Title: PCFD Station 13 takes delivery of their off road heavy haulers.
Post by: Bill Blackhurst on January 29, 2012, 04:52:45
Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I've done any Playmobil City Fire Department photo stories, or custom vehicle stories, well at last I'm doing one. The wizard's & crews at Playmobil City Emergency Apparatus Repair Division have been working on 3 all wheel drive low loader heavy haulers that started out as standard 3935 construction equipment haulers. The trucks are assigned to Playmobil City Fire Department District 1 Station 3 where all of the other forest firefighting equipment is stationed. These trucks will transport the tracked brush units B1, B2, B3 to any regions that they are needed in. The trucks have been outfitted with front cab guards, 80,000 pound capacity cable winches, door window protectors, & custom stripes to match PCFD water tankers, T1 & T2. In addition to being all wheel drive, they are also capable of being used to shuttle water tankers as needed for refilling exchanges which means they are double duty on a fire scene. I hope you like these new trucks.

Oh, it's great to see the heavy haulers at last! They look really fantastic.

I know a lot of work has gone into these customs. Great job! Station 3 is definitely going to be ready and waiting for a nice forest fire photo story. ;D

Those are beautiful designs! Although I don't know much about fire-fighting equiptment like this, the care and detail you added make it look just perfect !

Great looking trucks!
I wonder about water moving though - what about those big rubber bladders you see on flatbed trucks sometimes moving liquids? Seems like it would be more efficient use of the truck to put one of those on the trailer rather than pull the small tank?
http://www.huskyportable.com/bladder-tanks_id46.html (http://www.huskyportable.com/bladder-tanks_id46.html) actually - these look a lot like 30 88 3720 - Jump crash mat (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-88-3720) - Would it fit on the big trailer I wonder?

Thank you Tim, for your positive assessment! I thought about those tanks too! It was also an issue thinking about tight turning radius's in accessing water supplies in remote territories with limited turn around spaces. The small tanker can be disconnected & manipulated by personnel instead of the super large low loader trailer which could be prone to causing traffic jambs. However I haven't given up on the idea yet ;)! The second issue is finding some of the 30 88 3720 air mattresses on eBay, in good condition :-\. They seem so expensive & rare lately.

Very nice job, Bill! I wouldn't have thought how versatile those trucks are.
