Title: Playmobil tunnels

Playmobil tunnels

If you wish some tunnels at your layout, but don't want to build them yourself, there are pre build tunnels on the market. They are made by Heki (http://www.heki-kittler.de/) and NOCH (http://www.noch.de/), both well-known for their pre build landscape's and tunnels for H0, TT, N and Z model trains. But there are other examples too.

From Heki:

Article number 5091. Price € 21,90.

Thanks for this info.  I knew about the Noch ones and came across the larger one secondhand and very well priced but didn't buy it at the time.

They really are very expensive - especially considering how and what they're made of.

I've had model railways since a child and the cost of train set accessories is outrageous.  The Playmobil stuff is quite a bargain compared to "hobby" equivalents.

The tunnels are quite well detailed and one reason for their cost is that the G-scale market is small and that puts unit costs up.  I haven't seen examples of all the makes, but the ones I have seen are of a lightweight material, again understandable as something heavier would be difficult to move around on a layout, e.g. when setting it up and putting it away, and costly to transport.

Of course you are right, but the choice is yours if you want to buy one or not. It is more fun to build a tunnel yourself, but sometimes people have their reasons to buy a RTR model. Both Heki, NOCH and Pegasus Models offer a model for about 20 Euro/Dollar. If you keep in mind that a G scale tunnel is at least 4 times bigger than a H0 tunnel, the price mentioned is very reasonable. And as "playmofire" said, the G-scale market is very small. At least 75% of all model trains are H0, all other scales share the other 25%.
If you want to buy a ready-build tunnel is up to you, but for those who want to buy a tunnel I made this compilation. And last but not least: also search on ebay or at second-hand markets for a bargain.
