Title: 4124 and weight
Post by: wakwak on March 06, 2013, 09:35:47
Hello,

I recently got some Playmobil trains for my kids and really love them (both my kids and the trains ;-) ). By the size of them, my kids can really play with them (they like to put a lot of stuff in the wagons) and they allow some nice layouts in the living room. Well, they make the perfect toy to spend a lot of fun time.

So far, I only own RC sets because I think they are safer and easier to use with the kids.

As of today, our collection is
- 1 x 4010
- 1 x 4017
- 1 x 4085
- 1 x 4258
- 2 x 4124
- 1 x 4113
- 1 x 4107
- 2 x 4102
- 1 x 6309
- 1 x 4115 (on its way)

So already some nice trains can run in our flat (4 locomotives and a dozen wagons), but I plan to buy more 4124 so I can have a nice modern 3 or 4 car passenger train. Also, I might look for some red old fashion passenger car to expand our 4017.

I have one first question about weight.
I understood that adding some weight to the cars is mandatory to haver better rolling. Most of my wagons came with their usual weight plate + holder (4017, 6309, 4010,…) but some other I bought on ebay came without (4113, 4107, 4102). For these wagon, I can find the weight plate + holder on the internet. But I have a issue with the panorama express wagons: I find them very noisy. Would adding some weigh solve this? If it does, would you have an idea how to do that? Screw or glue some custom weight plate?

Many thanks for you help and I'm looking forward to share this new hobby with you.

Cheers,
Wakwak

Very nice collection of trains. Have you tried lubricating your wheels on the panorama car or is it a diffrent kind of noise?

If you find you  need to add weight, then the Playmobil weight plate is a starting point.  Alternatively, compare the weight of the 4124 with the weight of an old coach (including the weight fitted to it) and add the difference to the 4124.

The low profile wagons such as the 4104, 4105 and 4106 appear not to have weights fitted as standard, suggesting the weight is partly a stabiliser as well as a means to get better running.  With the 4107, you can't actually fit the weight as you do with the other high profile wagons - it has to be fitted slightly off centre front to back.

Hi,

I did already put some oil on the wheel of the panorama express cars to increase rolling performances. And they indeed roll very well. But the noise I get sounds to come from other parts having some "mechanical float". I was thinking it could be the bogies (those cars being the only one having bogies)....

And thanks for the list on Playmodb, it make me realize I made a typo. I meant 5258 (that my boy is getting for its birthday next Monday ;-) ) and not 4258.

Alos, do you know if roofs for the 4102 is a rare item? The one I got had a strange color issue, turing light green...

Cheers,

Good suggestion, I'll try to compare the weights.

This is interesting because the green flat bed car I got with 4017 which looks similar to 4104 came with a weight plate. Maybe the previous owners added it.

That's possible.  Anyone who buys my 4104, 4015 and 4106 will find weights on them.  Equally, coaches and high profile trucks I've bought secondhand haven't always had weights on.

Isn't it the same roof as the 4115? double vents and not one long one like on the passenger wagons

You are very lucky to get the 4085, that never made it to the US and I really would love to get a few of the engines and a dozen or so box cars. Even the loading crane is nice in gray.

Hi,

the weights and their holder have been available via the DS, but they are not so cheap...
Try to get some on ebay...

Regards

I have to admit I was pretty happy when I found a 4085 on ebay. Unfortunately, is was not properly packaged and the small black handles on the engine were broken. Hopefully, i'll find some on the Internet. However the box is huge (I just received it 2 days ago) and its a beautyful set.

Roof for 4102 and 4115 are indeed similar but looks hard to find online.

I found the weight plate on the DS store as a replacement part for The 5258 but I don't find the plate holder.

check playmoking, he sells a lot of train parts. Also check miscellaneous auctions as I have bought many lots that would have random train parts, such as roofs. German and UK auctions are way better than US for trains :'(

Good luck and happy enginering

I checked with UK DS and the parts you want are available still for the 4085.  I am putting in an order this week or next week for them and will gladly add a set for you to it and post them on to you.

As regards the weight holder, the weight plate from the truck in the 4010 set, part number 30 25 7920, should still be available.

Many thanks for the offer. As for the part still available in the DS UK store, are you referring to the weight and weight holder or the small black handles ?

Thanks,

The small black handles.  It looks as if they come as a set with four black corner posts and a black flag.

As regards the red weight cover, I'm pretty sure it will be available as the 4010 set it was part of has only recently been discontinued.

I found some black handle on ebay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Playmobil-Eisenbahn-2-Griffe-schwarz-fur-Lok-4025-4050-7-/360605008677?pt=DE_Allesf%C3%BCrKind_Spielzeug_Playmobil&hash=item53f5bbc325
But if getting some from DS UK is no more expensive and easier, I'll gladly accept your help ;-)

Cheers,
Wakwak
