Title: "Griffion" knights' men-at-arms.
Post by: Erik on February 11, 2012, 11:44:39
Hi all!
As several members here have already (and truthfully!) pointed out the balance between "knights" and "men-at-arms" or "soldiers" in storebought sets mostly is waaaaaaaaaaaay off, so I've "customized" my own men-at arms for my "Griffion" knights, using parts from the "conquistador" special. The colours on the arms and legs went perfectly with the heraldic colours on the flags and shields, so...
I hope you like them! :)

Excellent work. I always though the ' Griffion' heraldry and colors/ design is one of the very best playmobil has ever created . They should have kept it along with the 3666/3888 heraldry and the yellow dragons  and keep these for the new sets rather than bring new heraldry every 6 months .

I hope you build a massive army of Griffions, i think its worth focusing on one heraldry and build an army of it . Just dont get obsessed with it as some of us have gone down that rabbit hole ...... and there is no coming back

They look great! :)

Now I'm gonna check out the difference between man-at-arms, soldiers etc.

These looks great Erik!! Very clever use of the legs form the latest conquistador special!
You also gave me a chance to look up the definition of the man-at-arm again, which I had forgoten : a medieval cavalryman supplied with heavy arms or a heavily armed and usually mounted soldier.

Very nice cusotms, Erik.

Mediaeval Englsih armies were built around the "lance".  This didn't refer to the weapon but to a military unit.  A lance consisted of a knight and his squire plus 5 or 6 supporters, men-at-arms or archers, for example, or a mixture of these.

Thanks :)  Though I don't think I'll be able to gather that many around each knight..

Nice customs Erik! Now, I've got to show you mine, but they're in a tub (or two), so it won't be today! I used  brown torsos too, I had loads after popping many many Arab warrior specials!  ;D
Best,
Arnaud

Good looking customs, Erik.  I've always liked this heraldry, which is more than I can say for many of Playmobil's heraldic designs.
