Who knows her?
« on: May 18, 2008, 19:24:13 »
I know she and the helmet are from Playpeople. But are these two meant to go together???
Who can tell me some more about her.
... and then dusk came and brought despair.

Her body is the same colour as the Playpeople British Policeman figure, but as far as I know female officers never wore that style of helmet. It's more likely that she came with a peaked cap originally.

On page 386 of the Playmobil Collector (2nd edition) there is a Playpeople set with a Police Patrol Van #1758.
The pic is quite small but I'm wondering if the figure in the middle might be your female police officer.

If that's the case, she's also wearing the wrong accessory around her neck. ;)

you are so lucky to get that helmet!
Friendship is like peeing on yourself, everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling it brings!

Hello, Bogro ...

Nice looking figure. However, Sylvia is absolutely correct!

Please see the attachment from Playpeople set 1720/1.

This is a scan from the side of the box.

If you would like to see more images from this set, please let me know.

All the best,
Richard

Funny! :P This look a bit like Troll old ones. Only, Troll's playmohands had a shape a bit less well shaped.

But, like these for sure, the eyes & mouth were painted ...

Playmobil evolved for better in some things (most of them, I think).

Shame Playmobil haven't seen fit to reproduce the UK police hats, I'd love to outfit my Police with the correct headwear, though they'd still oddly all be packing metal.

It is a shame, Martin ...

There was a big to do with Marx and Geobra over the Bobbie. Geobra told their UK licensee that new Playmobil was designed in Zirndorf, not in England. And, believe it or not, Geobra made Marx discontinue production of the London Bobbie.

Which was indeed a shame as you can see from the attached pictures. Marx even produced a female Traffic Warden.

All the best,
Richard

Well it all comes down to the contract agreed. If Marx broke contact agreements, then Geobra were quite right to shut them down, but maybe could have handled things a little less "iron hand in the iron glove"-y.

One feels a more confident company would have invited the Marx designers over to Zirndorf and had a meeting to discuss the possibilities, instead of "we didn't think of it so we don't want it".

It was a long time ago in the early days of Playmobil, and it would be nice if the hatchet could be considered buried and Geobra could produce their own line of UK-style police hats etc. Maybe we're not a big enough market to consider.

Hello, Martin ...

Maybe we're (UK) not a big enough market to consider.

Hmmm ... The British Isles NOT big enough ... ???

Wonder how many Eskimos bought Playmobil in 1985 ...

Richard

It would be a great idea for a special, though!
