Title: Fakes?
Post by: gixchange on April 11, 2013, 18:13:08
Are these counterfeit figures and if so how do I report them.

They do not look counterfeit to me - if they are, they are pretty darn good and I'd be happy to have them even if they were.

Modern/city life figures/sets are not my thing (Knights, pirates, historical are) but Playmodb.org has a "Klickie feature find" option.  You check off what features you want to search by and then it will bring them up (with pictures of them) and then (if the site was working) you can click on the klickie (pun intended) and find out what set(s) it was used in.

You can find it here:  http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/whoami.pl (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/whoami.pl)

They're obviously customs. The tanned arms don't fit the face of the clicky on the left.

I acquired these on EBay from Hong Kong.  I should have retracted my bid right away, especially after I saw the items were from Hong Kong.  However as a seller myself I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I didn't pay a lot of attention until they arrived.  I thought they were to be randomly chosen from those shown in the listing.  However they didn't match some would of been OK if they came with the heads shown in the listings.  After I looked at the listing and others by the same seller, I began to have my doubts they were authentic.

Based on the listing it looks like the seller purchased hundreds of loose Playmobil parts and assembled them at random.  I would be suprise if Playmobil sold parts like that.  As for them being custom figures.  The problem is arm and head colors don't match.

Also I taken some figures apart which is quiet difficult in itself.  Which is hard to do with out damage to some of the parts. So if I was doing customs I would make sure they looked realistic.

without referring to playmodb, I think the 2nd and 3rd are still originals....the seller might not even be a  playmobil collector and probably treat these as goods....probably got them somewhere, not as parts....just my guess ;) anybody here working with in the CSI?

I'd say the third could be from the cargo theme.

I think I bought a lot from this seller.  Figures from current themes with some of them customized in bizarre ways, pharoah head pieces on beach people, people with native american painted faces, etc. But these are definitely not fake.

I came close to buying those too - the random thing put me off. Some are great, others not so...

All meant for popping, I'd say.

Thank you for all the replies.  I think tahra & el jefe are referring to the same seller.  What little I know about figures comes from two websites, one being Playmobil.  So when I first looked at the group I thought they all must have been standard figures.  The only reason I had doubts is when I received figures identical to what was shown in the listing but with different heads.  If the heads matched what was shown in the listing I would have just thrown them into a box and forgot about them.

I have attached another photo from the lot I purchased.  So far I have not figured out how to post more than one picture at a time.

The main reason I haven't stripped them for parts is I do some selling on EBay.  I don't want to sell some one a knight figure and have them tell me that the hair is fake.

Thank you all again.

That is the Hong Kong seller who has piles of klickies at random. They are about $0.75 each on the US auction. I wanted to try and buy a lot from him that had free shipping and as of a month ago they still have not arrived. He is sending more so we will see what I get. Through my conversations with him he sounds like he has a lot of klickies. Perhaps he gets them at the same place as all the European sellers get their big randome lots of klicky parts. I had one seller who must have had thousands of Klickies.

Perhaps if I can get a better price I would buy more.

It would be great to get a lot of random parts and be able to mix and match!

Where do they get their lots?!

Where do they get their lots?!

That I would LOVE to know!

If I could pick the odd ones I wanted I'd go for it... not random though..

Thank you Rasputin.  You answered the major question that I had;  which does Playmobil sell large batches of its parts. Maybe that is why Playmobil didn't seem concerned when I contacted them.

Knowing that I can strip down some of the figures and use them as parts.

Thank You everyone for your help.

I don't want to sell some one a knight figure and have them tell me that the hair is fake.

When you use the term "fake," that immediately makes me think of parts that are not original Playmobil.

People (even children) often swap parts on figures. Hair is especially easy to remove and people sometimes forget which hair goes on which figure afterwards. Changing parts doesn't make the figures fakes. It just means that they have been customised.

Most people buying figures on eBay will not mind if you have changed some parts as long as they can see clearly what they are buying. The only problem might arise when someone sells a customised figure and tries to claim that it is a rarity or an exclusive.

It appears from some of the other posts, that some companies are able to buy large quantities of parts from Playmobil.  That appears to be what the person I purchased these figures from does.  They then assembly them in some bizarre ways such as a woman in a modern tennis outfit with an Egyptian head piece.

I just going to strip them down and use them for parts.

They look real to me but you never know.... Be careful when buying from an unknown source I've had a bad experience before and do my research now . GL  :)
