LOL This just arrived in the mail today for my little man... and Im guessing Ill be spending all Christmas Eve putting it together ;)
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v690/Sysliana/Castle3666_zps2e8e68aa.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Sysliana/media/Castle3666_zps2e8e68aa.jpg.html)
I would really love to make this castle more about the medieval lifestyle, rather then just the fighting and battles and knights (if this makes sense). I love the new bakery and museum and house that came out.
Can anyone suggest any older (or newer) sets that I can look up perhaps on Ebay etc, that have medieval style shops or people?
IM SO EXCITED! -I- actually cant wait until Christmas. I hope he LOVES It. :)

Cool buy! I would suggest the re-releases of the bakery and museum for houses and some Medieval parts. Also, the Knight's Market stall has some cool pieces. :)
-
Castle 3666! One of the few Playmo items I know the number of without having to look it up! My son spent many hours playing with his one, I'm sure your son will love it!
Leave yourself plenty of time on Christmas Eve to set it up!

My favorite set that I bought since getting back to playmobil, always wanted to have it as a child and its been prominently present in all of my stories. :)
As for other medieval sets, I agree about the bakery, museum and whatever houses may be available in your region. In germany they have a blacksmith as well which will come to other countries sooner or later.
Adding to that I'd like to suggest getting farm animals, sheds and fences too, and maybe some trees.
Here's some of the stuff I got with my last DS order.

The stable and fence fit perfectly together, and the shepard with sheep works well in the medieval theme too.
I'd also suggest trying to get your hands on any of the forestmen sets of the 90's, they where released not long after the 3666 castle. They are hard to get though, all I have is a robber and a hunter. Still hoping to get all the other sets at some point.

Kiddo has been BEGGING for the dino sets and the castle sets for Christmas/Birthday (at the same time). So, Ive been wrestling with the thought of trying to get my hands on this castle, or just getting the Lions Castle. I couldnt make up my mind, the newer castle has all the really cool extra stuff, but this one is the best one of the bunch. Every time I went on Ebay to see if I could get my hands on it, the bids went well into the $250-300 range, and Im not paying that much for a Christmas present :P
Needless to say, on one lucky afternoon a couple days ago, this was on there, BUY IT NOW for 155! DING! Mine.
Ive never ordered stuff on DS. Do they do that for America? How does it work?
Thanks!

You will be very happy with this castle. If you put it next to the newer ones, I think you would see the difference quite easily and you would be very happy you bought this instead.
Hmm, has anyone done a direct comparison with the 3666 to the 4865 on this site?
Anyway, you will like this and when you see the expandability potential it is something you can add to over time. You do not need mint in package 7___ DS add ons, you can buy a bunch of extra pieces on ebay that someone is parting with and add them in.
However, do not worry about that now. Your son will get TONNES of playvalue out of it just the way it is!
Does it come with figures too, by the way?

It was 100% complete, just without the box or original instructions (the ones in the pic are printed). So yep! It comes with a couple figures and a couple little animals. I was just thinking about asking relatives, grandma, grandpa, etc, to try and get him a couple other add ons or figures to go with it so was just looking for good suggestions other then the usual cannons and knights and other killing things. Though Im sure there will be multiple battles between dinos and castle folk :P lol

I'm all in for medieval sets other than just "fighting knights" (which might sound odd from someone who's served in Her Majesty's army, trained in martial arts/sport fighting for over 25 years, trains in Japanese sword arts (Kendo and Iaido), holds multiple black belts in Kendo and Tae Kwon Do, etc - but I strongly feel children do not need just violent toys and the olde style of Playmobil's boys toys were better than the modern with assault weapons for police, etc).

WoW! Thats quite the background lol.
Those houses are perfect. Exactly what Im looking for. Unfortunately, as people posted back in 2011, they arent very available. They arent even on American Ebay lol. My best bed will probably be to collect the new ones they are coming out with. I can at least start with the Bakery and Museum, and Market stand. That should take care of a couple little houses at least. Now for some people lol
-
Do not pay "collectors" prices when they are releasing them via Direct Service (Add Ons in the USA).
You can combine them in various ways to make new buildings and buy individual pieces from Playmobil USA. There is a blacksmith shoppe to be released next year as well. It is different from the old one, but it's still unique.
You may not find them by looking for their stock numbers on ebay - except for collector's priced ones. If you just do general searches for "medieval", "knights houses", "medieval buildings", "castle lot", etc you may find them - especially in lots of "castle pieces"

Great choice there, you will be very happy. Do you have the big black dragon already? 4838 at PlaymoUSA (http://www.playmobil.us/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4838) If not then I would recommend that and the bakery. For medievel figures the Lion Knights Troop 4871 is a good addition as an opposing team. For a more pastoral thing then the Shepherd add-on 6204 would be a good one.
I highly recommend the current dinosaur theme by the way. It's the best they've done of dinos ever.

Oh that's a relief to know about the new Dino sets. I heard lots of great things about the set released just before this one so I was apprehensive about which one to get. For birthday I got the trex volcano and the flyer dDino that's out of print.. Before it's unavailable anymore. Hoping family members will contribute to the long necks and three horns (can you tell I watch alot of the land before time?? Lol)
Where can I find the US ds?? How do I use it?

Looks like a great set your son's a lucky boy, if you want some more civilian stuff then I often see suitable figures just looking on Ebay as Rhalius said some of the 90's set did seem quite good for that sort of thing they were ncie and colourful and not necssarily as heavily armoured as some oft he figures today also figures like this one I've got you can take the armour off and use them as a civillian which is good.
http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3890.htm
Looking on the database reminds that in the add on catalogue one of the sets you can order is a medieval family which could be good as well, anyway hope you find something suitable and that he enjoys his castle
-
Nice find!
As DrDalek mentioned, there is a medieval family currently available.

This archer looks nice: http://www.playmobil.us/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4762&showSpareParts=false&cgid=Special
The pink lady here would work in a medieval setting.
http://www.playmobil.us/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4128&showSpareParts=false&cgid=Maerchenschloss
There's a nice princess figure in the series 5 F?gures.
If you find them on Ebay, the figures from nativity sets or Noah's ark sets make decent peasantry. Some of the figures from the princess sets would work for nobility.

I guess you will be playing with Playmobil on Christmas eve. You picked a great classic set that will bring many more years of fun

Congrats for this excellent buy. I also got recently one complete 3666 for my youngest son for next christmas. This will be great to build it then.
Greetings,
Klaas

Its beginning to look a lot like a Playmobil Christmas:

I kind of feel bad, that the only things hes pretty much getting is Playmobil stuff, but he loves playing with it so why not I guess? lol

heh well back when I was a kid, I was very happy with getting playmobil for christmas and really didnt mind getting only playmobil. At times parents can get crazy ideas about giving other stuff than toys for christmas after all. ;)
Was for Sinterklaas here though, but its pretty much the same thing just a bit earlier and no tree but a bag full of presents. :)
Most the stuff I can remember getting for sinterklaas during my childhood was playmobil, I got my three favorite knights that way. :)
-

Some people have the craziest ideas. I HATED that. That is why I NEVER give kids anything BUT toys.
As for playmobil, I'll be happy TODAY if that is what I get for xmas/bday, whatever. It is one gift people can't get wrong ;)
-
Haha, I completely agree :)
I shouldn't worry about these gifts too much. Unless he's getting spoiled like this every three days, why not just give your child what he likes best for Christmas?
-
Indeed, some morderation is key regarding the amounts of time gifts are given.
If playmobil is given every single week, they might appreciate individual sets less and might see it just as more to add to the pile.
When I was a kid, my parents would often reward good behaviour whenever we went shopping with a little box of playmobil. One of those with a single figure or such. If we where good we received such a little something, if we where bad we didnt get anything. We really valued those single clickies as well since to us, each new clicky brought new play possibilities with him/her.
Of course budgets differ for each family situation, but regardless of budget its good to reward good behaviour, or maybe let them help out a bit around the house or such, so they wont simply get what they want regardless of their actions.
If you want to be funny about it you can reward your kids with a playmobil gardening set after they helped you out in the garden for a week. ;)
-
I agree with that. I get paid every two weeks, and since we just found playmobil last year we've been behind in some stuff that we really enjoy, like the surprise bags. Since we've found playmobil every payday if my son has been a good boy, and got smiley faces on his reward chart, I'll buy him a surprise bag or two. And for us it's a bonding moment because we get to sit there on payday and put together the clickies and play together. Some people like my parents say that I'm spoiling him by buying him so much all the time that he expects it but I don't think so. Plus, we're just catching up on the ones we missed. And lately instead of buying him the clickies I've been buying him the halloween ones on eBay for Halloween. He loves it. But yeah, the bigger things get saved for holidays. I can afford 10 every two weeks but not 100 lol

I think that's fine, if you are staying within your budget and he's not becoming bratty about it. It's better than rewarding him with candy, and it's something you can do together, rather than simply giving a toy. I sneak figures into my niece's collection here and there.
There were years as a kid when most of my presents were Playmobil. I wouldn't mind that now, seeing as last year I mostly got socks and slipper, ha ha.
