This is great. Nice tunnel.
How big is it overall?
-
Hello Knight Train,
the Dio is 2 Meter x 8 Meter at the Moment. I am working on the last 3 Meters now.The first Tunnel is 2 ,5 Meter long and is about one Meter wide.
Cheers.

Wow! That's an impressive size. I'm guessing that you can have a loop of track so you can actually run the train, rather than it just be a part of the scenery.
-
Are you going to give us a tour of the train going through the tunnel, pleeeeease? Now remember, I asked, pleeeeeease! ;D
-
Of Course Bill ! i promise ! ;)
Yes Knight - the train is on a loop track
-
and the tunnel has little lights build in :-[
-
(http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g334/Skywalker1170/8-6.jpg)
i made some pics with just a little light. together with a sepia filter they turned out really nice. i personally like these a lot. i will try to make more of these in the future.
-
Of Course Bill ! i promise ! ;)
So cool! It's lighted too! A video showing it going through would be awesome too, hint hint! :D
-
this is the plan my friend. this is the plan ;D
-
…the back of the tunnel is open for better viewing...
-
Cool display, mate! ;)
-
Cheers Pynedor !
-
ok i have a pic of the inside of the tunnel…but its just a little preview. it`s not ready….

this is the plan my friend. this is the plan ;D
I like your plan! :yippee:
-
this is the plan my friend. this is the plan ;D
   Awesome diorama!
-
very cool , you use resine for the montains ? (like for aquarium for example ) thanks to share with us !!
-
Awesom diorama, Skywalker!!! Looking forward to the rest of the pics!! This is amazing!!!
-
another great diorama, you always seem to make them look like they could be right from a playmobil catalogue, or from the back of a blue box. :)
-
bonniebeth : Thank You !
gaspodfreud : Merci ! i made a wooden construction. then i build the hills out of polystyrene with a hot cutter. i placed different barbecue charcoals in the hills. those charcoals i prepared with hairspray before. after that i used some modeling cement. then i coloured the hills with 5 different watercolours…. there are also some basic hills for the background which are just made out of polysterene and brown colour.
Wolf : Thank you my friend !
Rhalius : Thanks so much. yes - the old boxes and catalogues are my main inspiration.
:)
-
  Magnificient. That are some great pictures!
-

-
Wonderful new diorama! I am sure it will bring us many of your fantastic photos.
-
Thank you Tim !
-
Great pics! The lighting and backdrop is fantastic!
-
thanks to you ! i have always think it was possibe to make nice things using styrodur or polystyrene , it's possible to had resine you can color like you want after scupting what you want , have a look for example on this http://www.aquarium-atc.fr/index.php?page=Produits&cat_id=90&produitid=390&nopage=3&onload=0
i really prefer a nice place with a beautifull scene like you do than seeing huge quantity of playmobils (just a question of personnal taste)
-
Awesome dio Skywalker! Your pics are amazing as always.
-
Thank you everybody !
gaspodfreud : the styrodur is very light which is also nice. the complete dio is build on wooden plates in the size 1m x 2 m . i can store these plates single so it can be transported or stored. there are other ways to do hills but with a heavy material. i will check out your resin infos. before i don`t forget - i did get the best results with the hot cutter because there are no little pieces left. there is a very good styrodur that is called "puren" absolutely awesome material but very expensive . google it and you will see what you can do with it. i have some plates and will start experimenting when i will work again on the dio, maybe this weekend.
i also prefer szenes with some playmos good arranged and not hundreds on a square meter.except if you are planning a roman army - which i would love to have :)
-
Same here, I prefer scenes with fewer clickies who are doing things. Seeing lots of clickies can be quite impressive, but my gaze simply lingers longer on scenes with less clickies who are busy, trying to see all the little details.
-
Rhalius : i was allways more interested to collect different sets which i liked…and there are a lot - mostly old ones. it`s also the point where you spent your money. i wouldn`t buy 1000 knights and have no budget anymore. i would always prefer to have a variety of themes. especially if you like to do dioramas. i mean if i had the money i would buy huge amounts of different armys because if you want to show an army you can`t have 5 playmos - that would be more a "gang" ;D
-
oh yes your result is very good ! it was a suggestion because i see you use polystyrene . In fact on the link i send you the polystyrene is scupted with a torch or someting hot (like you) and he add resin on it (easy to make the color you want) (it's the same resine like the canoe ) it's very light too . I like your diaporama and ideas .
-
I know what you mean, personly I'd prefer to have each set only once.
For some occasions theres just little of a faction if you have all sets of the theme even, like with the new redcoats for example, or the swan knights. In that case you kind of need extra soldiers. Some factions simply lack balance.
Still, I am not much into wars or such, I prefer the small scale conflicts so my soldiers are usually just used for guard duties. :)
-
A wonderful diorama again!! 8-) 8-)
Like we're used from you allways with the spirit of the old catalogue/box-images
-
What a great setup!
-
Thanks !!!

Excellent diorama. Nothing beats in beauty and perfection the playmobil western train

Thanx George !

Wow, the new pictures are great, Skywalker! :)
-
they truly look exellent, the way the driver holds the whip in that picture gives the illusion of movement. I sure wouldnt want to be the horse or clicky who he is whipping off screen. ;)
Seriously, great work. I bet even Geobra would be impressed by it.
-
sure you're a good photograph !!! and sure this train is the most beautifull !
-
These pictures of your amazing diorama are very beautiful :wow: I was shocked to see how small in reality it was. Your photography skills and photo editing make it look so huge. Great work
Any chance you took some how to pics? When and if the kids become less demanding I would love to make one of these dioramas
-
Ras : i will do some making ofs this weekend. i`m not sure about posting before the dio is ready but i will show pics about how it was done if there is interest. if you have any questions about the modeling parts just ask.

Yes, how did you make every single part
I have so much western stuff now I really want to make a giant diorama. I plan on using real dirt for the base but want to have mountains with tunnels. On the mountain I want spots where trees can be placed and perhaps a wagon trail through a low point. I remember a diorama on playmobored many years ago that was to be in a movie that was very inspirational. I really like how yours turned out and am very curious how hard it is to make. The one thing I want to be able to do is to take it apart for transport. The mountains etc.. need to be self contained. A large train club wants me to show off my sets so I will have a very large space to work with. They rent a huge convention hall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTLQPTp9n2I). Some of the scales are small but they are very impressive dioramas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dea_gKrEDU0)
-
Really nice, scene, Skywalker.
doug
-
Magnificent! Thanks for sharing.
-
thx doug & mwilbury !
Ras : i wouldn`t recomment to do the hills with real dirt. it will be superheavy and will collaps when you transport it. i made a light underconstruction with wood - the rest i descriped before. i answer gaspodfreud. i also have a little making of my rocks in the making of section.
-
It's like the old box art but better !
Ace :brownhair:
-
Wow Ace. That is a big compliment - Thank you !
…i worked on the indian village and gold-digger valley this weekend. the scale and amount of work is huge but also a lot of fun. it looks like i can finish the dio with 4 more working days. i hope i can do it in the next 2 weeks - then i will have more pics.
-
Wow! Another fantastic diorama Sky!
This is the "western year"!! I love it!!!
:wow: :wow:
-
Thx Gaston.
Today i finished half of the indian village and the second tunnel. maybe tomorrow i can finish the work and start doing the big pics :cowboy:
-
This is a great looking diorama so far, Skywalker, and I can't wait to see it completed in its entirety. :cowboy:
-
Almost done ;)

Ah, a film. That sounds interesting. Is it a story in film, like a stop motion one?
-
Pynedor : no , i just filmed the train going in the tunnel…coming out of the tunnel.. i would love to do a stop motion. i have some ideas and with the new dio i might try it out
-

Youtube ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The tressel is great. Using the lookout tower bases to support the track is very ingenious.
Can we get a bigger picture of the whole layout?
-
Knight : the problem is 800 pixels as the widest lenght. i might link up a bigger pic. there are a lot more pics on the way...

The one with the wanted poster in the centre of town is probably my favourite picture so far! It's great. :) You need to share more of the story of this town.

great diorama. you have so many great ideas. I too like the wooden trestle idea, its hard to use playmobil parts for that and you found a doable solution :)9
Your custom built building fits right in with the playmobil ones
ps: I do not know if you ever tried to move fire wood but using a shovel is near impossible. This American steam train used fire wood not coal. The fireman in the engine would have had the scoop to move the embers with in the fire box or ash out. He would have moved the wood by hand, hooked tool or tongs
Please keep the pictures coming :indian: :cowboy:
-
(http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g334/Skywalker1170/13a.jpg)

Ras : Thank you. That`s really interesting - i didn`t know they did not use coal. i have a fireside and surely wouldn`t move the wood with a shovel. good to know for future pics...

looking great
I think your Sharpshooter special drank too much while watching the seductive Molly Brown show, he put his chaps on his arms  :**:
-
Or he's just that cool!
-
This is awesome!!! So many little details, great crafstmanship as always, and a most impressive background!!! The idea for the train bridge is excellent!!!
-
I love these pics! I like the little subtle steam in the coffee break photo. This is such a cool setup, can I come over to your house and play?
-
Sharpeshooter : ooops -
everybody is invited to come and play - i am thinking of building a fridge under the diotable - so while hard working / playing a cold german beer is allways near :)
great you mention the coffee steam ;)
thx !
-
It looks beautifull, the rock formations around the indians and gold seekers is really amazing, thats exactly how it looks on the backbox dioramas. :) Looks like the exact same material.
Looks like a great place to live for western clickies, they all seem quite friendly with each other, no fighting or anything. (quite a few slacking gold seekers though and few that are actually working. ;) )
Carefull with that german beer though, your clickies may look innocent, but they will need beer for that Saloon. If your beer is missing and you see some clickies laying knocked over or smiling just a little bit wider (or when they wear their chaps on their arms. ;) ) you'll know its time to put a lock on that fridge.
-
actually the sharpshooter didn`t expect mollys husband to come home that early...

As promised here is the first film of the diorama :

Sounds like a nice little story to put within the diorama, the sharpshooter running away from that husband, and Molly watching that display in panic.
Great video as well by the way, it shows great new things about the diorama we didnt see in the pics yet. :)
-
Great video! This is such a fantastic setup! :)

Wow. I just saw this... Amazing.
The scenery is, like said a bunch of times, beautiful... Very impressive.
Also loved the watchtowers as support for the brigde.. great idea!

Thanx tahra !

Thanks for the new pictures, Skywalker. I'm amazed at the gorgeous scenery and thoughtful details! :cowboy: :indian:

Thank you Justindo :)
