Title: Coloradoan breaks the trend
Post by: Pheline on January 31, 2013, 02:21:25
I couldn't just say "Hi from Boulder"- that's too much like what the other newbies say.
Playmobil came into my life when my eldest was about a year old. Despite thinking it's gonna leave or I'll stop buying, my collection grew by 3127, a Pirate Superset, just last weekend. Ostensibly that was for my son- but we let each other play with all of them. The first sets I bought were the old Playmobil 1-2-3 house and the lion tamer, trailer, lions. The house was fantastic and extremely well loved.
I'd like to do some customization and some more stop action movies, but right now I'm pretty much trying to figure out what I have, get things under control, find a way to set up some on a regular basis. I don't know how anyone does it- do you have a separate room for them? :eh?: I just ran through the sets of instructions I own to see what I own- it seems to total at least 75 sets. That kinda came as a surprise to me but maybe it's a small collection compared to some of you. Of course there are plenty that I lust after but won't be getting any time soon, unless they fall into my lap like the *complete* Victorian house with extension floor that I bought for $10 right around Christmas. :high5: Yeah, sure it needed a good cleaning, two walls are missing wallpaper, the curtains are a wreck and it could use a shipment of flowers- but that was worth every penny since it set off a whole new round of exploration and appreciation. Not that I'd complain about spending ten bucks on it. :redhair:

Welcome!
As for control, I actually only have one room all to myself (student, shared house), so lately I've been rotating a small display and keeping everything else in the closet. It's not ideal, but space is at a premium.

Welcome from Portugal!
I'm actually trying to organize my playmomountains, and make a playmoroom.... Not sure if I'll live to see it done though. (documented in the PROCESS: here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=8205.0))

Well that sure was a fun read, welcome to the forum. There is nothing like getting an amazing set for a ridiculous price to trigger more collecting

Welcome from Amsterdam, the Netherlands! I agree with Rasputin; when I've found a bargain I'm so excited that my next buys are always overpriced... saved money at the latest buy so I can afford to pay a little more for this one.. :eh?:
Stop action movies? Makes me curious.... how do you do that? I make a fantasy comic; The Story of Randolph, you can find at the story telling area or click on the link in my signature below.

Welcome from the Netherlands. :)
It might help to look at stuff you feel you could need for your stop motion movies. Some buildings, trees and such can always be usefull. That's kind of what I am selecting my purchases for: wether I can use it or not for my stories.
And to answer your question: nope, I don't have a seperate room for my playmobil. Though I must say it does limit my space for it. At the moment its all stored in closets and drawers in my room and at the attic. Still living at home with my parents but when I move out I do plan to get a house with an extra room for my clickies. :)

Welcome from Oregon! I do have a room for Playmobil but it ends up all over the house anyway. That was a great buy, congratulations. Once you've had a little practice you should be able to use the 'I'm getting it because I need it for that big project' technique to justify just about anything. It's right up there in my bag of tricks with 'it was on sale, and I was going to get it eventually anyway'. ;D

Hellooo from Belgium
Sounds like an excellent deal you made with the victorian house. E-bay should help you with some new curtains rods and flowers. The curtains are very easily replaced, just buy some felt fabric in the colours you want and cut out the pattern.
We don't have room for PM either. When I'm making a diorama I always end up with a crammed living room and our furniture stacked on the side. When I'm done, I put all the boxes back in the attic (a very small one on the side of the roof, which is filled to the brim). Maybe one day...
