Title: 4260 police car
Post by: Wolf Knight on December 18, 2010, 22:06:15
Hi all,

I got this today, along with some other police sets, and wanted to share a few details and thoughts about it:

So here are the box's pics front and back and the contents once you open the box.... Once again, the bigest part of this set, in our case the car itself, is not protected by a bag or something...that could give the hull a few scratch marks...

So we have a set with a lot of accessories bu not a shotgun  ??? I thought shotguns were supposed to be standard issue equipment for a patrol car... maybe this one is only supposed to be a traffic control car, thus the lack of a shotgun...

A nice addition to this set is that the hood can actually be lifted and you can see the engine underneath... the engine is also removable, thus revealing a yellow system x connetor...

But I cannot understand this gap between the flashing lights and the top...the flashing lights are not totally touching the roof  ???

All items can be nicely stored in a box that fits the back for better organisation  ;) I really like this feature!!! Clean and tidy!!

As for the crew, sorry... as much as I love these blue uniforms why on earth would two traffic policemen be wearing ties and such good uniforms? this klickies can fit better at a theme representing a big event, or a place where they are required to be wearing their good uniform...if they are traffic police, where is their yellow coat? And have you noticed that these blue top hats are the only ones in any current police set? You get the option of the white top hats too and thats great, but still...

You beat me to it on this one, Panos, I have been planning a review for some time but not got round to it.

The shotgun may be standard in the USA, but it's not in the UK or, I suspect, many other European countries.

I'll check and see how well the roof light fits on mine; I have actually changed it for one which has only blue lights.

I agree about the lack of high-vis jackets for the crew; I have some spare orange and white tabards from the earlier international police sets I'm going to use.

I think the detailed printing on this is some of the best ever, especially the grille on the bonnet in front of the windscreen.

I will, if you agree, add one or two detail photos later.

Excellent review Panos! I may see myself getting a couple of these for PCPD. BTW, I like the Playmobil figures with the officers wearing ties & blue shirts like in set 3904. They look like NYPD officers!

Thanks for the great review, Panos! I LOVE how you can open the hood and see the engine on this car!!! Chris is gonna  love it, too, I know. That's a nice feature. I wish the doors would really open on playmo vehicles, though. Maybe that will be their next major improvement.

thanks for the review. Are the lights the new (led) type?

I always change the uniforms on my street officers, the only ones with ties are my station/911 call center officers. P)

That will be great Gordon  :) !!! Realy axnious to see your more detailed contributions!!

True, European patrol cars don't have shotguns. I can recall seeing one at the trunk of a greek patrol car, but maybe the officers were part of a special unit or something...

Ah yes!! Love that set!!! Do the actual crewmen of the patrol car wear ties Bill?

I really can't say Chris... maybe they are, the light is quite bright like the weapons in the dragonland theme, so probably yes, they are led.

I'm thinking of customising the street officers too...

Yes Panos, they change their dress uniforms to coincide with weather conditions, but wearing a black shirt, black clip on neck tie, with black leather jacket is very common for NYPD officers.

Panos this is great! I love the comparison with the old police car....they have really improved!
In Argentina all street Policeman were suits and neck tie. Even in summer.... at least in Buenos Aires. I don't know about some other cities up north where it is a lo hotter.
As for the gunshot, I don't think they have one in the car, unless they are going to some special mission. They all carry beltguns.
The uniform here is exactly like the NY Police. Even the furry collar for the winter

If the police have shotguns, you now know how they got the furry collars for their jackets ;)!

Well, here are my contributions to Panos' review and I'm grateful for him allowing me to add them.

First, though, I will say that having looked at the pictures I took, there is the same problem with the roof light not fitting flush.  Maybe, a bit of sanding in the roof opening is the answer.  I wonder if there is a curve in the roof which causes this poor fit?

Now for some photos.

The car is, like the 4223 ambulance car, based on the VW Passat and looks especially smart in the silver and blue police livery.  Playmobil has caught the shape and smooth lines of the original beautifully, as this side view shows:

It also looks good from behind with the back closed (note the POLICE sticker):

and open (note the stickers inside the opening hatch complete with POLICE and warning signs so that these are visible with the hatch open and obscuring the roof light.  I'm planning to stick on blue "jewels" to represent flashing blue lights too):

It also looks good from above:

and from in front:

These last two photos show off the excellent printing of the ventilation grilles on the bonnet.

To go on the rear of the roof light there is a sticker which shows a different message depending at what angle it is viewed.

First, a demonstration on my finger:

POLICE:

then STOP:

Then with the stickers on the car, where it isn't quite so successful with the car at eye level because of the change in angle needed to view the two messages in turn:

POLICE:

STOP

Lastly, there is a sticker to go inside what is usually a lunch box but here is a first aid box:

Thank you for posting these extra pics Gordon with the missing details!!!  :high5:

Its strange how they dicided to put a sticker in the first aid kit and not put the actual parts ... although I am sure they do not fit... ::)

I have some kind of box with the sticker in the bottom to represent tools or something, but I can't think where it's from at the moment.

Those are great pics, very informative. That's so cool how the sticker shows two different words at different angles. Nice little touch.

No, that can’t be… If it were a “traffic vehicle” it would have yellow safety lights (like tow trucks). Maybe it’s a Crime Scene Unit or Suspect Transport vehicle… ???

EDIT: The removable engine block, however, makes I worth it all by itself.;)
