A few weeks ago, I was at a garage sale and came across a shelving unit for displaying decorative items that caught my eye. They were nice and open, with glass shelves, and no back or sides. The shelves are quite deep, very spacious for displaying playmobil buildings. Only problem was that one of the glass shelves was missing. Still, for $15 I couldn't pass them up, and I had an idea for what to do about the missing shelf. I've rather unconventionally placed this display right in front of my window, but since they are so open, when you are in the room you hardly even notice they're there and can look right through them. So here are my new displays. Sorry some of the pics are dark, it's hard with the light coming from in front of the camera.

Excellent idea bb and very nice displays, well done. My favourite is the underwater diorama, I like it very much.
Many thanks for the pictures.

That looks really nice.. I'd never have considered putting such a thing in front of the window - what a great idea!
(and what do the furry neighbours think?)
-
Thanks guys! The furry neighbors don't seem to mind, but I think the klickys may not be as fond of them. ;) Their hay, pellets, and bedding all generate dust, but worse, they somehow manage to spray green lettuce juice out of their cage and all over the klickys! Not sure what that's all about, but the klickys on the yacht are the ones that get it, so they have to get regular baths to remove all the green spots.

what a great idea bb!
I like how you solved the problem of the missing shelf. ;D
Now you need to solve the dust problem.... always a downside, am I right? 8}
I recently discovered that even if your shelves have glass doors the dust squeezes in all the same.
Best invention ever will be a shelf that sucks off the dust itself :(
Love the volcano!

 Yeah, always a problem, and you're right, glass doesn't usually help much. :-\

All those dioramas look great some nice feautres in there but, for me my favourites have to be the underwater one because it looks so really like all the fishes are actually swimming through it and the playground because it's got a lot of the bits I had a as a kid carousel, roundabout, see saw, climbing frame it might have been my sisters before I was old enough to play with it :)
-
A great display, I like the one with the speedboats best. :) Nice to see those clickies relax and have a good time.
-
very nice looking self and I like the spot you found for it. It looks like with the sun out the sets get illuminated well and with the glass shelf's the light travels well through the whole thing. Great idea
-
Good idea and nice displays, bb! 8-)
But watch out with white parts, especially from older sets; they might discolour by the sunlight.

Thanks everyone!

Good point! They don't get direct sunlight, at least, because it's a north window and under a porch. But still, that's a good reason to keep the displays rotating, which I like to do anyway, so nothing is exposed to the sun for too long.
-
Lovely display, bb!!! Its nice that the shelves are made out of glass. that way the display is not too stuffy!!!
-
Lovely, great way to show several displays at once!
I really like the underwater world underneath the boats and sunbathing clickies :)
-
Nice display, bb. Maybe you could also have a plane circling over the shelf. 😁
-
Thanks, guys.
Arnaud, I would, but I can't put holes in the ceiling. :( We used to have that big plane hanging from the A/C vent in the ceiling, though.
I've thought it would be cool to do space exploration on the top shelf, then airplanes on the next, then swiss alps, then boats on the ocean, then underwater, moving on down through the altitudes. Or I could move down through history, starting with the dinosaurs. ;D Then cavemen, egyptians, romans, pirates, western.
-
So many good ideas, don't stick to just one display. Keep this one for a few weeks/months and show us the next! 😁

They have those sticky pads that are removable and have a plastic hook on them. The big ones are very strong
Interesting ideas. Maybe you could do an underworld one under the ocean, all zombies like its klicky hell

Will do! The fun is in setting them up -- after that they just sit and collect dust.

A very good use of some old display shelves, Bonnie, and nicely displayed Playmobil.
Maybe the furry ones with their lettuce juice squirting are LEGO fans!
When you have the light behind the subject you're wanting to photograph, your camera possibly has a control somewhere marked "Backlight". Press this and the camera will compensate automatically. (You may have to press it again after the photo to stop the camera compensating every time irrespective of where the light is.) However, this will only work within limits.

Thanks for the tip, Gordon. And they better not be Lego fans! :o

Wow, awesome displays! I love the the water scene. Great job! :xmascheer:
