More usually it's called a spinning wheel.  I think it first appeared in a mediaeval set.

It's the spinning wheel from the Multi-Girl set 4338
It first appeared in brown I believe with the medievel shop stall add-on 7855

a spindle is part of a spinning wheel, but can also be used by hand

Really?' are you THAT young that never saw Disney's Sleeping Beauty?
Never heard Maleficent saying "TOUCH THE SPINDLE!!"   :o ... OH! youth!

it's a beautifull accesory. There's one in brown and tan that comes with the arms stand add-on.  ;)

It's actually a really good movie.

One of Disney's best if you ask me.

The start is quite beautifull with lots of decorated knights, nobles and all kinds of medieval folks. Maleficent may very well be the best disney villain they ever had as well. Would advice to watch it in english though since that voice actress is brilliant. Intelligent, subtle when need be, and very intimidating too when pushed too far.

You are all very young! Sleeping beauty is a disney movie!! Disney made a movie of the fairytale the sleeping beauty by Perrault/Grimm brothers. This story was written down in 1697, disneys grandfather was not even born yet!

 :D

And it was an oral tale before that :)

I'm not sure if I've ever seen the full movie or just large chunks of it.

The Disney movie is so good that I was too afraid to watch the end bit with the spindle when I was a kid. So scary!!!

@ conniefrère: I might be young, but we did have the Grimm story books at home  :)  Some of those stories were actually quite horrible. I don't mean they were bad, I mean they were brutal  :-\
How about that Cinderella story. If I remember it right, her step sisters used some harsh methods to make the shoe fit their feet.
