The following is a humorous look at some of the different types of visitors you will see at your local zoo. Sadly, all these are based on real-life experiences. ;) Sorry some of the pictures are a little blurry, I didn't notice until I uploaded. :-[
The Photographer:
"Oh, a giraffe! I wanna see!"
"No, wait kids! We have to get a picture of you seeing the giraffe! Look amazed like you did when you first saw it."
"Ok, turn around and smile! I need pics of our day at the zoo to post on facebook!"
The Rusher:
"Look, mom! A giraffe!"
"Yes, it beautiful, sweetie. Let's go now, we need to hurry if we're going to see the whole zoo before soccer practice!"
The Shouters:
"This is so peaceful, isn't it?"
"LOOK!!!!! IT'S A GIRAFFE!!!!!!"
"HEY GIRAFFE!!!! COME BACK!!!!"
"STOP YELLING!!!!"
The Gabber:
"Look mom! What a pretty giraffe!"
"Can't you see I'm on the phone!? Don't interrupt!"
"Anyway, so then I told her that he had said...."
*sigh*
The Educators:
"Now, who can tell me where giraffes live?"
"Mom, can we go look at the elephants now?"
"Hold on, you need to finish learning about a giraffe's natural habitat first! Then we can go learn how much an elephant weighs and what it eats and....."
The Idiots:
"The sign said that giraffes only live in Africa, but that can't be right, there's some right here!"
"I know, who writes these signs? They had the big black cats labeled as jaguars, too, and everyone knows those are black panthers!"
The Complainers:
"Good grief, why couldn't they make these exhibits closer together so we don't have to walk so far?"
"I know, and if they would make these exhibits smaller, maybe we could get a closer look at more of the animals!"
"Mom, I'm thirsty."
"What have I told you about that constant whining? You sound just like your dad!"
The Activist:
"Oh my goodness! It's terrible how they keep these animals in cages!"
"I mean, look how tiny it is!"
"They can't possibly have any kind of natural lives here!"
"I wish someone would just come set all these animals free! They can take care of themselves!"
The Bad Disciplinarian:
"Billy, get down from there! I mean it!"
"Billy, I told you to get off that railing! One.... twooooo..... Jeffrey, STOP YELLING!!!!!"
"Jeffrey, get back here! Billy, how many times am I going to have to count to ten before you listen to me?"
-
:lmao: Oh my god, they are all so true!! That is so funny!!
-

I loved the idiots!
-
Great series, all very true. I think I've been a number of these over the years.
-
Well... it would be hilarious, if not true!
Great pics. Love the ... straps? on the red baby - details please?
-
They're all so true! We have them in Europe as well, exactly the same (and been some, like Tim said)
Hilarious! (and learned some new words)
-
Thanks everyone! I had so much fun planning this one. The one where everyone was yelling really happened to me and chris exactly like that... we were peacefully enjoying a close-up encounter with a giraffe when these kids came running up shouting and the poor giraffes ran and hid. ::) And the idiots too, in front of the jaguar exhibit telling their kids the sign was wrong, because jaguars have spots! I decided it wasn't worth trying to explain that black panthers are black jaguars or leopards. Not as bad as the people who somehow thought that the snow leopard was the tiger's baby.
Tahra, here's the thread about the baby carrier: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=6378.0

Yep, it's a leash! I think those are really great for babies a certain age, safer for them to keep them from getting lost... without hurting their arms having to reach up to hold your hand all day.

Yes, I love people watching. People are so crazy sometimes!

My Mum said she used to put my older sister on one of them because she liked to wander off and it was easier than getting her to keep hold of her hand, it looks like quite a good idea although couldn't speak from personal experience :)
-
Hilarious  And so true, indeed!
We once saw a dad who thought it would be funny to put his toddler on top of the rocks surrounding the lion enclosure. He wasn't holding the kid or anything, it was just walking around up there:

I got nautious just watching, it was a terrifying sight.

the "idiots" are priceless...saw some, maybe relatives of the ones on your pics, two weeks ago at duisburg zoo in front of the koala exhibit explaining their kids that these pandas(!!) only eat bamboo... :o
-
   People kill me with the koala/panda thing! Can't tell you how many times I have heard parents and even teachers teaching kids things that are just wrong.
-
I've never heard of anyone confusing koalas with pandas. Great scenes though, bonniebeth!

   That's really funny! You should get some finches so she can listen to them all the time, and watch them play. ;) Just be sure they're both boys or both girls, or you'll end up with a house full of finches in a very short time!

Wow, great job! they are all so true!
Visiting the zoo, there are always shouters and complainers. Always!
-
Thanks! And yes, I agree, those ones are always there. Along with the idiots.
-
You know who should be on the list? The Glass Pounders. (they might fall under the "idiot" category) I went to the Henry Doorly Zoo here in Omaha a few months ago and all these people were pounding on the glass and the poor gorilla just stared at me with this look like "this is horrible, help!" There usually pounding on the glass about a foot away from the sign that says not too.
-
Oh, I'm so jealous, I want to go to that zoo so bad! But yeah, there's always some idiot who thinks pounding the glass, yelling, whistling, whatever, is going to make the animal do something interesting. ::) Just leave them alone and enjoy watching their natural behaviours!
-
Really great idea with showing your experiences at the zoo through playmobil. We have also seen all of the examples at our SF zoo when we volunteered there to help maintain the plants. I have a hard time going to the zoo though for similar reasons you have a hard time with the circus :'(
-
Yeah, I think we have totally opposite opinions on that! But I will say that zoos take animals that have been rescued from the circus, not the other way around. ;) Animals don't enjoy the thrill of performing, they do it out of fear of the cruel things the trainers do to them if they make a mistake. :( And if they're not performing, they're in a cage they can hardly move around in. Granted, some zoos are almost as bad, but I don't support roadside zoos. Zoos do train smarter animals like elephants enough to keep them mentally stimulated, but they aren't forced to perform on cue if they aren't in the mood. Also most of the training they put them through is to aid in giving them medical examinations, like training elephants to lift up their feet one at a time to be inspected for sores.
Btw Ras, you really need to see Madagascar 3. It depicts the animals enjoying the "freedom" (yeah right) of circus life instead of being in a zoo. There's also a Russian tiger who's addicted to borscht. :P

I feel the same way about the animals in that particular zoo :'( ... but I have also been to many other zoos where the animals are treated much better ;)
