Things have gotten somewhat out of control, so my new year's resolution was to inventory and organize all the playmobil that scattered about. I bought some 36 inch wide x 72 inch tall wire racks and put wheels on them, so they can be moved. Here's my first effort:

Lots of trains and tracks :)

OOooh, so many nice trains. I would love to see a closer view of the box side immediately under the house in the second photo, looks great
-
so many boxes... drool... are they still sealed (please don't tell me that klickies are trapped in dark, lonely places)

:o :o :o
Awesome collection, Knight Train! Argh, I'm very jealous right now...
-
Magnificent collection, & great storage solutions! Many collectors here will become very jealous of those rare items in your care!
-
Most of the boxes have been opened, but the sets are kept together (as best as possible). The boxes of specials are unopend (mostly).

Looks great, Knight Train! You have some excellent items in your collection. I love those metal shelves - I have a bunch of them in my attic. What a great idea, though, to add the casters for mobility!
A question - do you have a particular method for maintaining an inventory list? An excel file, perhaps, or some other software? I am about to re-inventory my stuff so I'd love to hear more about what other folks do to keep track of everything (especially loose bits.) :)

Excellent organisation, and a very interesting collection :lens: Thanks for sharing!!!

A question - do you have a particular method for maintaining an inventory list?
I use an excel spreadsheet that has columns for set number, location (bedroom closet, attic, garage...), condition, completeness.
For example:
3666 | no box | bedroom closet | no klickys, 99% complete
3790 | no box | bedroom closet | no accessories, in box with 3935, 3041
3730 | no box | garage | in plastic bag
5788 | NIB | bedroom closet |
The I use playmodb.org to create a list of sets by location.
http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl)
which gives us something like this:
http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=3666%0D%0A3790%0D%0A3730%0D%0A5788 (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=3666%0D%0A3790%0D%0A3730%0D%0A5788)

Great collection! Always nice to see other collectors collections and storage and display rooms.

I'm jealous !!!
I wish I had the "luxury" of time to organize my "collection" as well ;)
-
oh wow, 10 different trains!
you have two christmas trains? :o  if you ever want to sell one let me know ;D
-
That looks like a great system of organization! :)9

Lovely collection! Got any layout?

Lovely collection! Got any layout?
I'm trying to clean up one of the basement storage areas to put up an 8 foot by 8 foot layout. If I can move enough stuff, I might be able to get 8 foot by 12 foot, but that would pretty much fill the room, with less than 2 foot between the layout and the walls.
