This is my first review, so please bear with me ;D
As a horse lover, I was excited to see these new horse sets. I ordered number 6 in the series to start.

stable assembled
The stable is much more sturdy than I was expecting it to be.

jockey in her silks
I think her goggles got painted on crooked, but oh well. The painted goggles are not my favorite, but I guess the only other option would have been glasses you can remove, which are not my favorite either.

The whole set
I like this set a lot more than I imagined. My daughter has claimed it for her collection, but I plan to order others from this series.

Thanks for the pics.. I love the horsies.. wish it didn't include the "stable thing"...
Just made an order that included that set...
(the woman will go to the snow guys though.. maybe with different legs..)

just for comparisons sake, a couple shots of the various versions of the Playmobil horse through time:

front view
The newest horse has smooth sides, with no groove to accommodate the saddle. This looks really nice, in my opinion. Below is a view of how the new saddle looks on the horse:

The new saddle hugs the horse more than in previous versions.
I like all the horses they've made. The first version is artistic, the second versatile, and this new version looks great.
Hope you enjoyed the review!

Thank you for a very good review, tenni. I hope you'll do more of them.
It's a nice set, although not my theme, and I'm sure it'll prove very popular, especially with the girls.
-
Great review, I have 2 of the others in this series and am planning a review some time soon.
I thought I didn't like the stalls, but that was just until I got them. I really like them in person, they look great and may be very useful in the future for me.
It looks from the 2012 leaked catalog that all of the horses in the future will be more like this series, and the 'New Horses' will now be discontinued like the 'Old Horses' were.
-
Doesn't it seem a waste, to end the old new horses?
And it's a darn shame the saddles don't fit.. IMO, a mistake...
But the horsies are GORGEOUS!
-
Thank you for the picture of all the styles of horse. I thought the latest one was a new design, and now I see it is.
-
Great review, and those new horses look very beautiful.
-
Nice review, great pics.
So should we stop calling them old and new horses and go with horse version 1 or v1, etc...? Or will it be the newest horse, new horse and old horse or original horse...

8} This is getting confusing..

Thanks for the nice eview and I enjoyed the three horse comparison photo - it really demonstrates change over time. I like the phase 3 horses very much.

Not just the girls ;) These newest horses are very suitable for cavalry-charges! :cowboy: :knight:

Thanks for the review and sharing your pics. I love this the most. I bet this one sells the best.
-
Oooh I really like the new horses. I like the fact that there is no saddle hole. I've only got one v.2 horse. When I first saw it I was almost appalled, it looked like it was seriously under fed :-[ (I'm not joking either that was the first thing I thought was starving horse). Obviously they have to be that slim for the playmobil to fit, and once he was all set up with his saddle and armour he (she) looked much better.
I didn't think too much of the pony farm sets, but now hmmmm . . .
-
I love these new ones, but I also love the original version.... they have a certain charm and are so versatile! Would be hard to pick between the first and third for my favorites!
Thanks for the great review, Tenni. The stable looks really great.

Thanks for the review and pics!! I'd love to have a galloping horse guard division

yeah that'd be cool - i like the arab horse because he's pretty suitable for armies, etc imo - that's why i used it as a royal horse in my victorian story
the original horses were ok, but they only suit the old klickies - these new horses are by far my favorite and they match all the new klickies, which are also now more detailed
horses version 2 were always ugly :loco:

I like the old horse. And the second generation horse was no big advance, in my opinion. But the new horse is a good change, I think. It makes the first generation to feel like vintage, like the difference between old klickies and the new ones.
It was a positive change, imo. But there'll always be place for the original playmobil horse in our hearts ;)
I like the fact that they changed the saddles. One of the problems with the horse in the middle was that the change hadn't been complete. Now it's well done. It's a problem that we'll have to get all new horses, all right, but future sets will come, I guess. Looking forward for the new horses in medieval sets (with medieval saddles! :yup: ) (...).

If they had kept the saddles, you could switch them about to your heart's desire... I think that decision SUCKS, bit time....
-
I too like these new horses with their diversity of breeds, colors, and poses. I also look forward to new future horse and tack releases for the historic themes. It's nice to see that the new horses look better without a saddle, not having the indentations, but that will mean all old saddles will not be compatible, which is a big negative. Another negative, for me at least, is that I'm heavily invested in the second generation horses (for my Roman, Egyptian, Knight, and Pirate themes) and somewhat invested in the first generation horses (for my Western theme).
-
that's really cute ;D ;D ;D ;D i like the station too, the women's face is like an alien though :(o): :(o): :(o):

The old saddle was for the old horse. Actually, I think they should have made the saddle change for the second generation horse already. There might not need to be a change for future horses if they had done it by then ...
The problem, of course, is that some will feel they'll have to star all over again. For someone who has 400 horses (or 4ooo ::) ) it must suck all right :(

alien face? what are you talking about? ???
-
what, no "chocolate icecream" accessory?
-
no, not in this set or in any of the new stables...

Well, we're not planning to replace all the horses.. Not only would that cost a fortune (or two) but what would we do with the old ones?
Visually, the old new horse fits fine with these (and we need plenty more)... The first one doesn't... which brings a big problem in some "groups"...
The saddles being differen't is a major pain...

her face looks like an alien (GLASSES) :0 :0 :0 :0

Yeah, I agree, the second version horses can easily be combined with these in set-ups. Their faces and lines are similar enough, they just have different poses and different breeds now. The first version couldn't be combined with the second anyway, so you have to either go with version one, or with two and three. I am debating in my mind which way to go with my western stuff.
-
Thanks for the review; that looks like a cool set. The klicky looks a bit creepy with the goggles, though. ;)

yeah I kinda wish they were real instead of painted

I disagree! But it's a matter of style. I actually used both, in one of my old stories -- which I won't dig up right now ... But there must be a link in the Little Theatre thread, it's the second or third story of Elmo and Fletcher -- and it looked cool in the story.
It was like the old horse were a lesser breed ... (What, in Portuguese we'd call a "pangaré" ... It's something like a mongrel, but for horses, don't know if there's a term like this in English ...) But it's something I created. And I did so because, after so many years without playmobil, by then, I wished deeply to use the old horse that a playmofriend had sent me  So, the new (now 2nd gen.) horse was the rich guy's horse (i.e., Elmo's horse), and the old one was the poor guy's (Fletcher's).
It felt great to do it ;D
