Title: GAUL SHIELDS
Post by: cowabounga on February 19, 2012, 22:46:26
Hi all!
A request from Wot put in the mood for another batch of Gaul shields. Here are the designs I came up with.
This time I figured I could just show you a .gif image, since I haven't printed them yet.

These are really cool, cowabounga. I've seen a lot of your customs, and they are definitely cool. What sources do you use for heraldry and such? I know a lot of Playmobil's knights have their own unique heraldry, but what source do you use for your more historical ones? I ask because I greatly enjoy studying Medieval European history and am curious to know!  :)

Thanks all!
@Pynedor: I take inspiration from Google images, which often leads me to wiki. I also have a few books on heraldry, most of my designs are historical.
@Cheng: are you sure about both long shields? The white one is very different from the image I used...
Best,
Arnaud

Cool, cool. Well done, your designs are great. I enjoyed looking at your pictures of custom knights in the other threads that you made.

They look great, wonder how they look on actual shields.

Best,

well, this is playmobil and our historical accuraccy is bent somewhat...your 'white one' was kind of bronze and the shape was a little like a fat, curve-less '8' right?
so for me...these beautiful creations of yours are Playmo standards to me(just like our playmo kepis) which we can still immediately identify as gauls shields
...keep them coming Arnaud!

Spot on, my friend! It's the bronze shield I used for the circles. I'm a bit short on inspiration right now, so the next batch won't be before a few weeks I guess. I need to print these first, see how they look IRL, make Jan happy, etc…
