WJT - Top 16 Single Elimination matches
« on: January 22, 2011, 20:41:42 »
On this new day we have the first round of elimination matches. Some of the eliminated combatants have taken place in the crowd cheering on their fellow jousters.

There have been rumours of dissent amongst some of the competitors so Sir Merriadoc and Crown Prince Tobias have taken up post in front of the king’s stand. When Sir Alarch heard about this plan, he managed to convince his son, Sir Cygnet, to join.

The first bout of the day is between Sir Jaknoi of Gacim and Sir Seamus Flynn:

As they clash for the first time, Sir Seamus gets inside of Sir Jaknoi’s shield and hits him full on the body. Sir Jaknoi makes a desperate attempt but fails to hit anything.

Sir Jaknoi: 0 points
Sir Seamus: 2 points

On the second run Sir Jaknoi succesfully manages to get Sir Seamus’ shield out of the way and hit him full on his body. However his shield also gets hit! Sir Seamus wins the match and advances to the Quarterfinal!

In the next match we have Sir Wolfram facing Sir Fergus McAngus. Every round Sir Fergus wins gets him closer to his love.

Sir Wolfram gets a hit in on Sir Fergus’ shield and twists his shield out of the way just in time.

Sir Wolfram: 1 point
Sir Fergus: 0 points

On the next run the opposite happens from the first run, equalizing the score.

Sir Wolfram: 1 point
Sir Fergus: 1 point

On the Final run Sir Wolfram is able to get another hit on Sir Fergus’ shield. However his shield is slightly too far on the outside and he gets hit in his gut! Sir Fergus wins the match and advances to the Quarter Final

The third match features Sir Sigismund and Aziz bin Tarek.

Sir Sigismund is able to go over Aziz’ shield, however his plan fails as he is not able to hit Aziz’ arm, Aziz on the other hand doesn’t do anything fancy and manages to get a solid hit in on Sir Sigismund’s shield.

Sir Sigismund: 0 points
Aziz: 1 point

On the following run Aziz once again hits Sir Sigismund on the shield however, he gets hit full in the body as his defense is not in place.

Sir Sigismund: 2 points
Aziz 2 points

The next pass sees both champions trying for simple hit on the shield. Both succ4eed which means we have to go for another run.

Sir Sigismund: 3 points
Aziz: 3 points

In the last run we see Aziz dip his shield a bit to go under Sir Sigismund’s lance and he manages to get a hit on his shield as well. Winning him the match and securing a place in the quarterfinal.

This match features Red Eye and Sir Gekko.

On the first round we see both combatants get a shield hit, getting a feel for the opponent and not trying anything fancy.

Red Eye: 1 point
Sir Gekko: 1 point

On the following run we see more faints and moves but the end result is the same as both get a shield hit.

Red Eye: 2 points
Sir Gekko: 2 points

Sir Gekko tries to go for a simple hit straight through the middle whereas Red Eye goes for a high faint. In the end they end up with another shield hit for both.

Red Eye: 3 points
Sir Gekko: 3 points

The next run has another pass where both combatants are trying fancy moves but failing to execute properly and in the end just get a shield hit.

Red Eye: 4 points
Sir Gekko: 4 points

On the final run Sir Gekko manages to hit Red Eye’s shield again but fails to keep his shield of the way of Red Eye’s lance and gets hit full on the body. Red Eye wins and advances to the Quarter Final

In the next battle we see Sir Agnar and Lord Vladimir. Will Sir Agnar eliminate another Golden Dragon Knight?

In the first pass Sir Agnar goes for a high shoulder hit but Lord Vladimir manages to get his shield in place just in time. Getting his defense in place does cost him his attack though.

Sir Agnar: 1 point
Lord Vladimir: 0 points

On the second run Sir Agnar goes for the same strategy. Lord Vladimir is however not easily fooled and manages to get Sir Agnar’s shield out of the way and hit him full in the stomach, lifting him out of this saddle. Lord Vladimir is on to the Quarter Final!

We continue with a match between Sir Bart and JustFred. Yeoman Hank blasts a couple of extra loud notes as encouragement. A snorting sound can be heard from the Guardtower.

The first run sees JustFred hitting Sir Bart on the shield while Sir Bart sees his lance deflected upwards into JustFred’s face.

Sir Bart: 2 points, -1 honour
JustFred: 1 point

On the second run JustFred hits Sir Bart’s shield but is not prepared for the hit that completely lifts him clear of his horse and sends him and a lot of flowers flying. Sir Bart advances to the Quarter Finals.

Here we have Lord Etir and Sir Elric getting ready for their fight. King Aun Kerac can be heard cheering loudly for his champion from one of the pavilions.

Sir Elric hits is able to hit Lord Etir on his shield, Lord Etir is not fully concentrated and misses Sir Elric’s shield by a long way.

Sir Elric: 1 point
Lord Etir: 0 points

In the next run Lord Etir flicks his lance in Sir Elric’s side unbalancing him. Sir Elric’s lance comes into contact with Lord Etir’s horse side and finishes the job as Sir Elric can’t stay on his horse and ends on the field. Lord Etir advances to the Quarter Finals.

In the final match of the round of 16 we see Sir Adler and Sir Christoph taking to the field.

In the first run Sir Adler misses Sir Christoph’s shield because he had his lance aimed slightly high. While Sir Christoph clips Sir Adler’s shield on the bottom tip, putting him ahead in the match.

Sir Adler: 0 points
Sir Christoph: 1 point

Sir Adler keeps the same strategy and is successful this time as he manages to adjust his lance at the last moment and hits Sir Christoph on the helmet.

Sir Adler: 2 points, -1 honour
Sir Christoph: 1 point

On the last run Sir Christoph hit Sir Adler’s shield but it isn’t enough as his defense crumbles and he is hit on his body losing the match. Sir Adler advances to the Quarter Finals!
