Does something like this exist?
I'm after a list of all the names of all the 'characters' in all the series of the mystery fi?ures.
Some are super obvious, but others I would really like to know the official name of them.
-
I do not think there are any "official" names. If geobra gave any names they would get in copyright trouble with say Elvis, Gaga, etc.......they are already right on the edge even with out names. Geobra does not do licensing but tries to skate on as thin ice as possible

aaahhhhh, yes this makes a lot of sense. Fascinating. It also explains why I haven't been able to find a list. Thanks so much.
-
I suppose we could make our own just for our reference here, to make it easier to tell each other what we are looking for. It would have to include pictures of course. If we do make a board just for F?gures, we could sticky it in that board.

I like this idea. ;D
-
I number them according to the intruction leaflet.. and I'm sure we all named them...
It gets hard, cause they all have a pirate, and a pink princess, right?
-
Series 1 has 3 princesses! 8} 'Bird Princess', 'Ice Princess' and 'Pink Princess' (that velvet, *shudder*)!
I also get a bit confused with all the knights. I feel like I need to brush up on my knight categories. And my ninja ones too.
-
Facebook may be the answer here. At least some of the series have been introduced one by one at Facebook by Playmobil. What are they called in the picture names?

I noticed that when introduced on the PCC site the pictures have names too. But I'm not sure if they did for all of the series.
I could compile a list from there - I don't think the names for the first 5 series at least are considered confidential????
-
Were they real names or generic names, mechanic, pop singer, diver, etc....?
-
Just looked at the PCC and the names are fairly generic and some are used in multiple series. But I guess they are the closest thing to "official" names.
Also I don't think they have the first two series - maybe facebook would have them as suggested earlier.
I just put togther the list for Series 3 - they are in the order on the leaflet.
Series 3 (5243/5244)
Men:
1. Knight
2. Asian Fighter
3. Royal Guard
4. Race Driver
5. Pirate
6. Astronaut
7. Jamaican
8. Singer
9. Alien
10. Dwarf
11. Ice Hockey Player
12. Scarecrow
Women:
1. Princess
2. Surfer
3. Indian Princess
4. Pastry Cook
5. Secret Agent
6. Equestrian
7. Crazy Singer
8. Ice Skater
9. Miss Liberty
10. Flamenco Dancer
11. Pregnant Woman
12. Bride
Personally I think they could be approved upon.
-
Miss Liberty. :lol:
We could probably do better. At the very least, we would have to call them "series 3 knight" etc., because some if them are in practically every series.
-
Well, series 6 is out in the open now too. :)
And also, we could get names from looking at the image files, especially on this site (which is awesome!):
http://download.playmobil.com/FunAction/Microsites/FIGURES_5/DE/index.php
Only up to series 5 is there though, but from image files alone I get (e after Umlauted vowels due to the web address, haha):
Series 1:
German -> My translation
Boxer -> Boxer
Burgfraeulein -> Castle Maiden
Drachenritter -> Dragon Knight

Sportskanone -> Sports Champion
Skaterin -> Female Skater
Uncle Sam -> Uncle Sam
Skifahrerin -> Female Skier
Zorro -> Zorro
Steinzeitmama -> Stone Age Mother
After series 1, the images are just listed as jungsX and maedchenX for the boys and girls images, respectively. We could come up with some names easily enough though based on all the discussion we’ve been having over the years or from other “official” images.
Here’s my list though, just from what I remember us talking about. Feel free to edit it however you want. I also have a picture below that I’ve been using to keep track of my own collection. Sorry for the blurred out part. :D I named them left to right, top to bottom, as shown in the picture.

-
Thanks! Putting them all in one page instead of having to search individually as there's so many confusing series
-
Your list is great and I love that site. Thanks for the link!
-
This is fantastic!
One reason I wanted a list is that I have a heap of multiples I will probably end up listing on ebay (or swap when I get my post count up) and I wanted the most likely search term for each figure. But this is also just heaps of fun too.
Oh and guess who laminated all their packets inserts yesterday? :-[

-
Sure thing. I'm glad you guys find it useful.
And nice! Those inserts have good images of the figures, though they are a bit small. I have the picture above in slightly higher resolution but certainly not the best that could be found if we tried to make a better source of Fi?ures information. Images from the website of individual figures would probably be best for that.

We really need that separate sub-forum. ;)
Is there a way of collecting photos files into a common place? Maybe a common photobucket account?

As far as the forum goes, you can attach files to a post, but there is a size limit of 100KB for each file.
-
Mimmablue, what a fantastic idea to laminate them! I may have to do that now.
Pynedor, wow. Thanks for doing all that work, and all the descriptions sound perfect. Except one thing :-[... the Emergency worker/ambulance driver. Paramedics HATE being called ambulance drivers, so maybe we can change it to paramedic. I loved the description "pumpkinhead." :lol:

Sure thing. That's fine with me. And thanks, haha. I liked Pumpkinhead too. :lol:

The rapper is just as much Phy as the lady in the ugly green dress is gaga.
Also where is the flamenco dancer?
There sure are a lot already 8}
-
Also where is the flamenco dancer?
She is in Series 3, number 4 on the insert. :D

Are you talking about Psy? I hadn't even thought of that for the rapper in series 4. He doesn't have a moustache or tattoos, and I don't think he really dresses like that.
And I called the flamenco dancer the Spanish Dancer / Latin Dancer.
If everyone comments on whatever they think we should change or add to the lists of possible alternative names for some of the figures, we can set up a more comprehensive list and individual pictures.
EDIT:
Also, I have all of these individual images ready if we're really going to make a comprehensive list. :P
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/SummonNightz/1_to_6_zps8fbeb5a0.png)
As reference, this is the resolution of each of the individual images. I think this is the best we can do with stock images; I think they look pretty good. The series 6 ones are from the PCC (not club exclusive images though), and they have a bit better resolution right now. When they are added to the website, it will be easy to add matching images for them as well.
Series 1 through 5 resolution:

Awwwweeesome!!! :woohoo: :clap:
Brilliant. When the kids go to sleep I will go through the list and add my opinion/s.
-
Great images pynedor, thank you for your effort on making the lists.
A poster of them all would be great now that I see the way you organized them
-
Wow, to see them all together like that is awesome! Pynedor, the images are great. Thanks!!
Mimmablue, I love that you laminated the inserts. I did that for my son with a Thomas & Friends insert but hadn't thought of doing for myself. I might need too.
Bonniebeth, I like "Miss Liberty" for her too.
I'm am having so much fun with these figures now that I am getting back into Playmobil. While I was away from Playmobil I was still in and out of toy stores a lot for my son, nephew and other gifts and they were the only Playmobil I would let myself buy and I just tossed them in a bag in the back of my closet for later. It's been so much fun opening them all up but now I wish I had bought more. I've been filling in my must haves off ebay but I much prefer buying them unopened at my local toy store for $2.49 - cheaper and more fun.
-
Would you like me to host this at Animobil?
If so maybe it would be good to add actual photos of each with front, side and back shots? Should we include an exploded shot showing all the parts too?
I can put the pages together if someone else would care to supply images.
Also I would call the female rider figure an Equestrienne
-
Pynedor, you have done so much work for this project, thank you! I think hosting a list at Animobil would be a great idea. If you want to keep it simpler, we could just use the stock images, but actual pictures are nice because they sometimes show details that are hard to discern using the official images.
-
I'm not familiar with Animobil, but I assume we could put a link here to the final list so we can easily access it?
I would also be happy with just the stock images... once you finally get the figures in your hands, it's nice to discover some new details you didn't see in the original images/packaging. But it sounds like something we could add to over time.
-
And for what it's worth, my 2 cents on the names of some of the fi?ures:
Series 1 – Girls
Blue Bird Princess
Girl with Stereo/Boombox
Series 2 – Boys
Sliver Knight (I suggest adding a colour as well as a number?)
I have seen the Alp Man/Boy described as ‘Hansel’
Series 2 – Girls
Again, I have seen the girl referred to as ‘Gretal’
Series 3 – Boys
Red & Sliver Knight
Tattooed Pirate
Series 3 – Girls
Ethnic woman/Indian Woman
Series 4 – Girls
Lifesaver (this could be an Australian-only term)
Paramedic
I’ve seen the Camera Girl described as ‘Tourist with Camera’
Series 5 – Boys
Mongolian Archer or Golden Archer
Blue Ninja
Silver Blue Dragon Knight
Red Green Superhero
Series 5 – Girls
Veiled Princess
Pink Maiden
Ethnic Woman with Basket
-
All of the suggestions that you guys have sound good to me. All of the alternative names are nice additions. Especially your Equestrienne, Tiermann! :lol:
I'm not familiar with Animobil, but I assume we could put a link here to the final list so we can easily access it?
Animobil is Tiermann's website. It contains great resources for Playmobil animals and heraldries (amongst other cool things). It's awesome; I'd recommend checking it out.

That's fine with me. I can give you all the stock images, but I don't have nearly close to all of the different figures (or a decent non-film camera). Depending on what you'd want to do, I don't see a problem with having the stock image, actual images from different angles, and an exploded parts view for each figure. The more, the better. :D
I think, for the names, we could maybe have a general name that we all mostly agree on for each figure and then a list of "alternative names" for each (if they each get a page or something on Animobil). Or, we could just have a list of names with no general or alternative differentiation.
Just as another option, I could create a thread with all of the full resolution images along with names and any other information for each figure. The only thing that can get tricky with that is editing it when new series become public. This could be as simple as adding more posts, but if people were to respond and cause discussion in the thread, it can get cluttered. I'm sure that a moderator could take care of that, but it would probably be easier if Tiermann set up a comprehensive database on Animobil. I don't think Sylvia would incorporate something like that here.
-
I do have all or most of the F?gures, I think, except possibly some from series 2. However, many of them have been taken apart, changed, or re-accessorized, and I'm not sure I could find all their parts. :-\ I'd be willing to help out with pictures of some of them, though.
-
Maybe we start with just the stock images and set it all up, then delegate who has which figures to take the other photos?
I'm sure between all of use we will have the 120 figures covered. ;D
-
OK, here you go.
Fi?ures Series Pages at Animobil/Shields (http://www.animobil.info/shields/text/5d0863aa%28shields%29-915.html)
There's an image list on each series page, and each Fig has it's own page with some details about it. Just the stock pics so far, thanks Pynedor.
-
Awesome, Tiermann. That looks fantastic! It should be a cool reference for people. :)
And nice job adding the copyrights. :lol:
-
Looks fantastic, Tim!

This is amazing!!!! So helpful.

Great! Thank you.

That is great Tiermann!!! Thank you.
-
Thank you so much! That will be so useful!

As this has been stickied, maybe the mods could edit the first post and add the link to the listing there? Rather than new people having to rad through pages to find out what we ended up with?
Also if anyone has a different name for a figure that you believe is commonly used and isn't on the figure's page please let me know so I can add it.
-
Also if anyone has a different name for a figure that you believe is commonly used and isn't on the figure's page please let me know so I can add it.
The only things I would add or change are:
Girl Series Three 6 - Groom: I would maybe change the first name to Stablehand or Equestrienne 2, only because Groom doesn't really have a feminine equivalent.
Girl Series Six 11 - Scorceress: There's an extra c there, so just fix the typo to Sorceress, and as an extra name, Meleficent should be Maleficent. ;D
Other than those, everything looks great!

The Figures Pages at Animobil (http://www.animobil.info/shields/text/5d0863aa%28shields%29-915.html) have been updated with multiple images including exploded views for everything through series 5. There are multiple views of each figure showing the complete one as well as the basic klicky for each, and the exploded view showing all parts in each. Series 6 will be added when it finally shows up here.
-
Tim, as usual your photos are excellent and also a wonderful resource! :love: Your photos are always so consistently well-lit and the colors seem very true - is there any chance you could give us some insight into your process? Do you use a light box? What do you use for the background? I don't even know what other questions to ask. :-[
-
I'd find that very interesting too :)
Thank you so much for all the time and effort.
-

Same here, Tim!
Thanks, my friend! :)

Thank you very much!
This makes me want to have more of them. You're professional pictures show them better than I've ever seen.

Thanks everybody, I will do a little post in the How To forum about my photo area this weekend. It's pretty simple.

Simple for you, maybe! ;) But thanks, Tim - I definitely look forward to seeing your "How To" post.

sorry if my question sounds like I've just come out from a long hibernation :P
...are there instruction leaflets for every series?
and are there set numbers for every series? (I know only 5157, 5158, 5284 & 5285)
-
Yes and yes. I will look through my instructions box for them and add the set numbers to the info on the site with the next update.
