Title: US and German Playmobil site redone
Post by: davidnbun on July 24, 2013, 21:31:26
I just noticed that the entire German and US site has been redone.  It seems to be in a similar fashion as the Banner page was about a week ago.  Take a look!  :o

ooh!  :o

I'm so sad to say that it is EXACTLY like the Lego site  :'(

Sad sad sad... why do we have to copy them?

I'm looking at the German site and it's animated versions of the different themes.  The UK one is the same.  Neither are like the "banner page" however.

The good news is that it is a lot more dynamic and fun  ;D

The first button I hit on the US site (Shop Online!) takes me to an URL not found message. So, not quite ready yet... ???

ETA: Got to the store via the Site Map link, but many of the pictures of products are missing at the moment, at least in the sale area.

It's HORRID. A LOT slower, and full of stupid animations.

When doing a "for fun" site, that is fine. If you're doing something that actually has some content, either information, or more important, a store, you want things to WORK. FAST. You do not want people to have to click 10 times to get to a product.  Actually, usually people go to a lot of trouble to REDUCE the number of clicks needed to buy something. They don't like money. Only explanation.

Gods. I'm also willing to bet (not tested) that bloated thing doesn't work in plenty of browsers. Unless there's an alternate downgraded version. Uhm - that'd be worth finding.

Parts order is crippled too - how in Hades are you supposed to know what you're getting??? You wanna get the "Grundfigur 1900 Frau" or the "Grundfigur 1900 Frau"? Uhm.. I think I'll go with the "Grundfigur 1900 Frau".. yes. Wait.. It's a puzzle piece! BRILLIANT! Ah, and clicking the add to cart.. a silly animation (time waster)..

Seriously, who does this things... I find it so sad to see my beloved playmobil (no, wait, PM. the title says "PM") go backwards, instead of forward.

Tahra is exactly right.  It's HORRID!  Why do people think they need all these drop down boxes and animations that really don't add anything to the shopping / looking experience.  If anything, it makes it harder to find something.  And on small screens, it just flat out unusable.

Come on Playmobil, don't fix things that aren't broken!

Kids don't buy stuff. If WE find it annoying, imagine an.. "unenlightened" parent...

I agree...it's too hard to navigate for someone who just wants to buy something and get on with their lives!  :hmm:

Due to my broadband having a maximum speed of 1.2 mps (last night we were down to 0.54 mps) it is taking ages to download a page. Wanted to check the new Cargo range and it said there were 44 items on the UK site, but would only download the first 9 for me.

All those bendy limbs.  Horrible!!!  8}
It really bugs me when advertisements show a product doing something it doesn't clearly do, like car commercials that show the car rail sliding like it's a skateboard.  Same vein here. new website design= Fail

With all the "blinky winkies", the site is slow as Tartarus, and probably unuseable in older browsers/slower conns. And for what?! NOTHING.

I don't understand. WHO decided that?!

The store part is particularly ridiculous.. I mean, I can understand having a "fun" time-waster site, for kids (or for us ;) ) - but clicking on the store, that's BUSINESS. It should be simple and WORKING. KISS people, KISS. AGH.

The upside is that we can look at all the sets in better detail, zooming in over the picture. Theres often even more pictures of the set as well but that might just be for the newer ones.

is there an upside to this than?  :P
i agree totally it's overdone and copied form LEGO®, but in a bad way. Why show something that will never be in a box? Weird....
Kids will look through this as well.

Oh well, guess the webcare team of Geobra thinks otherwise  ::)

And Produkt-Archiv is not working at the moment  :( - the best bit of the site IMHO because it isn't persuading one to spend money.
Sheesh this new look is just HORRID!

Well, this may be an unpopular view, but I LOVE it. :-[ They've brought it into the 21st century, finally. And FINALLY there is a way to zoom in and get a better look at each set! I've been wishing they'd do that forever. I haven't had any problems at all with the site being slow, except for the zoom taking a few seconds, but not that bad. I haven't looked much at the activities, but the playworlds section is nice, IMO. It makes the site more interesting and definitely more modern. Change isn't always a bad thing.

Change isn't always a bad thing.

It is if it makes it harder for people to give them money.. oh, wait. Right.  ::)

I agree that it MAY be an improvement for the "useless" areas - for fun, I mean. IF it works in most devices/browsers....  Now on the store...

Also, at least to me, the default style for the images is the wrong one - they overlap the ref and number, and get out of bounds. Which is plain ugly - not to mention annoying and bad, hiding important info.

I haven't seen the problem you are talking about, and it seems as easy as ever to me. Select the theme you want, add it to the cart, and check out, doesn't seem that hard.
Title: Re: US and German Playmobil site redone
Post by: tonguello on July 26, 2013, 16:02:38
All in all the site is cuter. I see kids could easily spend some fun time navigating the site.
It is not easier to use though.
It might be that we need some self adjustment to the changes guys, we are old  :P ...

BUT I can't digest the fact that it looks exactly like you-know-who's page!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

ANYWAY.....WHAT I CAN'T REALLY STAND IS THE MUSIC!!
Go to the theme "FAIRIES" and go through it... the music makes you want to kill yourself or stick a couple of clikies in your ears.

Oh there's music? I always keep my laptop muted, so I hadn't heard it yet.

There's music? I didn't get music - I'm usually listening to music, so a site that dares play something that I didn't tell it to, either I REALLY wanna see it, or.. goodbye.

That's a major no-no.

Just visited the belgian page, it is somewhat different then the German one. The belgian site runs perfectly on my laptop, but the German one is much slower and some things take too long to load.
And I need to go on the German one to look up (recent) partsnumbers, as the belgian site doesn't have an online parts-service (and we lost playmodb indefinately) ...

Not sure yet if I like this whole new concept...  :eh?:

I'll have to believe you guys when you say it is a copy of L***'s site, I haven't ever been to the Dark Side ... ;D

Oh, I noticed they've put a link to the PCC, besides the FB- and twitter-icons.  :)

I don't think he meant indefinitely as in forever, I think he meant, for an indeterminate amount of time.

Not a fan of this new design, the animated klickies definitely add a certain Lego element to the website. :(

I was just looking at the new playmobil site, but i actually start to like it  :-[
One thing i just noticed was this set:
7439 2 trailers (http://www.playmobil.nl/on/demandware.store/Sites-NL-Site/nl_NL/Product-Show?pid=7439&showSpareParts=false&cgid=Country#cgid=Country&start=47) for only €10,99. What a great value set! So much stuff in there. If compared to, let's say the DS-dino trailer it's even cheap, that one costs almost the same.

Then i realised: when choosing a theme in the shop, the new site shows regular and DS items on one page. I think that is an improvement!

btw almost all the PM-sites have been redone. The Dutch one too. Maybe change the topic title?

That was the case before too... At least I always saw them on the same page on the german and "portuguese" sites..

At the moment we have lost the archive sections on the German and French sites.
I have been informed that Playmobil are working on them and they should come back.

I didn't know the French site had an archive section. Granted I haven't been to the French site more than a couple times.

I find the US site terrible.  You need to keep the mouse moving back and forth to get the information you want.  If you move your mouse too far to the bottom when looking at the bottom of the page, another screen pops up covering the page.  Most anoying.

By the way, the LEGO site is not any better.

Still no Pruduktarchiv after 3 months  :(

The website says it will be back "bald"- I thought that was German for soon?

I have posted a member blog there, but couldn't see any other way of asking for information on this subject- is there another method Wesley? I find the PCC website inscrutable at the best of times!

Go to About/Team|Contact and then click the message link under Any Questions below Anna and Sandra's profiles. Send them a message there asking about it and they will talk to the developing team and get an answer for you. The link is still there at Playmobil.de

Thanks, Tim. I might try that another time, but anyway I got an email response to my blog post:

"Our colleagues are working at full speed on updating the product archive. We don't know when the archive will be ready to go online again, but if there are any news, you'll get them here in the PCC.

Thanks for your patience!"

I was impressed that I got a response so quickly, even if it wasn't very illuminating! I wonder if the resurrection of the Archiv will be announced on PCC?

That seems to be the boiler plate answer to every question at the pcc

"Our colleagues are working at full speed on  __________________________. We don't know when the _________ will be ready to ___________, but if there are any news, you'll get them here in the PCC.

Thanks for your patience!"

Fast response, slow action

Oh yes, as in

"Our colleagues are working at full speed on procrastination. We don't know whether this prevarication will truly obfuscate you, but if there are any news, you'll get them here in the PCC.

Thanks for your patience!"

Edit- replaced 'beguile' with 'obfuscate' (a word which had temporarily slipped my mind!)!
