Title: Toys Inspired by Playmobil
Post by: Wesley Myers on November 28, 2012, 22:11:07
I came across this:

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/506191608/Self_installing_palace_beautiful_luxury_castle.html (http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/506191608/Self_installing_palace_beautiful_luxury_castle.html)

If you scroll down you can see a lot more sets by this company - I wonder how they connect together?

Blatant copies! That makes me kinda mad, really. I wonder if geobra can sue them?

oh, this is bad news....it means Geobra might not even want to sell in China....and it may mean there's now one less reason to make Asian themes to attract their kids....

those who buy these cheap copies might not now be the right customers anyway and when they realise there's a Geobra with a world of beautifully produced Playmobil, they'll want to own these 'originals' when they can afford them later....and head for "Hamleys" so heads up! ;)

That ship is laughably small. How could the figures even sail on it?

  imitation is the highest form of flattery. These are quite ugly though and makes all the crazy geobra colors look sane  :P

IMO, the big problem with this kind of toys is the quality of the product, that can be a danger for kids...even the plastic, the paint etc...they used can be toxic...

I guess that it will be difficult to Geobra to do something....They can only forbidden these copies in Europe and in North America....

I saw some article awhile back about Playmobil taking the molds that were in China back to Europe because of copying concerns. I guess they saw these.

what is strange is the molds used for the Chinese playmobil were diffrent than the typical Geobra ones. To me it seemed like diffrent or older injection mold technology and the Chinese are quite aware of that type. Now the mold technology Geobra can demonstrate with multiple color injection and molding movable parts in one pass did not seem to be sent over to china.

Well, it does make sense to keep your more sophisticated technology close. I will be happy if they bring everything back from China.
