Hello boys and girls
Perhaps some of you have already seen some of the chess pieces I put together in my Random Customs thread.
Well, today I am proud to present to you the complete project! First, a few overall pics:

Some of the pieces you've already seen:
Kings and Queens
(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x335/Baldthar/DSC05071.jpg)
Bishops (we call them officers in the greek chess for some reason)
Knights
(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x335/Baldthar/DSC05068.jpg)
I thought at first to somehow customise a horse, cut and glue maybe, but after some consideration I preferred to give the knights the black and white crests of the unicorns for distinction and the jousting spear.
Towers
(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x335/Baldthar/DSC05069.jpg)
Not so easy to create a chess tower with playmobil... I've thought it many times and came up with various ideas, like making a small base and set a heavy armed klicky on top... but after all the deliberation, the idea of a heavily fortified knight in armor with a broad tower shield and a longsword seemed more appealing
Pawns:
Just your average footman...
And a few on-game moves...

Hope you enjoy the pics, as much I enjoyed making the pieces :xmascheer:

Nice set, Wolf Knight! <*)
-
That's amazing Wolf Knight! Even I feel like playing! (what a disgrace that'd be - the klickys would flee from my (lack of) skill!)
I like your ideas for both the horses and towers. :)
(did you paint the hem of the white bishops skirts?)
-
Fantastic, Panos! I really love how you used the unicorn crests for the knights -- brilliant! Really great work. :)9
-
Beautiful Panos! Great solution for the knights! I start with e2-e4 ;)
-
Excellent!!! I really like your choices for the figures. It's all in the details, but it's very fitting.
And I would absolutely love to play chess with that set 8-)
-
Excellent work Panos, congrats. I love it.
You can bring this, here to my cafeteria and play together, drinking a very nice cup of coffee.
Friendly George. <*)

Looks great. The pieces are very easy recognisable. You reallycould play chess with thinking what piece was that again there.
:xmascheer:
-
Very nice work there looks like your choices have worked well, like the contrast between the 2 sides the white ones seem much purer whereas the black ones suggest at something a little more sinister :)
-
That's a nice chess set, Panos. My favourite parts are the Towers, and…the white king! I loooove how this white crown looks! The white round shields are good too, and maybe I will use some for my Saracens, with your permission, of course!
Best
A.

What a cool idea Panos. All the pieces look great! :xmascheer:
-
You had a very good idea! But you have also made a marvellous job with the chess pieces.I have really enjoyed both army.My favorite is the dark one as always! Bravo Panos.
You used to be a master customiser but you have also become a skillful painter!
-
hey WK!
I've never succeeded making chess pieces because I could never figure out how to make the 'castles'(thats what we call the 'towers')....I cant think of a better solution than yours....I think the choice of those round and flat topped helmets and the slits for their faces looks like those arrow windows(?) on castle walls!

what a great project Panos!
Will it be played with? :)
-
good work :) My favoites are the kings and queens!!!! :snowman:
-
Very nice result, Panos! 8-)
Macgayver did a similar Playmobil-chessboard about 5-6 years ago, but I prefer the klickies you customized for yours.
-
Beautiful! :wow:
These are amazing Panos!
Well done indeed! :)

Glad you liked it guys :) Thank you for your feedback and positive comments! Much appreciated!!!
(did you paint the hem of the white bishops skirts?)
I just scratched off the hem with sandpaper, same thing I did to all surfaces before painting them.
Will it be played with? :)
Of course it will!!! I have it in my living room and I am anxious for visitors to challenge them to a game ;D
You can bring this, here to my cafeteria and play together, drinking a very nice cup of coffee.
I may take you up on that, my friend!!! :)
The white round shields are good too, and maybe I will use some for my Saracens, with your permission, of course!
Of course Arnaud, feel free to do so!

A wonderfull chess set, I sure hope these fellows will get to play many chess games. :)
To my knowledge, the best chess sets come from greece, I bought one as a souvenir when I was there. Not with clickies sadly enough, but what I believed to be greek soldiers. Years later and on closer inspection they appear to be more carthaginian.

Just catching up on things after Christmas. so sorry I am late commenting on this :-[
Your chess set is wonderful Panos, such a lot of thought and work has gone into it. :wow:
I can't decide which pieces I like best...
I love the white king and the bishops, but for someone who doesn't particularly pay much attention to knights, I do think that the knights with the unicorn helmets are perhaps my favourites
