Title: what is this thing?
Post by: bootgypsy on February 08, 2012, 18:26:01
I bought a huge lot of stuff and there were a number of lego bits as well as other things that were not PM in there. I have some remaining bits that i have not been able to identify and was wondering if you could help me. The klicky is the last of about 50 that i've had to identify and i can't find him! thanks!

I thought 5 might be a bayonet, but i couldn't figure out how to make it fit on a gun. any suggestions on sets it may have come with so i can look at a photo? also for # 6, is there a set that i can see it with? ( i followed the links but they just took me to a generic collectobil page)

haha i thought i was going nuts! what is so weird is that i have the soldiers the bayonets go with but not a motorcycle or diver in site!!! lol

Those bayonets fit on these rifles: 30 06 0900 - Rifle (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-06-0900)

They slide onto the lower 'prong' as it were, at the front

Keep these bayonets in a safe place - they easily go missing and the ones from the earlier sets are quite hard to come by ;)

ok wow i have this http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3816.htm (http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3816.htm)
3816 set...that explains all those extra guns, the donkey...and a few other items that i didn't even think were PM....a barrel and couple of signs that go on the "tree" which is of course missing! i even have the hat....no feather though  :(

i have most of set 5581...so that must be where the bayonets are from :)

what is a "sprues"????

They are those plastic surrounds that you pop the parts out from. Excess from the moulding process :)

Trash!! I cut those gold sprues up into smaller pieces and use them as filler in treasure chests.
I have doubts 3 and 4 are Playmobil. 4 may be a plate of some sort but the only clear pink I know for certain has scalloped edges

That's a really good idea, Tim! About using the gold sprues as treasure.

haha! I was wondering about the plate. i have a few of the scalloped edge ones, but wasn't sure about this.  I was wondering if that little yellow "mound" might be some sort of food for an animal or something???

I was about to toss the "gold mine" and "ghost town" signs because i didn't think they were PM until you guys figured out my klicky and donkey set! whew....nice save!

I make it a rule never to toss away anything I get in a mixed lot, because you can never be sure it might have a use later, or turn out to be some obscure piece of PM anyway. And you can get a LOT of junk mixed in with Playmobil (Sylvanian stuff can work well with PM though)!

The only exceptions to my 'keep don't toss' rule is any part marked:
a) Made in China (definitely won't be Playmobil!)
b) Duplo or L**o (put it in the children's boxes of these toys)
c) Macdonalds

Of course, not all PM parts have a distinctive logo or part number on them, but you can be fairly confident it isn't PM if its made of very poor quality plastic, especially if it has those spare bits of plastic where the mold parts join.
