Hello
I've made 2 versions of the famous french king Louis XIV (°1638 and +1715), also know as "Louis the Great" or "The Sun King" in English ("Roi-Soleil" in French).
The reason for 2 versions (sofar), is that there are many paintings and drawings of Louis XIV and he is almost everytime depicted differently.
Here come the pics and some explanation...
-
Version A:
The figure is based on a nobleman I made a while ago, and I re-equpped him with the trousers from the German "Bamberger Reiter" (set 4739). I thought the goldcolour of these kneetrousers match well with the goldprints of his torso. The white stockings are original, but I've painted the goldcoloured shoes in black.
To the tricorne-hat I've added an additional feather, as tricorne-hats in the 17th century were equpped with lots of feathers. That (2nd) feather is not glued to the hat, but attached with a substance that sticks very well but which allows removing the feather (& substance) again when necessary.

Version A - backview
As in the first half of Louix XIV's reign, wigs as often seen worn by noblemen in the 18th century were not yet fashionable, I gave him an imo suitable hairpiece from a female princess, as in that era noblemen used to wair their hair long and often curled.

Version B
This version of Louix XIV is based on a Louis XXI-custom (a fictional king), which I've shown some time ago. He has now white kneetrousers instead of darkblue ones, and the same tricorne-hat with 2 feathers as with Version A.
The long-hair wig was not possible with this one, as I wanted to have him keep his royal blue cape (with raised collar at the back)...

Both look magnificent, Erwin! I can't choose a favorite, but both look so regal and historically correct! :wow: :wow:
-
Magnificent! Love the long hair, too.
-
Both of them are superb, but I like the second one the best!!!
-
These customs are both awesome, Hadoque. ;)
-
Great customs. My favourite is the second one.
Many thanks for the pictures.
Friendly George. :)
-
Thanks! :)
It seems the 2nd one is liked best here, on Klickywelt it is vice versa
I acutally might try to alter the 2nd one a bit (regarding the cape), I'd like to give him the long hair too ...

Thanks! :)

I really like both, but overall I prefer the first one. :)

Here are some more pics of the 1st one to enjoy ;D
Pic nr. 1 is almost indentical to the frontview of yesterday, just different lighting-conditions.
Pic nr. 2 : sideview
Pic nr. 3: a view on the back of the 2 hat-feathers

Early this morning, I've updated Louis XIV version-2:
I gave him a white royal cape instead of the darkblue one, and the cape's collar has been "chirugically" cut off, so he is now able to wair the same long hairpiece as Louis XIV version-1.
-
Nice! The white cape fits him better I'd say.
-
Nice customs! They all look great!!
-
love it 8-)
-
They look great! And a wonderful idea to use that sash that way...
-
They all look excellent! Prepare yourself, Hadoque: they may be needing a palace up to their standards pretty soon :)
-
Nice update, Erwin!
-
I think they are both great
Just to be awkward though, from your first pictures, I prefer the 2nd one from the front and the 1st one from the back :)
Having seen the later photos though I can't decide! :eh?:

Excellent customs, Erwin. I prefer the 2nd version but with the long hair but retaining the blue cloak. The version with the white cloak is too white overall.

Thanks folks :)

I'll have to ask "Macgayver" for a suitable roof over their heads; he is building a Playmobil-Versailles !

I thought about that, but I've only 1 such specific darblue cloak with print and I didn't want to customize it, so I decided to go with the white one. It rends the figure indeed quite white, but I've seen some portraits in which he is dressed that way...
