.
Charles: "Put that axe down or you will have to deal with us!"
After taking a good look at the crusaders standing at his side, Hugo lowers his axe and seems to calm down.

Quickly Charles rushes towards his fallen friend to help him back up, Jacques is still trembling.
Feeling the piercing gaze of Sir Pynador on him, Hugo turns around to walk back to the other knights.
Will Sir Hugo be disqualified for this? How will Roderick and Henry do in their battles? the answers to this will come soon.

King Phillip: "You walked a fine line here sir Hugo, your agression was uncalled for. But since you ceased your attack before Sir Jacques de Ridefort was hurt by your agression, you will not be disqualified. Just know that we will be keeping a close eye on your actions."
Prince Edward added: "I agree, what will the people think? If not even knights are being chivalrous, who will be?"
Hugo grumbled as he bowed slightly towards the king and prince in recognition of their words, before continueing on his way.
While Sir Constantine and Sir Gareth Boulaise walk onto the field, Hugo sits down and is greeted by his friend Fernando, who does not seem to have truly catched what was going on.

Fernando cheered and raised his mug: "Another victory for the falcons! you're the best Hugo! Almost as good as the ale they have here.."
As he finished his words he looked at his mug and quickly drank the rest of its content and gestured to a squire to get him a new mug.
Hugo grumbled. "You really should not drink this much, we cannot show any weakness in front of other nations."
Fernando smiled. "hey, you just take on their knights, and I'll take on their ale supplies! I'll make short work of any ale they put in front of me!"
And that he did, if it where a drinking competition Sir Fernando could have been champion. Unfortunatly for him, it's a knight's tournament.
As he kept drinking, the tournament went on, and everyone was eager to see which of these two tournament champions would win: Sir Constantine or Sir Gareth Boulaise.

Both charged at each other, their clash could barely be heard over the cheering crowd!
As our three friends watch the tournament, Roderick feels someone tapping on his shoulder, and he turns to see who it is.

It's Duke Alymere, his opponent.
Duke Alymere: "Hey there buddy, I just want to let you know you don't need to worry about me snapping like the fellow from that last duel. We are all friends here, and I see you are still quite new to this. Let's just give it our very best, and we'll see wich of us wins!"
Roderick: "That's good to know! I must admit that sir Hugo made me a little nervous."
Duke Alymere smiled: "I am sure you'll do fine! I hear we have you to thank for this tournament anyways, if it werent for you there wouldnt have been an alliance."
Roderick considered this. "I haven't thought of it that way yet! Let's watch the fight at hand though, I'm pretty sure sir Gareth will win!"
It did indeed look like Sir Gareth was winning, he was pushing back Sir Constantine's sword, close to disarming him as he pressed on!

But with a feint attack, Sir Constantine pulled his sword back, managed to get past Gareth's sword and knocked him hard against his helmet, knocking it off!

Gareth: "Well fought, you certainly got better since last time!"
Constantine smiled. "The way you knocked me off my horse in the last tournament showed me I needed to train even harder. I look forward to the next time we fight."

There certainly wasn't any lack of encouragement for Roderick, as he got on his horse and was ready for the joust.

And there they go! Roderick was quite fast on horseback, and managed to hit Duke Alymere against his arm, throwing him off balance and causing him to miss Roderick completely!

With roderick's lance shattered, they decide to switch weapons. Roderick draws his sword while a squire brings Duke Alymere his mace.

Duke Alymere seems to be quite a strong man, dealing out heavy blows against Roderick's sword, and he does his best to fend them off and get past his defence.
But alas, Roderick gets knocked off his horse by a powerfull blow!

He seems to be just fine, not really hurt by the fall.
But will he be able to step up to the challenge, and defeat the more experienced Duke Alymere? Or will it be up to Henry to fight past the first round of duels?

Oh great battle scenes some brilliant action pity Fredrick got knocked out although perhaps he will be able to learn more from it in the long run. I would certainly have disqualified Sir Hugo for that behaviour shocking, here's hopign Roderick can win his round :knight: keep up the action :)

While the Duke is strong, he is also slow, allowing Roderick who can be quite fast manages to push him down to the ground.

Frederick and Henry cheered, not really having anything to say about the fight though, but they where happy for Roderick.
Next up are Sir William and Sir Godfrey, the three friends where curious to see how well this Lion Knight would fight.

Lord Silvermane remained silent as he moved to retrieve his horse.
Cedric helped Henry on his horse, hoping to give him a last bit of advice before the fight.

Henry: "I fought him before, I'll be ready for him. Thanks though, I appreciate the advice."
Lord Silvermane seemed ready, his silver armor shining brightly in the sunlight.

Henry braced himself and was ready for the charge. He expected a calculated move from Silvermane, but much to his surprise he charges forward at an incredible speed!

He is coming in so fast that he is sacrificing aim and balance for speed, rushing forward, giving Henry little time to brace for impact as he gets knocked off his horse from the impact when Lord Silvermane's lance shatters against his chest!

Having Henry pinned down with his sword, he wants to force him to surrender.
Silvermane did not consider Hector however, who is fiercely loyal to Henry and gallops over Silvermane!

This gives Henry time to get back up, and Cedric is quick to pull Hector away by his reigns so Silvermane does not strike at him in anger.
Back on his feet, the duel now begins in earnest. Silvermane fights agressively and is really pressing the attack, but Henry is not intimidated by this.

By focusing his attack and waiting for an opening between Silvermane's agressive attacks, Henry manages to overpower him and push him down, aiming his sword at him as he is defenceless to get him to surrender.

But Henry neglected to keep an eye on Silvermane's feet! Silvermane tackled Henry with his feet, and the fight continues yet again!

Now the tables are turned, Silvermane manages to get back on his feet and press down on Henry's defence while trying to disarm him with his free hand.

Elena tried to cheer her brother on still: "Come on Henry, you can do it!"
But it did not stop Silvermane from disarming Henry, and forcing him to surrender.

Silvermane: "Just as I thought, you just got lucky last time. If this was not a tournament, you would be dead now. Instead, you will have to live in my shadow, just like you live in your brother's shadow. Fear me."
After saying his piece, Lord Silvermane stood up and walked away. Henry was left there, feeling rather embarassed about his defeat.
He got back up and returned to his friends and family, not really feeling too good about himself right now.

Roderick: "That was a dirty trick he pulled on you!Is it even allowed to just jump on top of someone like that from your horse?!"
Frederick: "hes, he should be disqualified for that!" Both Roderick and Frederick where quite angry about this whole thing, it seemed so unfair.
Cedric gestured for them to calm down. "It is an unusual strategy, but its better to encounter it here than on the battlefield. Its a good preperation. In a tournament it is not about winning and losing, it is about learning from your mistakes. Next time you get knocked off your horse, you will be prepared for such a follow up attack."
Elena: "You still recovered well, you almost had him!"
Henry still didnt feel much better though. "Yes, almost.. seems even my own horse did better at this tournament than me."
As everyone did their best to cheer up Henry, the tournament continued with the last match up of the first round.

Moving off the stage, Queen Dominique stands before the knights and looks at them with a kind smile. Henry and Frederick smiled back at her, knowing the queen quite well.

Queen Dominique: "Knights, gentlemen, duelists.. we have greatly enjoyed watching your battles, and I look forward to seeing all of you again in future tournaments. Please stay to watch this one however, all competitors are guests of honour today. After the tournament there will be a grand banquet."
Queen Dominique then approached Sir Jacques de Ridefort.

Queen Dominique: "It is tradition that one of the knights who did not make it past the first round is invited on the stage, to watch the rest of the tournament with us. I'd like to as you, grandmaster Jacques de Ridefort of the templars, to join us. It would be an honour."
Sir Jacques smiled and bowed politely to the queen. "You honour me your highness, I'll gladly join you."
Henry and Frederick werent hurt about not being asked for this honour, they got to speak with the king and queen every day. And considering what happened to Sir Jacques earlier, they thought he deserved it a lot more than them.
When the knights move off the field, and the winners of the first round are moving to stand in front of the king, it seems that Lord Silvermane is missing.

When given word that he left, he turned back to the knights in front of him.
"It seems that Lord Silvermane has forfeited his place in the second round, which leaves us with only eight knights remaining."

King Phillip: "Brave knights, you all proven yourself against some great competitors and I congratulate you all for this."

King Phillip smiled as he heard the crowd cheer in response, waiting a moment for them to calm down before he continues.
"Please take a moment to rest while I will deliberate with prince Edward, Queen Dominique and baron Blacktower on who will be facing who in the next round."
As everyone heads off to the field during this break, Roderick is quick to move to his friends, and try and get a bit of advice from Cedric.

Cedric smiled. "That depends on who you will be facing. If it is Sir Christopher, don't underestimate him when he is down. Sir William seems to be an exellent horseman, Sir Constantine seems to do flashy moves to please the crowd, and if you face Sir Hugo, don't be intimidated by his agression.. stay calm. I can't say much about Sir Roland since I never saw him fight before, and there was not much of a duel with Fernando earlier. And you have seen Stephen and Jory train just as much as I have, so I don't need to tell you about them."
Frederick: "Wait, there's a chance he has to fight Stephen or Jory?"
Cedric smiled. "Yes, it is possible. It's actually something many people love to see."
Henry: "It would be better than facing that Hugo.. he seems dangerous."
And as they keep discussing the possibilities, the other knights make the most of the break as well.

Stephen: "They sure did, there is no shame in losing to a veteran such as Sir Christopher, and that Lord Silvermane just seemed too agressive."
And the other knights are talking amongst each other as well, exchanging strategies, instructing squires and in Fernando's case, drinking.

After Fernando was taken down so easily, they where eager to see what Roland would do against a strong competitor.
But as Roland and Christopher move onto the field to start their battle, they are being watched from behind one of the windows.

Hugo jumped up from his seat quite eager for battle, cheered on by his friend Fernando. "You can do it Hugo! I'll just stay here and drink ale in your honour!"
Roderick was looking at Hugo wearily, he was very much hoping he would not have to fight against him.
Baron Blacktower continued, seemingly creating suspense on purpose: "Against Sir Constantine!"

Sir Constantine moved forward, with a smile on his face. "Try not to lose your temper this time, buddy."
Hugo: "I am not your buddy."
While Prince Edward had proposed that Hugo should fight Roderick, the rest did not agree. Sir Jacques proposed to pit Hugo against the most experienced jousting champion present.
While both knights get on their horses, Hugo's squire is already standing ready at the side.

They charge at each other with great speed! Constantine manages to deflect Hugo's lance with his shield, his own splintering against Hugo's chest.

As many predicted, this just angers Hugo and he is quick to draw his sword and turn around to attack Constantine straight away.

Constantine was prepared however, and drew his sword as soon as his lance shattered, ready to meet Hugo in battle.
Finding the fight on horseback too restrictive, Hugo dismounts and Constantine does the same.

Quickly Hugo moves to his squire, who hands him not one but two large menacing axes!
With both axes in hand, he charges towards Constantine, swinging his axes around wildly!

Constantine remains calm even while an audible gasp can be heard coming from the audience. Constantine steps back while deflecting the attacks, using his shield for cover.
As Hugo is swinging his axes wildly, it leaves him unbalanced. When he brings down both axes on Constantine, he merely steps aside and is quick to put his sword against Hugo's neck.

Constantine: "Shouldn't have lost your temper, buddy."
Reluctantly, Hugo is forced to surrender the fight. The crowd cheers for Constantine! pretty much everyone wanted him to win after what Hugo did in his last match.
But it seems Hugo is a very sore loser. As Constantine moves back to the side, Hugo picks up his axe and comes running after him!

King Phillip raises his voice to try and warn Constantine, but his voice can't be heard over the roaring crowd.
Henry is quick to move forward to try and warn Constantine of the danger, but his voice can't be heard as he tries to tell him to turn around.
Will anyone stop Hugo from attacking the unsuspecting Constantine in the back?

As Hugo is about to hit Constantine in his back with the axe, Henry draws his sword and runs forward to push Constantine aside. The axe misses him by a few inches, and Henry is quick to deflect the second strike with his sword.

Noticing Hugo just growing angrier from this, Frederick and Roderick are quick to draw swords to come and help their friend!
Cedric had jumped up as well, and helps the confused Constantine back on his feet.
Hugo overpowers Henry, pushing him down to the ground while drawing his sword as well. "You should have stayed out of the way!"

The captain of the guard, several soldiers as well and Constantine and Cedric now surround Hugo and are quick to subdue him.
Cedric spoke seriously: "Everyone back to your posts, I will escort Sir Hugo to jail where he will await judgement."

King Phillip seemed quite angry at Hugo, and hes really not someone quick to anger: "Sir Hugo! you are disqualified from the competition and will be put on trial for attempted murder!"
Hugo grumbled as he was taken to jail at sword point, kicking and screaming but Cedric seemed more than capable of keeping him subdued on his own.
As the crowd murmurs about this turn of events and it takes a moment for things to settle back down, Constantine approaches Henry, seeming to be quite calm despite the danger he was in a moment ago.

Constantine smiled at Henry: "It seems I owe you my life, It was very brave of you to step in like that. Even while I am a stranger to you. And your friends did their part as well. The three of you might not be jousting champions, but thats all just a game.. Being able to take action when it really matters, thats what's important. If you ever need my help, don't hesitate to ask."
Henry was still catching his breath somewhat, smiling at Constantine: "We just need to watch each other's back, right?"
Roderick: "We can't just stand by when people get hurt."
Frederick: "When nice people get hurt at least.. don't think I'd feel the need to step in if Hugo, Silvermane or the dread baron get hurt.."
Constantine smiled: "Well whatever the reason was, you have my thanks."
While the tournament is about to resume, the conspirators have followed everything thats going on.

Halgar: "Looks like an attempted murder was foiled by three young knights, and the golden Swan Knight is escorting the lad to jail.. we should ambush him in the backalleys, his prisoner might help us!"
Ranulf: "Patience Halgar.. we stick to the plan.. We need to strike at the right moment, and we can't involve outsiders in our plans either."
The Shadow: "When the shadow is hired to strike in broad daylight, the shadow will not tolerate any last minute changes to the plan."

Roderick was quite happy that he wouldnt have to fight against Stephen or Jory, he wanted to test himself against one of the Lion knights.
They charge at each other with great speed, as they clash William's lance shatters against Roderick's shield, the force of the impact causes him to raise his own lance slightly, hitting William against the head instead of against his chest!

While slightly shaken from the impact, Sir William seems fine and draws his sword while moving around the fence.

While Roderick remembers Cedric's advice about William being a great fighter on horseback, that doesnt help to make himself a better fighter on horseback.
Sir William hits Roderick against the head with the hilt of his sword, knocking him out of the saddle!

Sir William gives an understanding nod to Roderick before lowering his visor and raising his sword and shield. Roderick raises his sword and they continue their fight.

Roderick seems quite capable of defending himself against William's attacks, encouraged as he hears Elena cheer him on!

When Roderick moved back to the side of the field, he was greeted by Elena who gave him a friendly hug.

As Roderick returns to his friends, they are quick to cheer for him.
Frederick: "Way to go Roderick, you sure showed them we can take on these lions!"
Henry: "Just keep fighting like this and you might win, just don't let it go to your head. You'll be likely to face an experienced champion in the next round."

Baron Blacktower announced the last duel of the second round. "And now to conclude this round, my best knight, Sir Jory, will fight against Sir Stephen!"
They already saw it coming and made their way to the field, they where the only ones left.
Sir Stephen: "A shame we have to fight each other, what do you say we treat the public to a true jousting match?"
Sir Jory smiled: "I'd like that, but who keeps the score then?"
Sir Stephen: "How about the first one to be dismounted forfeits?"
Sir Jory: "Deal."
While they moved to get on their horses, Frederick was grumbling. "Jory his best knight? what about me? I've been at the castle longer than him!"
Roderick: "He probably meant just for this tournament.. Sir Jory is an experienced jousting champion after all, Sir Stephen too.. they have been in many tournaments like this, while this is our first."

In the meanwhile, Jory and Stephen already charged at each other, lances forward.
As both of them fail to get a good hit, they raise their lance and move around to try again.

The second time, Sir Stephen tries to surpass Sir Jory´s shield but it doesnt work too well, but it helps to throw off Jory´s aim.

Henry: "Why did you stop fighting? You still had a chance of winning if you continued the fight on foot."
Stephen: "I fight against Sir Jory almost every day in training, we are evenly matched. Only one of us can go to the next round, so its good to save our strenghts for that."
Cedric smiled: "Their duels at the castle often take a long time because they are evenly matched.. it takes a long time and leaves both of them exhausted."
The three friends nodded in understanding, now they realised that having to fight a friend in a tournament wasnt all bad.
With the second round concluded, Pierre walks back on the field for an announcement.

Pierre: "Where they not wonderfull ladies and gentlemen? Only four knights remain! They are hereby summoned to the field on horseback and ready for the next round!"
Roderick smiled as he moved forward, this was it! He was one of those four out of eightteen knights who got to stand there!

Henry: "Just stay calm and focused.. all three of them have won at least three big tournaments."
As everyone moved to get on horseback and Roderick did his very best to stay calm, the nobles watched in anticipation.

Sir Constantine's son was hoping his dad would win, the various noble ladies where curious to see which dashing knight would be the champion and some of the noblemen where placing bets amongst each other about who would win.
With the four remaining knights now on the field, Pierre adresses them.

Pierre: "Congratulations good sirs, the four of you certainly fought hard to get this far! Because there are only four of you left, the two who fight the second battle in this third round need to stand ready. First, Sir Constantine will fight against Sir Jory, and then Sir Christopher will fight Sir Roderick."
Roderick and Christopher move aside to make room for Jory and Constantine, while the heralds with their trumpets announced the beginning of the third round.

Great stuff it's amazing when you see how it's been whittled down to just 4 competitors here's hoping Roderick does well but, he's goign to have tough competition will look forward to seeing more action :knight:

While both have a strong attack, their defense is even stronger, they manage to use their shields effectively to avoid getting hit.
While the battle continues on foot, Roderick's attention moves away from the battle when Charles waves for him to come closer.

Charles: "You are doing well so far Roderick, better than I would have done! but keep an eye on Sir Christopher.. I saw from up close how he tricked Frederick. When on the ground Frederick got confident, Christopher just lured him in to attack, making him think he had already won."
Roderick: "Thank you.. that's good advice, I couldnt really see it well from where I was standing. I'll make sure to avoid getting lured into an attack like that."
Roderick's attention turns back to the battle when he hears the crowd cheering.

Sir Jory had put up a good fight, but it simply was not enough to defeat Sir Constantine. Many people already started to whisper about Constantine winning the tournament, he's been one of the knights who was deemed the most likely winner from the very start.
Politely he extends his hand to Jory to help him back on his feet. Together they leave the field to make room for Roderick and Christopher while the squires take the horses back to the stables.

Roderick gets pushed back by the attack before he recovers, pushing back and exchanging blows with Christopher, his helmet gets pushed off, his shield gets beaten out of his hand but he presses on, surpassing Christopher's blade and placing his sword on his shoulder, but Christopher has the exact same idea!

He did his best and got far, but Christopher's experience with tournaments gave him the advantage here.

Fivethousand gold pieces from my treasury and a jeweled golden sword forged especially for this tournament await the victor. As well as the change to challenge Sir Cedric, the ruling champion."
Cedric smiled as he watched the tournament, he didnt seem worried at all. He was simply enjoying the tournament and was curious if the new champion would want to challenge him.

As Christopher and Constantine get back on their feet, they start a fierce battle on the ground.

Both seem very skilled, dodging each other attacks, trying to lure each other in but they don't take the bait. Constantine seems to gain an advantage when he manages to rob Christopher of his shield.
Christopher uses the moment to tackle Constantine though, forcing him to the ground as he presses his attack.

After a short struggle, he manages to push Constantine's sword away and gets his visor open, leaving him defenceless and gets him to surrender!

There is a new champion, he smiles to the audience as they cheer for him, he still takes the time to help Constantine back to his feet.

Constantine: "That was some fight.. I really gave it my all but you where better.. congratulations."
Christopher smiled: "Well fought, I really hope to meet you more often at the tournaments."
As Christopher moved to stand before the king, Constantine moved to the side where Cedric stood ready to shake his hand.

Cedric: "Well fought, I kind of expected you to win this tournament when I first saw the list of competitors, but Christopher improved a lot since the last time I saw him in the tournaments."
Constantine smiled: "It was a good tournament, many strong competitors and I hope everyone enjoyed it. A shame I don't get the chance to challenge you though."
Cedric returned the smile: "You are always welcome at our castle. Feel free to stop by sometimes and we can have a friendly duel."
Constantine gave a polite nod and turned to Henry, Roderick and Frederick: "You three did well considering its your first big tournament... Frederick and Roderick, looks like we have something in common.. we where all bested by Sir Christopher. Henry, I owe you my life. I hope that someday, I will be able to offer you help when you need it."

Frederick joked: "Maybe the three of us should fight Christopher together, he'll never see that coming!"
Roderick chuckled: "Let it go Frederick, we'll just keep training and improving ourselves.. It's good to know there are such talented knights around, and they are good people."
Henry: "I'm curious if he will challenge my brother, I don't think he'd have a chance at defeating him though."
Constantine smiled: "Don't underestimate Sir Christopher, Cedric certainly has his reputation, but Christopher has been underestimated all day yet defeated everyone."
As they keep talking, Sir Christopher receives all the honours that come with winning such a large tournament.

Queen Dominique: "We admire your courage, but moreso your kindness towards your competition."
Jacques de Ridefort: "You honoured your competitors by not holding back, you where wise to not underestimate the newcomers."
Prince Edward: "You fought with the bravery of a Lion today."
Baron Blacktower: "We hereby grant you the reward of five thousand gold pieces, the sword of champions, and the chance to challenge the ruling champion, Sir Cedric if you so wish."
Sir Christopher bowed before the nobility that honoured him, before turning to the side to consider these offers.

Constantine: "I thank you all for your kind words my lords and my lady. I shall put the money to use in my homeland, to feed and clothe the poor. I must decline on the sword of champions however.. since I feel that I have not earned this honour yet.. not without defeating the ruling champion!"
Constantine smiled as he nodded to Sir Cedric: "Sir Cedric, I accept your challenge. I'd like to know how I measure up to the legendary Cedric."
Cedric returned the nod before he moved back to get ready, and Pierre announced the duel properly.

Everyone looked in anticipation at Cedric when he moves onto his horse.

His many tournament victories as well as victories in battle where the stuff of legend. He has not participated actively in the local tournaments in a long time because everyone already knew he would win. And ever since he only fights the winner of the tournament if they wish to. Many tried, but none managed to defeat him yet. Some didnt even dare to challenge him.
The three friends still looked forward to it though, Cedric was all they aspired to be. They loved seeing him in action. Since they arent in the competition anymore, they have exchanged their heavy tournament armors for their usual capes.

Roderick: "I think he'll still give a good fight though.. he is good."
Frederick: "If the three of us can't even defeat Cedric together, how will he stand a chance on his own?"
This was it, the battle many had been waiting for.. both Cedric and Christopher where ready for the charge.

But just as the heralds are about to signal the start of the battle, a scream can be heard behind Christopher. As he looks around, several people are fleeing away scared.

A dark knight standing in the shadows has inspired such dread in them that they are running away in fear.
As he steps forward into the light, the people gasp in fear when this dark knight appears to be the infamous Dread Baron.

Cedric is quick to move forward, positioning himself before the royal stage, ready to protect the nobles and face the Dread Baron.
The guard captain is quick to grab his sword and move forward to try and arrest this uninvited and unwelcome guest.
King Phillip: "Ranulf? you are not welcome here! and how did you escape from prison?"
The Dread Baron lets out a boisterous laugh as he raises his sword.

The Dread Baron: "Muhahahaha! No prison can hold me. Nothing can hold me. Not even the legendary Cedric will be able to stop me. Today I will show everyone that he is not invincible. He will die. I challenge him to a duel to the death. Accept, or I will force you to accept my challenge."
Completely surprised by this turn of events, the once festive mood is suddenly ruined. The guards are on high alert and are watching the dread baron closely, the present knights as well. But he is just one man, and why is he so open in his plan of attack? some of the most powerfull knights are gathered here, surely he can't possibly win?
Soon, we will see how this continues..

That's an unexpected turn of events. How is Sir Christopher going to react I wonder? That Baron fellow is quite rude to interrupt his duel like that.

Sir Christopher isnt too happy about this interference and steps down from his horse and draws his sword. He never heard of the baron before since Christopher comes from far away, but he won't let this loudmouth steal this unique opportunity away from him. A crossbowman is taking aim at the baron as well.

Christopher: "You heard king Phillip. Now leave, you are not welcome here. I have fought my way through this tournament to receive the honour of facing Sir Cedric in a duel. You can't just walk up here at the end of the tournament and claim my reward! You should have entered the tournament if you wanted to challenge the ruling champion."
The Dread Baron just stared him down before speaking with grim determination: "I'll challenge whoever I darn well please, and you won't get in my way."
Without hesitation, the baron swings his heavy sword at Christopher and overpowers him in only three strikes, violently stabbing him at his side as he takes him down while blocking an incoming crossbow bolt with his shield.

Seeing the winner of the tournament, who has proved himself to be a very capable fighter, getting defeated like that and hear him yelp out in pain causes a panic. The people dont know what to do, but the other competitors are quick to draw their swords in response to this unprovoked attack.

Frederick: "No! I didnt mean it that I wanted to see him defeated.. not like this! That baron will have to deal with me now!"
Roderick: "The three of us where defeated by him single handedly not that long ago.."
Henry: "We will fight together, and we are not alone in this."
Soldiers and knights are quick to move towards the baron, surrounding him, fearing he may hurt more people. The soldiers and some of the knights are affraid though, after seeing Christopher get defeated like that and knowing how they'd measure up to Christopher. But they take a stand anyways, to protect the people.

And the Dread Baron stands calm in the midst of all this: "I told you I would make you accept... now face me Cedric. Or are you too affraid to face me alone, just like everyone else?"
Cedric looked back behind him and around him, at everyone gathered, before he adressed them with an unusually stern tone in his voice.

Cedric: "Soldiers, you where not given permission to leave your post. Get back there right now. He may not be alone. Knights, stand back. Crusaders, bring Christopher to safety. I won't allow anyone else to be hurt by this madman. I will take care of this."
As Cedric takes charge of the situation, the soldiers quickly move back to their post rather relieved, Charles and Pynedor pull Christopher to safety while several knights remain close, reluctant to leave while Cedric crosses swords with the dread baron.

While usually Cedric is able to defeat any opponent without even trying if it is a serious fight, the baron seems to counter his every strike, and dishes out his own attacks as well but Cedric seems to counter every one of them.
It seems Cedric has met his match today, which of these powerfull knights will prove victorious? And what other tricks might the baron have planned?

I saw this the other evening but, it was to late in the evening for me to comment, what an unpleasant turn of events I hopCedric can defeat him and Sir Chirstopher manages to defeat him but, it looks as though there's still more surprises to come :knight:.

While the battle rages on, Sir Christopher has been taken to a friendly nun who tends to his wounds.

He feels better already after his wound gets bandaged, but he will need quite some time to recover.

Now that Cedric is fighting him everyone is a bit less worried now. The people are even watching the battle curiously, they never saw anything like it before. They just keep going, neither of them growing tired yet.
Not taking any chances, Sir Constantine has moved back to stand next to his son and the other nobles.

And so they move to investigate the building.. Henry is a bit reluctant to go though.. He'd like to help his brother even though he knows he is no match for the Baron.

With drawn swords, the three friends spread out to ensure all exits of the building are covered before moving in. If theres anyone else in there, they won't escape.

Both the Dread Baron and Cedric have picked up a second weapon, showing masterty at dual wielding weaponry as they try to outsmart each other, giving their opponent two weapons to focus on.

King Phillip, Queen Dominique and Baron Blacktower watch the fight, rooting for their good friend Cedric to win. They start to realise the importance Cedric holds to them.. he has kept their enemies at bay all those years, they may have taken this for granted.
Prince Edward also watches the fight with great anticipation, smiling slightly as he considers that the Dread Baron may have the upper hand.
And lady Blacktower? she doesnt quite seem to get how serious the situation is. All she knows is that this baron is being rude, and that no one is looking at her right now.
As the Baron is slowly overpowering Cedric, pushing him down to the ground, all eyes are focused on them. No one seems to notice that a hooded archer is opening a window! They are too focused looking at Cedric as he stabs the baron in the shoulder to get him to back off.

Frederick opens the door, when he sees the archer he acts quickly and moves in to stop him.

But as soon as he puts a foot inside the house, he is surprised by a big man with a big sword jumping in front of him, determined to push him back!

Everyone is cheering for him, hes about to defeat this most dangerous foe. He's bearing down on his defence with two swords, proving to be the better swordsman in the end.
But as he is standing over the Dread Baron, he notices something out of the corner of his eye.. there is another danger.. he can just feel it... but where?
King Philip smiles as Cedric seems to gain controll over the situation, unaware that the hooded archer is aiming for him!

The whizzing sound of an arrow can be heard as its released from the bow, rapidly making its way towards King Phillip's heart!
At the sound of the arrow, Cedric abandons his fight with the Dread Baron and leaps on the stage, in front of King Phillip to take the arrow for him!

While his armor is thick, the arrow pierced through it still as Cedric is gasping for air. The queen screams, and everyone seems surprised by this sudden attack!
Weakly, Cedric speaks: "G..Get to.. safety.." Then he collapses on the stage.
While this causes fear and panic for everyone, it most strongly affects Henry and Elena, as they see their brother collapse!

With tears in their eyes, King Phillip, Queen Dominique, Baron Blacktower and Lady Blacktower look at Cedric a moment before running off the stage and to safety. Sir Jory, Sir Stephen and the guard captain escort them to safety, protecting them with their shields as the archer seems to fire more arrows at their direction.

Archers on the tower are returning fire at the archer, forcing him to retreat back inside the house.

The knights around him, while they are affraid and know none could match the baron individually, they are ready for battle.
Sir Gareth Boulaise: "We will stop you, no matter what!"
Dread Baron: "Unlikely, you all proved weaker than Christopher and he was nothing compared to me! Muhaha-" He suddenly gets interrupted as Henry rushes at him and agressively pushes him down, seemingly coming out of nowhere!

Henry is very angry: "Murderer! You will pay for what you did to my brother!"
Before anyone can come to his aid, the Dread Baron is quick to recover and easily defeats Henry, now he has him at his mercy.

Dread Baron: "You are nothing compared to your brother boy, maybe I should put you out of your misery right now and put an end to the Swan Knights!"
Elena has walked to the stage in the midst of all the panic, no amount of danger could keep her from going to her brother.
Her tears seem to dry as she looks at Cedric with a glimmer of hope, before she looks over at Henry and the dread baron.
Elena: "No! leave my brothers alone!"
Dread Baron: "If anyone gets near me he dies. I'm leaving now, but I'll be back."
Sir Godfrey: "You aren't going anywhere, we'll fight you to the death if need be!"
Sir Constantine suddenly spoke with a determined voice, drawing everyone's attention instantly: "No, we won't!"

Constantine continues: "Too much blood has been spilled today.. let the Baron through.. Henry saved my life earlier today, protecting me from a knight just as dreadfull as this one. We can't risk his safety."
The Baron grinned: "Smart move.. now get out of my way."
Reluctantly, the knights stepped aside to let the Baron pass through. They respect Constantine's words of wisdom.

In the meanwhile, Roderick and Frederick haven't managed to get past the burly swordsman yet. In a desperate attempt to get to the archer, Roderick grabs hold of him and pulls him down the stairs with him. They still fight each other on their way down as Roderick yells: "Get that archer Frederick! I'll handle this one!"

Frederick hesitated a moment, but then moved inside. He hadnt seen what was happening on the tournament grounds, but the screams he heard where enough to know that archer had to be stopped.

Few soldiers noticed the archer since pretty much all eyes where focused on the dread baron after the archer retreated into the house.
Holding Henry hostage, the Dread Baron has moved to the gates, still surrounded by knights, soldiers and the swan squires.

Much to his surprise, the archer is not too young anymore despite jumping out of windows.
Roderick walks over to Frederick with his new prisoner.
Frederick: "Hey, you caught yours too. Too bad hardly anyone got to see our heroics here."
Roderick: "That they are stopped is all that matters. Let's bring them over to the field so everyone can see they won't cause any more harm."
In the meanwhile, all knights are rushing to their horses to chase after the Dread Baron as Henry gets back on his feet.

Jacques de Ridefort put a hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him. "Don't listen to what that baron says.. creating fear and doubt are his ways. You have proven your bravery several times today. None of us are a knight like your brother.. we are all knights in our own way. Find your own path Henry, you are not your brother.. speaking of which, let's go see him. "
They move back to the stage. Elena smiles when she sees Henry is alright. "It's good to see you are unharmed Henry, I didnt want to say it with that baron still around, but Cedric lives! I didn't want to risk the baron wanting to kill him if he found out."

Henry smiled as he heard this good news, then he looked at the nun standing next to Cedric who was holding the arrow.
Maria the Nun: "It was close, but the arrow missed his heart. There's some stuff on the tip though.. it was coated in poison! I managed to get most of it out so he will make it.. but there's no telling how long it will take before he is concious again."
Henry smiled, very happy to know his brother survived: "Bless you good woman, you saved our brother's life! I could kiss you!"
Maria smiled: "It's quite alright, just lending a caring hand."
Roderick and Frederick arrive at the stage with their prisoners, surprised to see Cedric laying unconcious on the stage.

Frederick: "That's terrible news, we did catch the archer though, and the big guy here that was protecting him. I bet they are palls of the dread baron."

Henry narrowed his eyes at the old man who almost killed his brother and was quick to draw his sword as he moved towards him.
"I should put an end to you right here and now for what you did to my brother!"

Jacques was holding Henry back. "You'd be no better than him if you kill him while he is unarmed."
Elena pleaded with him as well: "Please Henry, he's not worth it."
Reluctantly, Henry put's his sword away. "Answer me this then, why did you do it?"
The Shadow: "The Shadow is a highly trained proffesional archer, the shadow does not reveal any information about his targets or employers."

Prince Edward makes his way past his soldiers and back to the field. "My congratulations on capturing these criminals, but I will take it from here. That arrow barely missed me."
In the meanwhile, the swan squires and the nun are carefully moving Cedric to a better place.
Prince Edward: "My soldiers will take these prisoners away. I will personally question them about the whereabouts of the Dread Baron."
Guard Captain: "No you won't, these men will be taken to the prison here."

Prince Edward: "What?! how dare you question your betters! This is an outrage!"
Guard Captain: "These men where commiting crimes in my city, so they will be put on trial here and nowhere else. If you don't like it, take it up with Baron Blacktower." Obviously the guard captain has no time to put up with entitled royalty and just wants to do his job.
He gestures to several guards to take away the prisoners. "Sir Roderick, Sir Frederick, my thanks for capturing these men." The guard captain politely bows to Roderick and Frederick before leading the prisoners away.

While this is not our land, the Baron has struck down two of our brothers in arms and ruined this noble tournament. We can't let him get away with it."

Henry: "I don't like it either Frederick.. but I have to agree with Roderick.. we will have to not carry our own tasks, but also those of Cedric while he recovers. And that won't be a simple task."

Jacques: "A good idea! Yes, that will be alright."
As the crusaders left to put their plans into action, Sir Constantine said his goodbyes as well.

Everything is quite peacefull again, squires are cleaning up the field while the friends ponder on what to do.

Roderick: "I'm affraid things arent looking that good.. The Dread Baron is still free, and Cedric is the only one strong enough to face him head on. And we also don't know what prince Edward is planning.. he might be connected to the Dread Baron."
Henry: "And he truly lived up to his reputation today.. appearing unannounced at a tournament, defeating the new champion with ease while everyone has seen Sir Christopher is no push over.. and then managing to take out Cedric as well and just leave without anyone able to stop him."
Frederick: "We'll come up with a plan to stop him though.. we may not be able to defeat him in battle but there must be some way."
Elena: "I gues he won't ever let his guard down around women anymore since I knocked him out with a flail last time.."
Henry: "He might hold a grudge against you for that.. I'll make sure to keep you safe as best as I can."
Suddenly a tower squire approaches the group.

Squire: "Both the new champion and the former champion where defeated by a mysterious knight, Sir Hugo is in prison and someone tried to assasinate the king."
Fernando blinked and looked at the squire. "Did I do that? People say I do silly things at times but I dont remember."
Squire: "No, you didnt do that. Right before you passed out you said you where going to double my payment though."
Fernando. "Alright, fair is fair.. now let's go back home and tell king Miguel that Hugo decided to stay here for a while."
Squire: "Shouldn't we tell him that he has been put in prison?"
Fernando: "Nah, then he might get mad and want me to do something about it. Besides, its good ale here! I'm sure Hugo will like it here."
In the meanwhile the squire has brought our friends to the city barracks where the ruling nobles have been kept safe, and where the wounded knights where brought as well.

King Phillip, Queen Dominique and the blacktowers where standing amongst the unconcious and wounded Cedric. Sir Christopher is concious again and while in pain, feels better already.

Maria the nun: "I've done all I can for him sire, but he requires medicine. Without knowing exactly what poison was used, I don't know what to give him. He should be concious again in several days, but without medicine he will stay weak."
King Phillip looked at Cedric, trying hard to hold back his tears. "Cedric.. brave Cedric.. you always kept us safe.. even when I was still a prince, and you a squire entering my father's service. You where always there to watch my back, to protect the castle and our people.. We may have taken it for granted that you would always be there to solve all our problems. I will do all that is within my power to ensure you will recover, my friend."
Queen Dominique added: "Without you, Philip would not have survived.. We will find who is responsible for this Cedric.. all of them will be brought to justice."
When the three friends arrive with Elena down the stairs, king phillip turns around to adress them.

King Phillip: "It's good to see all of you are safe, we have much to discuss though.. But I will give you all a moment with Cedric first."
King Phillip and the others move away from Cedric and to the table, to make room.
While relieved that Cedric will make it, they still didnt like seeing him like this.

Maria the nun: "I will study the poison on the arrow further and see what ingredients I will need for his medicine, I may need to call on you three to help me gather these things."

Lady Blacktower suddenly interrupts: "Gah! I can't stand it in here in this dark dungeon! I want some fresh air! And cookies!"
Baron Blacktower: "Very well my dear, why don't you go to the bakery with Pierre and the guard captain? The streets are safe again now."
Lady Blacktower: "Alright, bye!"
Seemingly in a hurry to go do something she enjoys instead of worrying about the safety of the kingdom, Lady Blacktower is quick to leave along with Pierre and the guard captain.

Baron Blacktower: "This is probably for the best, she never enjoys talking strategy.. will you not join her Queen Dominique?"
Queen Dominique: "This is not the time to think about cookies, we need to take action, or the Dread Baron might destroy everything we hold dear."
In the meanwhile, the three friends join them around the table.
King Phillip: "Ah, now that we are all gathered here we can start discussing how to proceed.. Someone was clearly out to end my reign, but could it have been just the Dread Baron? the archer must have been with him for certain, but the fact that Prince Edward said nothing about Ranulf having escaped from his dungeons only seems to confirm Roderick's suspicions.. But we need to have evidence."

Great work again can feel the sad shocked atmopshere in the story and the photos, look forward to seeing more and hopefully seeing Cedric recovering and some justice being dealt out eventually :knight:

Prince Phillip: "No! I want to stay here!"
Gilbert: "Yes, we want to see whats going to happen here!"
Jory: "Very well.. but then you will miss out on your combat training."
Prince Phillip: "Wait.. combat training? We get to fight with real swords now?!" The prince seemed quite exited about the idea.
Stephen: "No, we don't want anyone to get hurt.. you will fight with wooden swords, but the soldiers will instruct you."
Gilbert: "What are we waiting for in this boring basement then? let's go!"
Exited to get lessons in how to use a sword, the two boys rush upstairs, escorted by the two knights.

Frederick: "He seemed very fast for his age.. called himself the blue shadow."
King Phillip: "The blue shadow?! I have heard stories about him.. an expert archer who is said to never miss his mark... an assasin that cannot be stopped... I thought it was just a myth though.. one my father told me when I was young."
Queen Dominique: "It seems this myth has been true all along then.. stay on your guard everyone."
Henry: "There is no telling how many people he might have killed... he should be send to the chopping block for this!"

Henry stands next to his wounded brother, sword drawn in hand and staring down the man responsible for it.
"Make a wrong move and it will be your last. Are you proud of yourself, hm?"

The assasin looked over Cedric's unconcious body, surprisingly he seems a bit sad, almost remorsefull.
Blue shadow: "The blue shadow has the utmost respect for Sir Cedric, stopping the Blue shadow from doing his work has been deemed impossible untill this day."
Surrounded by knights, the blue shadow is brought to stand at the table, in front of the king.

King Phillip narrowed his eyes at the man who tried to assasinate him. "You tried to kill me, why?"
Blue Shadow: "The Blue Shadow was hired to do his task, but will never reveal his employer."
Queen Dominique: "I assume your employer would not care to free you, why not reveal him so that he can face justice?"
Blue Shadow: "The Blue Shadow does not care for his employer, the Blue Shadow is a proffesional assasin who will be free again one day, to be hired once more."
King Phillip considered this a moment. "I see.. so you will not reveal who hired you out of fear no one will hire you again? Why not seek out another life?"

Blue Shadow: "There is no other life. This is the Blue Shadow's calling. But the Blue Shadow will honour the man who stopped the Blue Shadow's arrow. He requires Krinflower from the pepperwood forest to remove the poison, so he can fully recover."
Frederick: "Why should we trust anything you say? It might be poison!"
Blue Shadow: "Sir Cedric was not the target. Through his sacrifice he proved that I can be stopped, but the blue shadow has also proven that he can stop the legendary Sir Cedric. The Blue Shadow will live to continue his legend, and so should Sir Cedric."
King Phillip: "Alright, I have heard enough.. we will look up this Krinflower but you will be served the cure made with it before Cedric receives it. Please take him back to his cell and bring the other prisoner. He might tell us more."

Halgar: "Not important enough?! I had to protect that old man from whatever would come our way so he could fire one arrow at the king while the Dread Baron created a distraction! When I get out of here, I'll go straight to Prince Edward and demand more payment for what I did!"

Henry: "So what happens now? We can't take the fight to him.. Cedric is the millitairy advisor and leader. He'd know what to do."
King Phillip: "Which is why it is best we keep it a secret that we know of Prince Edward's intentions.. first we will need to focus on finding this Krinflower. Also.. Henry.. during Cedric's recovery I'd like to request you to take over his positon for the time being. You will now lead the swans untill Cedric is capable of it once more."

Henry seemed rather overwhelmed by this. "Sire? But.. I can't possibly stand in my brother's footsteps! I'm not ready for this."
King Phillip: "I know it is a big responsibility, but it is only temporarily.. and I am sure that Frederick and Roderick will help you carry this burden. You are not your brother, and I don't expect you to be.. You are turning out to be a great knight yourself, you have a good heart. You will need to learn to calm yourself though... you can be quick to anger at times."
Henry: "I.. no you are right sire.. I'll try to watch my temper."
Elena: "I'll help you Henry... we are in this together."
Frederick: "Your friends are here too, we'll help where we can."
Roderick: "Yes, you don't need to do this alone.. perhaps you should have a word with your servants before we continue?"
Henry agreed and turned around, Elena moved to stand beside him. The two swan squires and the archer lined up, having overheard the discussion. They where staying close to their lord, Cedric.

Henry: "Alright men.. you are all aware of the situation.. I will do my best to lead the swans in my brother's absence.. If you have any concerns, feel free to speak your mind about it. Together, we can get through this and I hope Cedric will recover soon."
The Swan followers smiled and spoke in unison: "We are with you sir Henry, we respect you and will follow your lead."
Henry nodded to them, and moved past them towards his brother.

Henry spoke determined: "I will make you proud brother.. but please.. get better soon.. Right now I only wish to train with you again, with you seemingly invincible to whatever I throw at you... We will do our best to keep the castle safe during your recovery." Henry could barely hold back a tear as he spoke, remembering better times.
Elena placed a hand on his shoulder, she would wish for things to return to how they where just as well, but would do her best to help Henry through the difficult times ahead.
In the meanwhile, Sir Christopher pushed himself off his bed and moved over to the table, walking rather uneasy and then leaning on the table for support.

King Phillip: "Sir Christopher, you should rest. Don't exert yourself!"
Christopher: "I can't just watch when I'm needed.. I want to help in this.. I heard everything and I think your kingdom should not face this threat alone. There may be more to it than has been revealed yet. I won't fight for a while, but I have friends at several courts.. Other kings should know the truth about Prince Edward as well."
As he speaks, Stephen and Jory return to the table along with Henry and Elena.

Together, all of them are now planning together how to proceed for the times ahead.. There are many things to do and they need to be carefully about it.
The Krinflower needs to be recovered from Pepperwood forest, Prince Edward's true intentions need to be revealed and his plans must be stopped.. and the Dread Baron is also still around. Will they be able to overcome all these dangers without Cedric?
Time will tell.. they are discussing their plans for hours untill they finally come to an agreement..
What exactly they are going to do, will be revealed soon in the next chapter.

Nicely done a great chapter, great strategy by Frederick to get Halgar to talk and the bit where they were talking to the Blue Shadow was very funny. It is good to see Henry being trusted by King Phillip to lead the Swans although also a big repsonsibilty I'm sure he'll do a great job with the help of his friends and hopefully now they will find a cure for Cedric. Look forward to seeing more :knight:
