Title: New Specials Plus line
Post by: playmofire on January 23, 2012, 21:15:51
Nick on Laughing Giraffe (not Mad Nick) has picked up on Klickywelt the fact there is a new Specials line called Specials Plus.  Here's a link to a shop with them (and all the new 2012 PM).  Click on the pictures for larger versions of them and extra ones.

Yes, I love all these new specials plus. Some nice new parts in there... like the archer's target, the balloon that is actually balloon-shaped, and the new sheep.

Some really cool stuff in that line! Thanks for the link. :)9

I suppose it's unlikely they'll include parts sheets with all of them though. *sigh*
Would love to know the number of that round pizza and its box! :)

Oh, right, those are Specials Plus ...

It actually occurred to me that they brought more than usually Special do. (Specials are usually only a klicky, and these bring lots of accessories. Special "plus" accessories ::) )

Right.

That feels a little like the "1 klicky" sets, in the original 80s playmo. Only, then, the idea was to make sets of 1, 5 and more klickys, so that we'd find the same klicky in a small set, or all of them in bigger ones, which was great for poor people who couldn't aford the bigger ones. (We could have even the klickies of big sets, without buying the big set, which doesn't occur anymore :-[ ) Those were good times ...

[(Including attachment of the ones I hope to get: 4762, 4768 and 4769. I don't like the knight, but the accessories are cool. And I must also comment that the colous of the archer are awful! Hat shoult be different colour, specially the feather, I have loads of yellow feathers of those!, I wish it were white or red, and shades of brown in his garment would be prefered too :hmm: )

Now, this is weird: 4768 and 4769 aren't in the Playmobil.De site. Where are they?? Also, it's a little awkward that the site doens't make any slight difference between Specials and Specials Plus ...]

I don't see LOTS of accessories here. Is it just me? I mean, if you look at the archer, there's only the target and the arrow holder thingy, and that's it? And how much will they cost more than the old specials? I don't see myself buying too many of these. And I agree with Gustavo, I'd rather have sets with more klickies and less accessories, for the same-ish price. There's only so many targets I will ever need, after all.

I think there are enough accessories actually looking at the medieval sets. The archer is superb and the green knight the practice doll looks pretty cool imo though more farm oriented if you ask me but neverminds. I really like all three of them , especially the barbarian and the archer and the knight ( opps thats all three of them... ) i just dont liek at all that stupid looking ceremonial like axe the knight has , looks awfull  :hmm: :hmm:

I don't like the helmet on the practice dummy, either. It's one of the ugliest helmets ever produced by PM ... and I suspect they have a huge amount that they want to get rid of. They included it here, and in the crusaders blister pack, too.

Either way, not a patch on the 3668 knights training set  ;)

We thought the Red Knight looked one of the knnnnniggghts in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (the ones who say "Ni!" perhaps). Showing my age here? Its rather weird but has a nice tool stand from the Victorian kitchen. Perhaps he's a butcher in his spare time?

Me too! This set with the completely new accessories and the other pizza chef in the Fi?ures range leads me to wonder if we might soon be getting a pizza parlour in the City Life theme... 8-)

I just spotted his rolled up/cuffed sleeves. Is that a new arm mold? I'm a bit out of touch on such things. :-[

Well, it isn't a case ... ;D

And they aren't like a common Special. If you take 4670 for instance, or 4672 (both attached), those are common Specials all right: a klicky, & that's it.

I have use for it. Not the best helmet indeed though all right ... Maybe fit for a dummy ::)

Don't give me ideas!

I think the red knight is the closet we gonna get to something like an elite emperor guard as in star wars - for some reason the color of these weird knights reminds me of the guards of Emperor Palpatine, and it hat respect they can be very handy indeed .

Playmobil Special PLUS are called before of the very extra accesories they have right ? whats the point of arguing if they have accesories ? sounds a bit nonsense this argument, these are specials with extra accesories by definition and price

Well, you certainly get more than with a Special, although it varies from one Special Plus to another.  As for how much more they will cost, they are an extra 60 euro cents.

Yes, yes ... it's true. But ... ( a big but for me), it's not necessarily extras I want or need :) In the old days I could buy 10 or 15 specials for army-building, because the price was reasonable, but now, at +60cents a pop, I don't think I'll do it.

But that plus 60 cents is only for the Special Plus; if "normal" Specials continue to be produced, you can still build your forces up with them.

It was said that the classic specials range would be discontinued.

I don't see what the problem is, here.

Boys love building armies ... it's what they do and what they've been doing for decades! Unfortunately there are no sets that make it easier to build armies, and I cannot understand why! If you take a look at the new redcoats, for example, you get most of the klickies in expensive sets ... and the single redcoat with the cannon is still too expensive for army building purposes. Obviously there is DS, but DS is known only to fans. People who pop into a shop rarely know about DS.

Is it so difficult to have a set - a normal, shop-sold set - containing for eg 5 red coats and their commander, like the old one from the early 90s? They would be a bit like Lego Star Wars battlepacks, even though with those, now, they have introduced the concept of 'conflict in a box', meaning that you dont get a set containing for eg 4 stormtroppers and another set containing 4 rebel soldiers, but one set containing 2 troopers and two rebels. The idea being that children wouldnt need to buy two sets to recreate a battle.

It has been around for 2 years or a bit longer, f.e. in the Safari theme. (though I'm not sure the rolled-up sleeve came in white before like with this pizza-baker).

It would be nice if they would also produce this rolled-up sleeve without the modern-style button on the side; then it would also be quite suitable for klickies from historical themes (like the torn-sleeve for pirates, the wide-short-sleeve for Egyptians, pirates, etc.)

Add-ons are the way to build up armies, that's part of what those series are for.
I like most of the plus ones and think the archer will be the hot and difficult to get one.

My turn!
First, thanks Gordon, for the link!
I like the knight at training. The green lion crest will look awesome on Gilbert de Lannoy (golden fleece knight). Plus, he has this new collar that looks great, and makes a change from the romans' and the chain mail collars. The dummy…well, I'm not going to use it. So, a simple Special would have been enough for me.
I'm not that thrilled about the archer. Might get the pizzaiolo for my daughter.
A.

That would be fine ... if Add-ons were easily obtained at TRU etc. But they're not! I like the pirate, for all it's worth.

I don't think that sword is "new". Actually, all the recently produced sets have this sword. It's just the old sword on which they removed the second handguard (the one that curved towards the hand and made impossible for a knight with arm greaves to hold it properly. I quite like it. The next egg knight actually carries two new swords, with red and silver handles, though we can't know about the blades, since he has them on his back...
Best,
Arnaud

??? while trying to update my pirates database i can't see what makes this new 4767 a "plus".
:lens: if you compare it with the "normal" 4753, the number of extras is the same: 1 figure + 5 extras.
the "plus" has 1 sword, 1 rifle, 1 pack of coins, 1 trunk, 1 monkey.
the "normal" has 1 sword, 1 pistol, 1 pack of coins, 1 trunk, 1 bag.
:hmm: maybe this is just a marketing strategy.
 as far as i see it the only "plus" is on good-looks.

Well, it is a bigger, nicer chest, plus he has a feather in his hat, a nicer hat with printing, a long coat, and cuffs, so he is just overall nicer and more expensive-looking, IMO.

Of course it's a mere marketing strategy.  Why pay 5 dollars for a special when you can pay 3 for a mystery figure?  I am sure the specials sales dropped dramatically.

In the eyes of parents (and discerning adults) where is the best value?

So, slap the "Plus" logo on, make the box a bit bigger and put in an accessory and raise the price slightly and 'voila'!  Profit.

I know Playmobil goes by weight for pricing of items so I am sure that is how they help determine this value.

Is that really the case? The Bronze Knights didn't weigh much more than specials, and they were overpriced comparatively. The Egyptian sets also seemed more expensive to me. :(

Well, DS orders.  I am sure they calculate box size as well into the factor to take into account shipping charges.  (I am still amazed at the COLOSSAL waste of the 3030 box compared to the contents!)

I think I saw a budget bin of playmobil recently with one wolf knight in it quite a lot, the one with a brown beard and an open helmet. He was 3 euros instead of 8.

Still didnt get the guy though, would be another faction and I already have plenty of factions. Same store also sold a superset of dragon knights for 6 euros. I am sad to say that even for that price I would not buy it since it comes with a hideous large rock formation in a useless shape.

Come to think of it, those wolf knights pretty much resemble the special plus idea. They have just as much content, aside from the guy with the catapult.

Unfortunately, that does seem like it could be true. I'd hate to see them be priced as highly as the Bronze Knights...
