Title: Border skirmish!
Post by: PlaymoMan on September 09, 2012, 01:43:42
(This photo story is not related to the kingdoms map).

At a small outpost located near the border between the kingdom of Falco and the land of the Vikings, life goes on as usual. The soldiers keep watch while the farmers tend to their crops. But, the soldiers are also prepared as they have heard rumors about Viking raids along the border.
The kingdom's jousting champion, Lord Hadrian, on the king's orders has been inspecting the frontier forts. This outpost is his last stop. He is accompanied by his brother Robin and his page, Althalos.
The Templar and Teutonic knights, Richard and Edward were set to join the Crusades but had decided to stay at the fort for a while longer. They welcomed Hadrian and Robin.
Suddenly, shouting war cries, a band of Vikings, armed to the teeth, burst out of hiding from a nearby forest. The villagers close to the outpost ran away, but the soldiers and knights in the fort stood firm.
One knight, Sir Ronald, was surrounded and knocked to the ground. He slashed and parried each blow but was cut down later as more Vikings arrived.
Lord Hadrian's page, Althalos could not reach the wall in time and was fatally wounded before he could climb into the fort.
Soon, the Vikings had the front wall of the outpost surrounded and ladders were brought forth.

The Vikings soon managed to scale the wall. The soldiers held their ground, but they were outnumbered and pushed back, slowly.
The knights continued to give ground. Now, only Hadrian, Richard, Edward, the captain and two other soldiers remained.
Both sides were tense; waiting to see who would make the first move. Warily, the Viking leader approached the small group of knights.
"You may surrender, and we will spare your lives." he said. "On one condition. That Lord Hadrian is handed over here, unarmed."

The captain bellowed out "NO! The brave knights of Falco never lay down their arms!!"
But, to the surprise of Lord Hadrian and the captain, the two soldiers that remained dropped their weapons. Richard and Edward slowly followed suit, with looks of shame on their faces.
"Ah, I see you have seen reason!" said the Viking leader with an evil grin on his face. The Vikings led Hadrian down the steps.
The Viking leader paused a moment. "And throw in the captain with Hadrian for good measure."
The Vikings rounded up their captives and prepared for the long march back to Viking territory.
They left the ruined fort with Hadrian and the captain as Richard, Edward and the two soldiers looked on with growing dread.

Hmm, that is a sad ending to that fight. :( Hopefully those men left behind will be able to launch a successful rescue!

That night, the Vikings made camp in the mountains.
The captain and Hadrian decided that nighttime was the best time to make an escape.
"But what if the guards are awake and see us?" whispered Hadrian.
"Don't worry, it will be too dark - they won't see us." the captain reassured Hadrian.
That night, under the cover of darkness, the captain and Hadrian made their escape. The snuck past the sleeping guard.
They tiptoed as quietly as possible, but Hadrian stepped on a branch, which snapped.
"Hadrian!!" hissed the captain.
But it was too late. Two guards had already blocked their path of escape, forcing the knights back.
The two knights turned around - more Vikings were approaching.
The knights were rounded up and returned as prisoners, now under the watchful eyes of two guards.
Later that day, the Vikings and their captives continued their journey back to Viking land.

Meanwhile, at the ruined outpost, Richard, Edward and the two soldiers had gathered their arms and armour from the weaponry scattered around the fort.
They planned to return to the king's castle and organize a rescue mission for Hadrian and the captain. They knew that the king would offer them little sympathy, given that they surrendered and placed the jousting champion and veteran knight in the hands of the Vikings. Still, it was worth a try. So, towards the king's castle they travelled, leaving behind the fortlet.

(You probably won't see much of Richard and Edward's side of the story as I need to still get a proper castle. But, I will continue Hadrian's side of the story and you shall see the next bit soon... ;D).

great story so far, maybe you could just design a castle throne room to portray scenes at the castle? A fancy chair and some accesoires and soldiers might be enough to give the impression of a throne room.  :)

Although I'd still recommend getting a nice castle since its so versatile and can be build up in so many ways. If it's steck.

Wonderful story with very nice scenes of the battle, well done.
Many thanks for all these pictures.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind. :)
I would love to get a steck castle, but the chances of getting them down here are pretty slim - the ones on eBay sell for too much. :(

Are you by any chance left handed?

Nope, I'm a righty! :)

Your clickies seem to be left handed though.

And I thought it was just me, in my childhood I did always put the weapon in the left hand, and when I rediscovered playmobil I found most clickies holding items in their left hands still. These days I am even paying attention to it to put it in their right hand since most people seem to have it that way.  :)

Does it really matter? :hmm: I must say I never examine anyone's pics to see which hands the weapons are in, it seems a bit picky to me.

Hmm, I don't know why my klickies are like that. Must be some kind of odd habit! :hmm:

well I see whats going on. those clickies realise they have a shot at world wide fame with you posting their pictures on the internet. So they are just showing off by demonstrating their skills with using weaponry left handed, to show they are talented.  ;)

I have to really concentrate to remember to put things in their right hands. When I'm putting things in their hands, they are facing me, so I tend to use my right hand to put it in their left! I never had even thought about it until someone here pointed it out once.

Personally I find that I'm reasonably ambidextrous but, that  my right hand/arm is probably my stronger so I normally use tools or whatever with my right hand but, I generally tend to give my Klickies something like a shield in their right hand and the sword or whatever in the other hand, never thought about them being right or left handed.

Sometimes I change it for the picture, usually to get a better shot when they are in a certain position.  Templar knight Charles switched hands when he resqued Frederick.

Finally, here we go with the next bit! :)

After leaving behind the ruined outpost, Richard, Edward and the two other soldiers journeyed for two days. As the neared the king's castle, they saw a large number of people up ahead.
"Could it be the Vikings? Could they have captured the royal city?" asked one of the younger soldiers with a worried expression.
The other soldier rolled his eyes. "They couldn't have possibly arrived at the castle yet! They have a baggage train and have to make camp each night. That would slow them down quite a bit. In any case, I hear the sound of flutes and lyres from whoever that group is, not war cries."
A small party of soldiers marched towards them. Richard, Edward and the others felt relieved to see that they wore the armour of the king's army.
"You can stop right there!!" bellowed one of the soldiers to the group returning from the fortlet. "What is your business here?" he demanded.
"We must speak to the king." said Edward. The soldiers glanced at him warily. They seemed like friendlies but the uniforms they wore were dirt smeared and torn.
"You may pass." said the soldier.
The king of Falco, Phillip the third had already noticed the visitors. He had met the crusaders before and he knew they would never betray him. One of the king's guards had his axe held in a defensive posture and was ready to use force with the approaching group is need be.

Sorry about the wait, here comes the next bit... :munch:

"Let them pass." king Phillip told the guard. The two crusaders approached king Phillip and bowed before him, the tips of their swords digging into the dirt.
"Sire, we must speak to you in private. We an important matter to discuss." said Richard and Edward, the crusaders.
The king frowned. "Very well then." he said, motioning for his other guests to leave. "What must you tell me?" asked the king.
The two crusaders swallowed nervously before talking. Edward began. "The outpost we were stationed at, along the border, was attacked by Vikings. We fought them, but they had superior numbers. Soon, only me, Richard, Lord Hadrian, a captain and two other soldiers remained."
"What did you do?" asked the king.
Richard and Edward exchanged looks of shame. "The Viking leaders gave us a choice, either we hand over Lord Hadrian and live, or fight to the death."
"I presume you fought to the death?" said the king.
Edward paused. "No, sire. We surrendered." He couldn't bring himself to look at the king. "We didn't have a choice."
"Of course you did have a choice!!!" the king exploded. "Where is the honour in surrendering?!"
The two crusaders didn't say a word.
The king collected himself. "I cannot provide any men for a rescue mission, yet Lord Hadrian must be rescued..." the king's mouth spread into a cruel grin. "Since you two are of no use to me right now, you two will retrieve Lord Hadrian from the Vikings!"
"But, sire..." the two crusaders were shocked.
