Title: A Thestral for Hogwarts
Post by: skypurr on February 20, 2012, 01:57:16
For my Hogwarts display at Knaresborough I wanted to make a thestral to use in the display.
As a thestral is a skeletal winged horse I decided that the recently released Pegasus was the nearest thing I could use to make one.
It's not quite as scary looking as the thestral in the films, but people seemed to recognise it for what it was supposed to be.

I used the golden coloured pegasus, spray painted it black, then following an illustration of a thestral, I painted in the skeletal markings using a pale grey paint that had a slightly pearlescent finish.
Here's the result...

Love it!! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Great use of the new Pegasus, and the custom paint job is very well done. It will be a nice addition to your display (can't wait to see the pictures for this year)  ;D.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: At least Playmobil death!
@Elaine: this thestral is amazing! You could have chosen the easy way and pretend nothing was pulling the cart to Hogwarts. But you didn't! Congrats you wouldn't have imagined a Thestral different than yours.

wow! great Elaine!

Did you try the dragons wings? I think they have the same type of conector and it would look more like the "real" THESTRAL  ;D
