Title: Safari
Post by: conniefrere on December 29, 2011, 18:26:04
It seems that I've gotten an urge to buy playmo animals. It started when I saw the old safari theme with the tent and the jeep with the guy on the roof, the bedouines etc.. I checked playmobil.nl and saw the new safari theme and decided to buy the hyena's!

Now I've ordered the complete theme and somewhere next week i think I will make a sort of diorama. I'll have to wait for the sets to arrive, because of the holidays  :( :( :( I did not count to that. I hope it will arrive somewhere next week.

For now I can show my other buy, it's a safariset made for the USA the 5922. (I assume it's for the US market, not sure) I bought it at a Dutch store were they mainly sell household stuff.

More will follow shortly and hopefully end-up in a nice diorama. (Will be my first one and will probably look more as an overview)

I got that 5922 not long ago, and I just LOVE it! I think it's awesome that it has the old kind of acacia tree in it. Congrats on your purchase. The safari theme is such an exciting theme... buffalo and hyenas and ostriches, oh my!

That was our first playmotree... in... 84? I think so...

When I was assembling the tree it felt quite odd, the leaves were different form the other acacia's (new ones). Ooh I just can't wait for the other sets to arrive. I made some room already and some custom klicky's as characters in the picture later on.

Same here. That was my first tree, I mean. I wasn't born in '84.

Honestly the new acacias are nicer, but I am sentimentally attached to this old style!

Yeah, that is the case with many of the parts... newer versions are actually better, but the old ones have a certain... charm.

Never had the accacia when I was young but I totally get the picture. Sentimental charm.

The jeep also has some "sentimental charm" it resembles the old color it yourself one 3679 (http://playmodb.org/setpics/3679.jpg)

I love that zebra stripe jeep. I got it from the older German exclusive set 4081. It was a similar but larger version with more landscape pieces and 4 of the acacia trees. The whole Safari theme is great new and old. Be sure to check the add-ons if you want larger herds of some of the animals. A number of the African animal add-ons are discontinued after only a couple of years. Actually checking just now it looks like all of them are gone off the German site except the rhinos and elephants. The gazelle add-on is gone from the US site now as well.

Yes!!!! My order arrived all beautiful safari thingies, and some egyptian soldiers for another thread. I'm gonna try to make a nice photoshoot of it when it's all set-up.

Problem is the lack of space available, probably have to remove the Egyptians. (Story of Merineith has to wait)

The jeep is a little customised. I trsnsfered the backseats of the "giraffe" jeep to the "zebra" jeep. I thought a safari trip must be in a zebra jeep.  :D

your clickies sure like animals, they seem especially fond of zebra's.  :)

One guy risks his life to film a horde of zebra's, and two clickies petting the little zebra.

@Skypurr: You should just open them!  ;) ;D

@kaethe: the stream is defenitely one of my favorites can be used in all other kinds of dioramas too!

Looking through these awesome pictures just makes me want the safari sets now! I just finished acquiring all the old Forest theme sets. Was lucky that I was able to find them all at retail price. At first I was thinking I'd be modest with the Safari sets, just pick-up the "decontented" Jeep (5904) and safari station (5907) from Toys R Us so I can just have a taste of the theme without spending a fortune, but now, not so sure! It's not in the German 2012 catalog, so looks like this theme is on the way out of the U.S. after this year.
