hey eveyone. I have been increasing my PM collection a lot recently and i was wondering what you guys do with all your PM.  I am not a "leave it in the box" sort of person. I want it out where i can see it and put it together! If i had my way, i'd have it all out on display, but I am having a hard time figuring out how to do that. I think my husband is getting tired of it laying everywhere and stepping over it in the floor, etc.

I just wondered what creative ways you guys might display or store your collections!

 thanks
 cyndi

Most of my collection is stored in huge plastic bins, although I also have a fair amount of Playmo on display.

how have you got it displayed?
-
On two Ikea tables. I normally rotate my displays every three months or so. I currently have my city on display.

This is the way I have finally displayed my PCFD collection. I still need a couple of shelves for District 1 though :-[! I have a lot more shelves with other items displayed, & I may show them later.
-
oh yes, show  me more, show me more! thanks...that is awesome!

-
I don't have nearly as much Playmobil as others, but I keep mine in small plastic containers. I store most of my figures (my favourite ones anyway!) in those cases that are made by Playmobil. The ones with trays in them are awesome to keep weapons and equipment separated, but the trayless ones are good for storing them as well!

-
lol uhm yes...i do not have near as much as some of these guys! that's why i still want to display a lot of mine!!!I don't have any in boxes, and i don't have duplicates of things either. at least not yet! :o

-
cool! what are those little things in front of the dragons???

i don't have a playmoroom...and my craft room is FULL! Trying to think of interesting ideas!

those shelves full of PM are fantastic!
-
I have some of mine displayed.... the desk display is taken down now, but the western shelves are still up and have been added to.

Here are some older more varied shelf displays:

I also have my zoo giftshop and Chris's GNC on permanent display, and some klickys in a claw machine:

The rest is all stored away in the playmo-closet, which is in very bad need of some shelves!

And then the rest is stored away in the playmo closet:

where is your zoo and GNC?

-
cool! what are those little things in front of the dragons???

 They are Playmo scorpions.

 Thank you.

The rest of my collection is in my Playmoshed that is air conditioned. The pictures include my PCFD before they were displayed.

The GNC is on top of the desk now, it can be seen here: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=10555.0

And the zoo gift shop is on an end table, it can be seen here: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=9415.0

The rest of the zoo is not on permanent display unfortunately, as it is far too large.

BB, your displays look great, though that giraffe looks like it's about to be lunch to those dragons!

-
ah... boxes boxes everywhere for me  :-\ until i found a good place to set up all my collection   :)

:o I never saw so many firemen!

That's a LOT of them Bill!

Guess everyone knows by now that I'm TRYING to organize mine. The PROCESS goes on... and on, and on...
-
I display mine.      The rest of it is kept in crates underneath the tables.  Although I think I'm very lucky to have this space.

wow! look at all those beautiful houses!!! i have my eyes set on getting one of those eventually. that is a nice display. I suppose i could box up all our books and take over the book cases!!! though that might make our house look a bit like a toy store!

I used to do that... untill it became undoable. Thing is, with the space I have and the playmomountains, just about anything gets undoable  :-[

:o I never saw so many firemen!

That's a LOT of them Bill!

There's a lot to keep track of, which I find myself failing to do a good job of! There are curently 120 structural firefighter figures that have been customized, & each vehicle has a crew of 2 including a driver & vehicle OIC, 14 ambulances with crews of 3, plus the entire brush fire fighting unit of 40, & the new 4821 engines each have operational crews of 4, due to being rescue engines. ;)
-
i keep them in the original boxes - if i have them - and put these boxes in another bigger box. loose material i keep in freezer bags. then i have some wooden boxes with themes like "indians" / "knights" ( loose ) etc.  +  i made some custom wooden boxes for my favourites.

I guess my problem right now is that i want it all out...and i don't have the space....but i don't have so much that i have convinces myself that it is impossible either!

Just wait! The more you hang around with us, the bigger your obsession will grow, & soon closets, cubby holes, under beds, entire rooms, buying storage buildings, plastic bins, mounting shelves will consume you to house your collection!
-
				Yep, it's true! It starts as a couple of big tubs, then you'll clear a whole closet, then you'll find you've outgrown the closet and have to put some of it elsewhere... then you're buying a shed, moving to a bigger house.... it snowballs. 8}

haha yeah, my husband is about to cut off my spending for  a while! like i said, he's tired of having to dodge little plastic people!
-
It's true! My whole attic is full with playmo! Displayed and in boxes!

-
you made those boxes skywalker??? wow those are awesome.

I agree! Those are GREAT... But - besides the fact no klicky would EVER want to get into a box made by ME - that doesn't really work for QUANTITY...

I do love them though.. great for display.. (I also love vikings  )

-

I'll tell you what to do, get a male Klicky dressed in a suit & tie,....type a letter on your computer, & down size it to Klicky size. Make sure it looks in legal format. The letter should have in its contents the statement of the "right to collect", & charges for cleaning, washing clothes, cooking, child care charges itemized for your payment for said services, & anything else you take care of, fold it & put it in the male Klicky's hand, & approach your husband & say this letter is for you, make sure that you give him a magnifying glass, & say "you've been served!" ;)
-
Bill he spoils me rotten and makes all the money....so i really can't complain!

-
We're in the same boat then, cyndi.... my husband makes the money and I spend it on playmobil. ;D But he buys playmobil too, fortunately, so we understand each other. ;)

-
I have most of my collection organized in big plastic bins. I'll need to buy even more storage bins when I take apart the sets that are currently assembled. These are large sets including the school, the suburban house, the new Grand Mansion (5302), the Victorian house (5300), and some smaller sets here and there. So that means several more bins!

Sometimes I want to shed it all! It would be so liberating! But usually, I want to buy even more. (Like last night I finally bought the holiday house and container truck.) It's an addiction for sure!
-
I have the most trouble storing all of the empty boxes (because I never get rid of them). I try to fit the smaller ones inside of the bigger ones, but now they seem to be all over the place. :(

Heat the flaps with a hair dryer to soften the glue, & release them. Then fold the boxes flat, you can bound them together with string.

I was thinking of some way to do that, but I thought I might damage them or something. Thanks for the suggestion! I really need to figure out something to do with them... because I'll only be getting more...

As you warm the flaps, use a butter knife to slide in between the flaps to separate them.

I read an article a little while ago that women (or guys) who stay home and do all the housework if they were charging for their services would be making six figures a year. So unless your husband makes more than that, you can say you make more money so you deserve a bigger Playmobil budget ;D

I displayed as much as possible on shelfs in my office. When I got evicted by my wife i had to move it to a barn and again I chose shelfs. Now I need to empty the barn

tried to use indoor oak shelfs that do not look bad but most of it will not fit. It needs to go to the garage but I want to see it all. I chose to start putting it all in clear plastic boxes

I want to see all my playmo all set up and I think I will start hanging it from the ceiling
-
The width of shelves is always an issue with Playmo.
There's a local recycle-reuse place that has a lot of building materials. I went down and picked up an old two panel closet door. Folded it out and put it on top of 4 low shelf units and it makes a great diorama table with lots of storage underneath. Being for a closet it's hollow core so relatively light to move around and has a nice finish as well. It's 4 feet wide by about 6 feet long.

I like having my stuff out, but I always have to put it away after a bit because it will get too dusty otherwise! And I couldn't have as much stuff as you guys even if I wanted to for lack of space, haha!

-
I agree Tim. The shelf for me needs to be no less than 12 inches. If I have buildings I want it to be no less than 24 inches wide

-
Tim, that's a great idea for a diorama table! It looks good, too, can't tell it's an old door.

-
great ideas guys. love the pics! keep 'em comin!  ;D

-
So in the place we are at now I was able to set up the oak book cases

The living room is the main play area and still needs unpacking, especially the new treasures in the vacuum box  <:>

In our bed room I was only able to get a few rickety ikea shelfs.

In the garage you can see how I am sorting out the stuffed cardboard boxes for the clear tubs.

Only problem is that I seem to be getting more large tubs than I have storage space for - I think all the large rocks I use for Hogwarts are going to have to go in the loft until Kirkbean Exhibition.

Oh and Kirkbean Ken is in the hall ready to welcome any visitors who manage to squeeze into the house!  (for those who don't know him, this is Kirkbean Ken - (http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac300/skypurr/Ken.jpg) )

Those are a LOT of boxes Ras!

(funny, I have vacuum cleaner box full of playmo too... )
-
As you have probably learnt, shelves are your friends!!!
In our new house the design comes with an extra room adjacent to the play room where we would store our ping-pong table.
My parents graciously told me it could be my Playmobil room.
(I think hey were getting a little tired of my ever expanding collection invading their desks around the computer room. ;D)
And when they asked me what I wanted in it I said, "Shelves. Lots and lots of shelves. Cover the walls with shelves."
And I get a good sized display table to go in there as well. :)

My Playmobil are organized into several collections, (Knights, Romans, Napoleonic figures, and a few much smaller collections.)
I will have 1 collection set up on display while my other collections hang out on shelves.
This way I can still play around a lot, but my Playmobil aren't everywhere. :P
-
Can't wait to see pics of the playmoroom, WoT! Sounds really exciting! I can't wait to get my playmoroom. :cloud9:
