Title: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Post by: tahra on June 03, 2013, 09:00:17
(to make sure, this refers to the REAL Galactica not that messed up bloated thing they came up with recently!)

Anyways, here are a couple of pics of the cast...

Left to right: Jolly (Tony Swartz), Boomer (Herbert Jefferson Jr), Sheba (Anne Lockhart), Commander Adama (Lorne Greene), Athena (Maren Jensen), Apollo (Richard Hatch), Cassiopeia (Laurette Spang), Starbuck (Dirk Benedict)

And since Colonel Tigh (Terry Carter) didn't wanna appear there, here he is with Adama.

This is probably my first favorite show. Despite its shortcomings by today's standards, it definetely still holds a place in my heart, and the credits music can uplift me just about anytime (the tech whistling that tune was probably the best moment of the "remake").

We had a colonial warrior in the works for... have no idea. Probably over 10 years. But nothing ever came of it...

I actively started to pursue it again more recently.. And this time, we figured what to do from mostly existent parts...

After figuring which legs to use, we initially decided to do at least Apollo and Starbuck (DUH!) and Boomer.... since those were the legs we had. But when buying the matching torsos (the gardener) we figured it was better to get extras - and a female as well, since there's also Sheba (and, after her, Jolly).

We then decided to add Adama, Tigh and Athena. Those dark blue parts are just the PERFECT shade. And then Cassie. We still plan on adding Serina and Boxey. These are not as specific.

Finding torsos (matching the legs) and arms including a woman and a black guy for each "set" did not make it easy at ALL.

Also, we gave up doing Cassie with skirts :(

Main problems (besides the parts!) were the guns/holsters. I had initially planned to use the space guns, with zipties to hold them, but besides that part revealing itself more complicated than I expected (there is less room than I thought under the darn vest!), the guns looked ridiculously HUGE on their sides. So, decided to go for simple modern pistols.

As to the belts, Master Cheng provided. Thank you! Makes them a LOT better. They look awesome! I suppose they could be... straighter... especially on the back - but that's not his fault :-[

Bear in mind my "painting/writing" skills are kinda... well... low.

So, first the warriors:

Jolly, Starbuck, Apollo, Boomer, and Sheba

And the bridge guys, with Cassie:

Athena, Commander Adama, Colonel Tigh and Cassiopeia

More shots...

Starbuck and Apollo

Adama with his children: Athena, Adama, Apollo

Commander Adama and Colonel Tigh

Boomer, Starbuck and Jolly

Starbuck and Cassiopeia

The triangle: Cassiopeia, Starbuck and Athena

Sheba and Apollo

And that's it. For now. As mentioned, Serina and Boxey are missing.

you've been so meticulously collecting those colours! incredible!
those colours are so correct!
and now I have to ask how you attach those holsters!
...well done well done Tahra....you've left nothing (improvement) for me to suggest :P
...did I spot the colonel wearing that 'ugly' hair?

Actually, you know ;)

...did I spot the colonel wearing that 'ugly' hair?

Yes... AMAZING, isn't it? As you know, I kept ONE - had to go hunt it from the jazz band...

A shame the afro hairs aren't... smaller. Those would be PERFECT.

Love it when their craft launch and the Cyclons!!!
Thank you for this blast from the past!

I loved that show when I was a kid.

Most people my age did. They were VERY VERY popular. How many Cylons have you killed?

That is one of my favourite drama series next to The A-Team.

For me, best on the A-Team IS Dirk Benedict! (I love The A-Team series - though things started downhill when Melinda Culea left :(  Then working for that guy killed it)

even down to their hairstyles ;)

LOL - My sister and I refer to those hairpieces as "Apollo's hair" - I mean, if we were able to create his hair in playmobil, we couldn't come up with a more appropriate one! It's so... ON.

Great looking set of figures Tahra. The colors really are just right. There was a show a couple of years ago at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle I went to with Battlestar Galactica props and costumes form both series. Was very interesting. There are just a few photos here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/71879015@N00/sets/72157633902297286/)

Oooh, Buck Rogers!  LOVED that show too!  "Bdbdbdbdbdbd"  Now some Buck Rogers customs would be cool, especially Wilma
I also noticed that dog thing from Battlestar Galactica, I still have that toy from the original line.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Battlestar Galactica so it's a bit confusing but, your figures certainly look the part liking the uniforms you've done  :)

Fortunately, too impossible to consider...  :-[

Oooh, Buck Rogers!  LOVED that show too!  "Bdbdbdbdbdbd"  Now some Buck Rogers customs would be cool, especially Wilma

I loved it too (also have the dvds) - though it aged a lot worse than Galactica - especially that second season. Would love to do a Wilma, Buck, Dr Huer and, of course, Princess Ardala :)

Fantastic ! would advice to also custom paint a playmospace singe seater for a galactica viper  !

Unfortunately, they're NOTHING like vipers... I don't think I could look at it and "see" a viper :(  (and, I'd need FIVE  :-[ )

Please show us a Cylone of the old series...Please

That seems way beyond all my ability - it would require a new head or helmet :(

wow - they really are very good.  Particularly Starbuck and Apollo :)  How about doing the updated version of Galactica as well ;)

I HATED the new series. It should be forbidden to pick a GREAT show, start such a promising series, and then ruin it all with single deities, prophecies, human cylons.... FELGERCARB, I say! So, possibility for customs from that are about.. 0. Sorry  ;)

(there are still a couple of customs missing from Galactica - Serena and Boxey)

Wow, I never watched the series but just the tans and brown colore are so beautiful to me.

If only geobra would make more of them we would have so many nice parts for all themes. Brown is such a neutral timeless color.

Great customs there. They need another show like this. Firefly was sort of similar and now there's Dark Matter but something closer to the aircraft carrier motif of Battlestar is needed.

Yes, Cylons would be hard to do as I think part of their appeal was that they were super shiny with the red eye - "by your command".
They'd need to be chrome to fully do them justice but a custom head would be needed too.

Did you get Blake's 7 back then?

Personally, I don't think Firefly was anything like Galactica, though   - the series was amazing. Stupid is an understatement for the movie (in my defense, I didn't know Whedon is also a sadist).

I could live with plain metal playmocylons... But the heads are a must, so...

Did you get Blake's 7 back then?

Nope. Know the name, and I know Glynis Barber (Makepeace!) was in it.. But never watched it.

Rewatched some Galactica eps - I needed  to do a screenshot for Boxey and Muffy..

Great customs. I love this series.

Now we need a Viper and a Cylone Fighter.

Thank you.. As noted, it would be problematic - and I'd need 5 vipers, right? Since there's 5 Colonial Warriors..

There was a guy on THAT site making some for the original figures.. I wondered if they'd fit a klicky.. but... 250 usd or something like that.. plus our BELOVED (it was from the US).. well... gave that up. Beautiful work though.

A Cylon would require a custom head, so.. unlikely. VERY unlikely.  Oh, we'd need 3 cylons to "man" a fighter, right?  :-\
(Ahsoka was only possible with Master Cowabounga's work)
