I think it's white in this set like yours, but I have one in dark grey from a knight's set, where it holds weapons.

This part (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30%2061%202140) indicates they came in purple, but I'm 99% sure that the train set in 3850 was red and yellow with dark blue roofs and smokestack, not purple.

I wonder if #2 could be part of a trolley of some kind - from a medical/hospital set, perhaps?

Uncanny that I was just about to post a picture of no.3 when I saw this- it then led me to find another unidentified part I was about to post a picture of (base of 3659 pavilion). So thanks to Wolf Knight from me too!
