Title: PDFs online at playmobil.com
Post by: sbblabotw on August 13, 2014, 12:20:34
The repository has been added to again: it's up to 1817 sets. Now has the 2014 daycare sets and special vehicles, and more archival sets back to the early 90's.

PlaymoDB List - Official PDFs Made Available 2014-08-13 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=3004,3006,3010,3017,3020,3021,3022,3085,3628,3632,3638,3650,3678,3697,3717,3779,3804,3806,3807,3808,3810,3815,3819,3821,3822,3833,3835,3836,3838,3842,3843,3847,3848,3850,3855,3858,3875,3876,3878,3905,3948,3951,3953,3978,3995,4119,4210,4780,5312,5313,5316,5325,5326,5339,5407,5567,5568,5569,5570,5571,5573,5614,5615,5962,7192,7222,7255,7267,7559;title=Official%20PDFs%20Made%20Available%202014-08-13)

Thanks for the heads-up, Heather!  It's great to see that Playmobil is adding plans for older sets and not just for their new releases.

Some of the instruction sheets are actually scans of paper booklets - you can tell because the paper is a bit crumpled in places.  The classic  3666 Castle  (http://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/3666pdf.pdf?locale=en_GB) is one example of this.  I love the idea that someone is going through these old plans and doing whatever is necessary to put them online for us, especially since everyone but Playmobil is prohibited from showing the actual building plans online.  :)

I do like having such easy access to building plans, especially when checking old sets for missing parts. I wonder when they will stop- how far back will they go?
Its slightly annoying that earlier plans did not always give quantities of parts and even more annoying that they only produced some plans in monochrome.
By the way, 5313 did not link to a pdf of plans (not from PlaymoDB nor from Bauanleitungeen on www.playmobil.de) so I think PM need to check that one!
EDIT I sent a message to webmaster via pm.co.uk re 5313 broken link- let's see if they fix it!

Fantastic! Thanks for the news. I was just looking for these a few days ago. I'm very glad to see that they are up now. :)

I also just realized that they updated a lot of the stock images for parts too (from puzzle pieces to actual images)! This is awesome. :)

Plans for the new supersets and Luxusvilla are now available! Even though they're not searchable from the pull-up menu at the bottom of the Playmobil website, they're linked from the individual set pages there. For your convenience, follow the little blue heads here PlaymoDB List - Supersets, December 2014 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6144,6145,6146,6147;title=Supersets%2C%20December%202014) and here: PlaymoDB List - Modern House Sets Released In 2014 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5574,5575,5576,5577,5578,5579,5582,5583,5584,5585,5586,6354,6389;title=Modern%20House%20Sets%20Released%20In%202014).

I'm keeping an eye out for the plans to the Recycling sets. I believe those are the only ones 2014 releases that appear at playmobil.de but don't have plans, besides specials and small sets not likely to have them.

The crane on the compact construction set could save me a bit of custom work for my railway goods yard.  I'm about to place a DS order, but, as yet, the parts are not showing up as available.

Is there a single list with all 1800+ set numbers available on the playmobil website?

Unfortunately, no.  You can check for a specific set by putting the set number into the Building Instructions window.  You can also leave the set number field blank but hit the space bar - this tells you how many sets are in the database and, after a moment or two, you can scroll through all the thumbnail views - if you have the patience for it.  8}   :)

Here is my list of 1774 sets with building plans currently available on playmobil.com This is already out of date as new plans are being added all the time, but if it's useful to anyone, here it is! All sets with building instructions (pdf)  (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/61286767/Sets%20with%20building%20instructions%20Oct%202014.pdf)

If they are useful, here are PlaymoDB set lists (too many sets for one list, so I have split it according to the first digit of the set number)

Pure slog! I haven't got a fancy bit of software to 'scrape' data, but I did start with a list of the first 900 or so sets.

Dear GrahamB (& Playmofriends here).....your CSV list(thanks again for sharing!) left out 3320, 3328, 3367, 3368, 3980, 3981 & 3982 pdf files which were available from their US website quite long ago. ;)

sorry tigana123;
look for 3996 & 3993 respectively,
maybe its my fault for recording the alternative numbers  :-[

but tigana123, did you find the others I listed above?

sorry everyone, hoping to be helpful, I might have created some anxiety....I manually compared GrahamB's long list and don't trust my tired eyes, if some of the numbers I pointed out are indeed online...should I continue to list more? (I'm continuing to compare with GrahamB's list whenever I have more time)

Yes, I can see 3996 and 3993 in the DE site. The others exist as well. I didn't compare the list that GrahamB provided, I was just checking if there are any PDFs that I have not included in my (own) list or missed.

Attached below is a list of available PDFs in the DE site as of today (10 Oct 2014). I didn't do any editing, just paste it as it comes after copying form the site...

Ha Ha! I never found that downloadable file tigana- Thanks! It makes my list redundant but never mind. In any case, Geobra clearly intend to carry on uploading plans until they have done all the ones which exist (hopefully), so it might be more helpful to create a list of sets for which no plans are known to exist. Here (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/klicky.pl?partnum=i0000) is part of that list, sets in PlaymoDB where 'Instructions Do Not Exist', but there are many other sets where no plans are known (I have 1541 on my list).

Hi tigana123!     Thank you very much for sharing with us your spreadsheet of Building Plan PDFs!  Did you find a way to actually download the list from playmobil.de or did you just "slog" through it the way Graham and cheng did with their lists?  If you downloaded it, could you also share with us how you accomplished the download?  Thanks!

I didn't download the xls from the PM site. I just put a space instead of a number in the (PDF) selection box so that all sets are presented and then selected all the sets and copy-paste as text in the xls.

Did you copy them one at a time or as the whole group?  If you were able to copy and paste the whole group at once, could you please please please share that secret method?   ;D Thanks

Here's the direct link to that long scrolling box:
http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Include-BuildingInstructionsProducts?phrase=%20&format=ajax

Select all (Ctrl-A, or Select All from Edit menu), Copy (Ctrl-C), paste wherever you want, you're done.

Mind you, there are often some available that don't show up here immediately (6111 (http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=6111) comes to mind) but I'm scanning for them regularly, and for new appearances.

For my part, I select all of them but not necessarily by dragging the mouse over the all of them (!!!). What I mean is when I put a space in the PDF search box then all the PDFs start to appear in the box below but only 4 of them are shown at a time. I place the mouse slightly to the left of the first one, press left button and drag the mouse over the pdf icons all the way to the right (outside the selection box). This way even the pdfs that are not shown in the box (that is all of them!) are selected and then you can copy and paste (as text) in a file.

Interesting that there are pdfs that are not included in this list as Heather points out. If there is a list of them, it would be useful to me!

Thanks Heather and tigana123!

Ever since Heather first told us about it, I've been doing the "space bar" thing to check how many instructions are available but I've never had any luck with the "Select All" idea.  Knowing that you two had been successful at it made me try again.  I still had my usual problem which is that the whole webpage gets selected and copied but only the 4 sets showing in the building instructions window would be copied.  I thought the problem might be my browser (I usually use Internet Explorer) so I also tried it with Chrome - again, no luck.  But then I tried Firefox and it worked! There may be refinements or ways to make it also work with other browsers, but here is what finally worked for me:

1) Open Playmobil's website in Firefox
2) Get to the Building Instructions page, place the cursor in the window, and hit the space bar (we all probably know how to do this by now.)
3) Wait until all of the sets have loaded (currently 1870)
3) Put the cursor on the blue bar between the arrows (below the thumbnail images) and pull it all the way to the right.  This may take a little time and a few tries but eventually you will be at the last set (currently set 5801)
4) Place the cursor just to the lower right of the last thumbnail image (the little hand will change to an arrow) and right click (assuming you have Windows O/S)
5)  Keep trying until you get a small window with just three choices: "Copy" Select All" and "View Selection Source."  Choose "Select All" and then "Copy"
6) Paste everything into a spreadsheet using the "Paste Special" and "Text" options.
7) You will probably have about 185 lines of useless stuff that you can delete.
8) Enjoy the amazing list!

Thank you Heather and tigana123 for sharing your techniques!!!

This is nice description Indiana. I do use Firefox (!!!) by the way. Regarding your steps, I don't exactly follow 3-5. As I wrote, when the sets start loading and after a while (not necessary to wait for all icons of all sets to appear in the scroll window when you scroll to the right) I put the cursor in the left of the first image and drag the mouse (hold the left button) till the curson is out out of the box. All the sets are selected !

There are probably a few variations on the general theme but the important point is that you shared the concept in a way that others could make it work also!

Now that is what I call a helpful set of instructions! Thanks Indianna! :thanks: :thanks:
It's really tigana123 and Heather who deserve the credit.  Now you won't have to do any more "slogging" for a list (you must have put in a lot of time on making your earlier list - I gave up on that type of hard work!)  Now we should also be able to see fairly easily which sets are new to the list when Playmobil increases the number of available instructions.   :)

Not that I've seen. Ersatzteile-Finden doesn't take any wildcards that I've tried. I've programmed my PC to try every number in sequence and see what I get back. Not something for the limits of human patience to undertake! Sometimes I get pictures, sometimes names, occasionally assignment to a set; and I keep trying those with that data missing. Brute force, but that's all I have.

I can't figure out why they're not searchable via Bauanleitungen, but there they are. Still waiting for the rest for the city-service sets, the other "Aufklapp-Spiel-Box"es, and the zoo-cart 6636.

PlaymoDB List - 2015 Aufklapp-Spiel-Boxes 6156, 6157, 6158, 6159 now have instructions (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6156,6157,6158,6159;title=2015%20Aufklapp-Spiel-Boxes%206156%2C%206157%2C%206158%2C%206159%20now%20have%20instructions)

Now there are 1914 building instructions available at the Playmobil website using the "space bar" method.  I haven't had time yet to see which ones have been added, though.   :sparkle:

Here are the newly listed instructions, shown as lists from Playmodb.  It's great to see that they are continuing to add older sets to the online instruction database and not just new ones.  :xtree:

PlaymoDB List - First 40 new instructions of the 1914 available as of today (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=4382,4393,4394,4396,4397,5341,5342,5343,5344,5345,5346,5510,5511,5550,5551,6144,6145,6146,6147,7007,7043,7075,7093,7096,7098,7115,7134,7140,7144,7161,7162,7163,7164,7166,7167,7168,7175,7180,7185,7187;title=Your%20Set%20List)

Thanks Indianna. There are still quite a few older sets to add, but they are making progress slowly. I wonder if there will be any building instructions unknown to the Collector community? Probably not I guess.

Thanks Indianna, that's a great help! There are three I didn't have before: 7043, 7190, and 7203 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=7043,7190,7203;title=Instructions%20added%20to%20PlaymoDB%20Dec%204%202014). Not terribly significant, but a few more off the wishlist. I now have to grab them all and have a look to see if the part numbers of the instructions are different from the ones I have, and keep track of any new versions that need investigating for changes. There are probably a few dismally low-res part pictures that I can update, too, although that's firmly on the get-around-to-it list.

Heather - I'm glad my modest effort was of use to you!  I wish there was more I could do but, being not being a tech wizard myself I must just "slog" through (as my Playmofriend Graham does ;) )  I tried to see what else was on the Playmodb wishlist but there are still some technical difficulties there.  Did you get my email from a few weeks ago on that topic?  If not, I can try to send it again.  :xmascheer:

Hi Indianna,

Nope, didn't get your email. Thanks for the poke about the wishlist: two of the choices are fine ("List of newly updated sets" and "Sets needing verification") but the others are still not working. Most of the first one ("Woody's instructions") ought to be included in "List of newly updated sets"); and there are so few undersize or too-small klicky pictures now, that wouldn't be much good even if working. I've removed them for the time being, until I can get them working or a suitable replacement written.

Something useful to shorten up the wish list, would be information about what sets do NOT have instructions. It's starting to look as if they've made available instructions for all the current sets that actually have them (therefore sets without official instructions DON'T have any), but there have been exceptions, so I'd rather trust the eyes of those with the sets in their hands. Any buyers of DS sets, duo-packs, specials, promo sets, or other small sets, let me know what you can verify for sure has no plans, and I can take them off the wishlist.

The PDF count is up to 1921. The newly searchable PDFs (some were available directly before) are as follows: PlaymoDB List - Newly available in playmobil.de search (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6109,6110,6111,6112,6113,6144,6145,6146,6147,6367;title=Newly%20available%20in%20playmobil.de%20search)

Not searchable, but available directly (from the set-page at playmobil.de, or from PlaymoDB) are: PlaymoDB List - Not searchable but available directly (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6254,5359,7498,6635,6634,6156,6157,6158,6159,3911,6173;title=Not%20searchable%20but%20available%20directly)

6367 - Lichtelement Stadtreinigung (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6367) is a new set: blinky lights for 6109 and 6110. Not a new part, but now available by itself.

Hi Heather!
My low-tech "slog" comparison yielded another set which is now searchable at the Playmobil website:  7414 City House Addition.   :elf:

:)9 I left that off the list since I could have sworn it was there before, but obviously not! 4892 and 5489 were marked as added too, but surely to goodness they were there before. Possibly not searchable though. Finicky system!

Heather - I've had 5621 in my list since mid-October when I learned how to download all the available pdf numbers - is there anywhere on Playmodb where I could compare my list of 1921 numbers to your list?   :xholly:

Henry - can you tell us how you came up with all those pdf links?  Thanks!   :xmascheer:

- I used a script written in python (http://"http://www.python.org") to 'ask' http://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/ if there exists SETNUMBER(1000 ... 9999)pdf.pdf or not.
- so I got a list of 1976 SETNUMBERs for which exist pdf-files (see attachment)
- I fetched (using another python script) the html for each set of the list from playmodb and searched if it contains a link/URL to 'http://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/SETNUMBERpdf.pdf' or not

Wow!  That's impressive, Henry - way beyond my level of tech expertise.  Thanks, too, for sharing your list of set numbers!   :xmascheer:

Just finished doing a comparison of lists and found an interesting thing:  I had 2 sets on my list that were not on your list.  For set 3252 Zoo Fencing, putting the set number in the website search box yields a result of "1 building instruction found" but the thumbnail icon is "no image available."  For set 5962 Ice Cream Cart, the search also yields "1 building instruction found" and the thumbnail icon is there, but clicking on the icon yields a result of "HTTP 404 Not Found."  So they have a little clean-up to do over at Playmobil.com.   :turkey:

It seems one should bypass their 'database'/web interface and search the pdf repository (http://playmobil.scene7.com/is/content/Playmobil/[insert setnumber here]pdf.pdf) directly and exhaustively. Probably there are other tools e.g. for automatic downloading that can be used to do such tasks regularly. Otherwise I can repeat this and will do so from time to time.  <*)

Thanks Henry, great job! That's sort of what I was doing, except I was parsing the text returned from the search for " " (space) and the pages for the current sets - so if the sets don't exist on the official site or are returned by the space-search, I didn't collect their PDF status. Obviously my process is flawed (but so is Playmobil's, since their search doesn't turn up everything available - and, occasionally, results that aren't, see 5962 and 3252!). From comparing Henry's and my lists, I find these existing sets that now have PDFs:

PlaymoDB List - Stealth PDFs (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=3285,3286,3761,3826,3827,4438,5762,6020,7415,7423,4059,7414,7416;title=Stealth PDFs)

...and these sets that aren't in the database nor the official site (I just checked), as of today, Dec. 14:

Sets to be added (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5625,5626,5627,5635,5968,5969,6120,6121,6130,6131,6132,6133,6134,6140,6141,6148,6149,6150,6153,6155,6162,6163,6164,6165,6166,6167,6168,6169,6182,6183,6187,6671,6675,6677,5368,5371,5702,5752,5857,7324)

Most of these, the 6000-ones certainly, we knew were coming - I guess the 56xxx ones are US-only, or some kind of exclusive. I'll get these added ASAP so the instructions can be fetched easily.

Looks like I'll be working on making this easier and more accurate. I have a few small errors to clean up as well. It really is a never-ending process!

Okay, gang, I've got all the new/unreleased sets I could find, added and tossed into a temporary theme, 2015 Releases (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/sets.pl?theme=2015+Releases&sortby=&focus=&pics=on). I fetched names for some of them from Spielzeug-World and pmobil.it, and some other sets without PDFs came along for the ride, so there's a whole bunch here. Pictures, proper theme, and other info will be added when they go official (so I can grab all the pictures and names automatically!) and as time allows for work that has to be done by hand.

Hand-work includes going through all those new PDFs and recording the partnumber of the plans themselves, along with the other info I keep track of such as printing date, number of pages, colour, includes klickies etc. Question-mark icons will remain next to the set-number until that's done.

PlaymoDB's count of valid, downloadable PDFs stands at 1976, same as Henry's. So, Henry, if you get time to re-do your full scan before I do, get your script to check PlaymoDB first so you don't need to check for any PDFs that I have listed already!

For those who wish to download a lot of PDFs at once, I recommend the Firefox add-on "DownThemAll". It's very powerful so might take a bit of puttering to get it to do what you want, but really does the job.

Absolutely, that's great! I can cut and paste these into the sets pretty quickly. The official site will turn up with some of these lists, but will take their slow time about it, I'm sure. Actually, let's start a new thread, one set per post to keep it organized. Mods, help?

I just pick single pdfs, type the numers by hand and add ad hoc descriptions to make the parts more easily recognizable.
I go through similar sets (like the knight bags) at once because they contain often similar or same parts.   <*) :xmascheer:

Your efforts would be much appreciated.  :)

For pdf pages with several numbers it seems to be 'faster' to make a screen shot, cut the part that contains the pictures and numbers, save it as .jpg and let it go through online ocr (e.g. http://www.onlineocr.net/, self explaining and easy to handle).
I have a 'workflow' now and expect it to become more efficient.  :elf:
Report will follow.   :)

Thanks for the info, Henry - nice to have a low-tech project!  Though I see you also (in your next post) have some higher tech options, too.  How can we best coordinate our efforts?  Is there a list of needed text inventory lists that we should be working from?  Also, how to avoid duplication of effort?

Heather - is there a particular format in which you would like to receive information?  Would it be useful to get files from you to check for accuracy/completeness?  Other ideas for help we can provide?   :xmascheer:

Though I see you also (in your next post) have some higher tech options, too.
Presently I collect the numbers from the pdf klicking on it (left mouse button) which allows to mark areas to be copied. I past these into a .jpg-file that I send for ocr to the link above. This is not necessarily faster than typing and still low tech but requires much less attention.

How can we best coordinate our efforts?
By sending pms.

Is there a list of needed text inventory lists that we should be working from?  Also, how to avoid duplication of effort?
So far I picked random sets from the Sets to be added list from above. I added the 2 latest discoveries (

All help appreciated - I might not get to handling stuff right away, but it's still in my inbox staring at me.

Something that takes a fair bit of time, that you don't have to be ME to do, is to verify inventory lists, with quantities. There are a lot of sets now that have parts assigned to them automatically by playmobil.de, but it doesn't say how many there are, and sometimes leaves out a few. Have a look at the "Sets needing verification" in the Wishlist, http://playmodb.org/wishlist.php (http://playmodb.org/wishlist.php), to see the line that says "Parts Inv'ed - " under each picture. Those with text in red have instructions, but are not complete. Once I've determined a total part count for a set, and there are that many parts listed, that line turns green. For sets without instructions, that text stays brown, because there's no authority to say how many parts ought to be there. Sorry to the colour-blind, not ideal for usability purposes! It's not the only source of that information, though, just an indicator.

Here's an example: 5299 - Take Along Police Station (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5299&pics=on), at the bottom of Group #1. Red text.  The textlist, http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/listinv.pl?setnum=5299 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/listinv.pl?setnum=5299), has all blanks for quantities, and I can see it's not complete because there are no klickies. So, to fix this, copy the text list to your favourite editor (text, Word, Excel would work, whatever you're comfortable with), and go through the instructions page by page, filling in the quantity column.

If you find parts that are not on the instructions (like hair), make a separate list of parts to remove. They're likely subparts or replacement upgrade parts, and I'll handle them individually.

For parts you find on the instructions that are NOT in the DB, create a list with the part number, quantity, page (so I can find it), and a word or two of description - the way Henry has done descriptions is fine.

Post the three lists in one post in Henry's thread, http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14438.0 . The only format change I'd appreciate, is to have quantities in their own column, or marked off with spaces, dashes, something, after the number - it's difficult to get the computer to distinguish "4x", e.g., at the end of a line. Also, a total count of unique part numbers, counted from the instructions, would be a useful double-check.

Re: duplication of effort: for larger sets, either inventory from scratch or verification, why not post in the thread when you start? (If you're actually going to finish, that is: good intentions don't count!) This would indeed be a good use for a wiki - I'll look into that. In my spare time :)

Another game for parts detectives: tackling that huge slagheap of TO BE ASSIGNED (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/category.pl?sortby=description%2Cpartnum&page=1&category=TO+BE+ASSIGNED-none&pics=on). Yes, a lot of them are new parts and I'm just going to have to think up what they're called and what categories to assign them to. (I try to do this in conjunction with verifying a set.) BUT, a lot of them are really familiar looking! If they have German names, often I can match up the name with an existing part with the same German name, and copy over the English name and categories. But if they come in with no names, just pictures, I have to figure out what they are. And there's fourteen pages of them! Here's an example.

30 20 8262, the second part on the first page of the category linked above, is obviously a crown: 30 20 8262. Doing a text search for "crown" results in this: http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/textsearch.pl?text=crown&pics=on&sortby=partnum&lang=all (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/textsearch.pl?text=crown&pics=on&sortby=partnum&lang=all) and, looking through it, you'll eventually see this one: http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-20-8260 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-20-8260)

If I had a chart with columns "unknown part" (30 20 8262), then "existing equivalent" (30 20 8260) and "new colour" (gold), "new printing" (if any), I could set a script to assign the existing name and categories, with the new colour, to the unknown part.

unknown part    existing part   colour   printing
30 20 8262         30 20 8260   gold
...
...

This is likely to work best with those clear official white-background pictures, since sometimes pictures cropped from scans are small and harder to look at, and the decision is based on your visual appraisal and text-searching skills. (Try German and French as well, if you speak it and English is not giving you anything.) Anybody want to give this a try? Even a few would make a shorter list.

A few more PDFs have become available, and some sets that presumably won't have plans, have parts (gleaned from the NL or FR sites). The count still stands at 1923, so these PDFs are not findable by search.

:) I intend to get the lynx set - but will need at least another couple of cats...
The boat.. we don't need more of those boats, and the klickys are sort of... uninspired... The otters though... :) and the hats, those are nice too..

This hat? Hunter's cap, large front brim, turned up in back (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-07-9910) YES. Twenty years since we've seen that one. That big camouflage net's probably useful too.

Especially that hat, yes - though an "Ethan hat" in brownish is also nice (hey, the guy's name is Ethan!)

First of the Super 4 sets to have plans: 6690 - Dr. X (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6690). I should just wait till my full scan completes and post the whole list but I'm too excited :)

Heather, do you think this reissued hat is in the same colour (red-brown)? I was trying to buy them years ago from DS....well, maybe not even 10 years ago but was sad to find they were no longer available. Then blue ones came out and I had to buy a few....but now, its back(?) in brown....goody ;D

Same part number, so the chances are good. Might not be an exact match, but we'll just have to wait and see.

All the new sets (except the Fi?ures and the US-exclusives) are on playmobil.de, with links to PDFs and spare parts. I've brought in the spare parts to PlaymoDB, and although these lists are not complete and rarely include brand-new parts, they're still a good start. There are also some extras added to sets that were previously completely inventoried: they're likely to be klicky body parts, subparts or unprinted versions of included parts, or other odd things. I'll get them weeded as I go along.

henry_martini is doing a wonderful job typing up inventories, but I bet he could use some help! Head over to the sets 2015 (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14438.0) thread and add a parts list, for even a small set. I'm not quite caught up to what he's done so far, so double-check the thread before posting.

Thanks for the (very gentle ) reminder!  I said I would help with this effort, but I have found it difficult and confusing to figure out which sets haven't been done yet.  Is there a list somewhere that I have missed?  Meanwhile, I tried to figure out where to start by taking Henry's  original list of pdfs  (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14137.msg264485#msg264485) and comparing it to all of his posts of completed lists.  Some of the sets on the completed list were not on the original list so that also makes me wonder if I am missing something.  ???

I will dive in head first and try to do the first one on the list, 3175.    :)  I see it has already been done - I will find another.

As of now, and to the best of my knowledge, it looks like these are the sets still to be done:

Fair question, Anne!

The links to set lists that I've posted whenever reporting "done" have just been 2015 sets, since I suppose that's what people are most interested in right now. There are lots of others that need doing, of course. And, as you've discovered, new PDFs have become available since Henry posted his first big list.

One thing I just now got around to doing, was to show in the setbox (in a page with a pictorial list of sets), different icons for when the link to playmobil.com is a PDF and when it's a link to an official list of spare parts. As of now, the icon that goes to the PDF for the set is a crossed wrench and screwdriver, like it is on the official site, and the list-of-spare-parts is a little checklist. (I thought the puzzle piece just too obscure.) See here for comparison:
PlaymoDB List - 6055,6069 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6055,6069;title=6055,6069)

6055 has only an official spare parts list (or does at the time of posting, will eventually have a PDF I suppose) and 6069, a PDF. The little rainbow by 6069 means that there are instructions for the set, and they are in colour; this also displays on older sets that have no PDF, but have scanned colour instructions. The question mark by 6055 means the instruction status is unknown.

In short: You can hover over any icon with your mouse to see what it means.

Set with instructions have the line "Parts inv'ed" in either red (incomplete) or green (complete). If that text is in brown, there are no instructions and so it's hard to say whether the set is complete or not. Not useful to the colour-blind, but not the only way to get that information.

So, if there's a list of sets you're wondering about, paste them into the form in Your Set List (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl) and have a look. The form is quite forgiving: you can paste in numbers separated by spaces, commas, with extra text in there, whatever is easy to copy from - you can even highlight a bunch of text with set numbers from the official site and paste that. You shouldn't have to mess with it much to get it to work. In groups of 40 or fewer, you can see the pictures and get all that visual information above, so you can see what's left unfinished.

Any help, Anne? Hope so! Keep asking if anything's unclear - I'm sure you're not the only one confused. I've been working with it so long that it's hard for me to see it with users' eyes, so feedback like this is helpful.

Couple of things I'm working on: a page with the full list of the almost-2000 downloadable instructions; and a way to display sets not only by theme and focus, but also by year of first release (and all sets with a year). I'll announce when they're ready.

And if you'll excuse me, I've got some inventory catch-up to do to put Henry's work into production!

Thanks for the various info, Heather!  Being the rather persnickety former operations person that I am, I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to give you useful data.  I am sending you an email with an excel file for set 5559 in which I used your existing text-only inventory as a starting point to verify the parts you already had for it and to add the others shown in the PDF instructions.  In the course of doing this I had an observation as well as a few questions:

I noticed that when the text-only inventories are displayed at Playmodb, the spacing seems to be off by an extra tab (or some other character) in the header of the form.

And a few questions:
- is there a database form for each part that we should/could be using to provide you with good data?  It seems like there is a lot of information about each part beyond the basics (including many new features you have added such as German and French part names) so how can we efficiently provide/confirm this data for you?
- in the text-only inventory, is the "x" in part quantity needed?
- should we be developing a color chart?  I know this is probably a giant project but an interesting one.  :)

Meanwhile, I'll try a few more inventories.   :D

Oh yes please! Magenta, dark pink, even red, who can tell?

Anne, you're doing great, I'm replying to you in depth but wanted to get this out.

I actually have interesting news about colours. First, seemingly unrelated, is that playmobil.es has the spare-parts function, and so there are now, coming online in increasing numbers, Spanish names for parts. (I'll have those in the db, in the same place as German and French, very soon - the scraper scripts are still rolling.) This sounds unimportant to anyone but Spanish speakers EXCEPT that a great percentage of the Spanish names have a three-digit number tacked on the end - and from what I've looked at so far, that number is highly correlated to colour! Parts detectives may have noticed some colours showing up in "official" English and French names, which is sometimes helpful but harder to search for (e.g. "red", sigh. ).  But three digits at the end of a name is pretty distinctive. I'm working on a way to isolate them, so as to figure out more clearly what numbers correspond to what colours, so we can fill in colours for "orphan" parts with no picture or set assignment - and so maybe figure out where they go. I'll have some examples to show in a while.

Besides all that, there are dozens of parts with pictures but no colour - I just haven't gotten around to assigning them. Anyone want to take a page of the TO BE ASSIGNED category, sorted by colour (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/category.pl?cat=TO%20BE%20ASSIGNED;subcat=none;pics=off;sortby=colour) and type me up a batch of colours? Your best guess as to magenta vs. dark pink is better than nothing.

At the Speyer show there were color chips in a display case. They had a bunch of them in sheets on the wall and you can see the sticker on each. Colors have a code 000 000 00 format, so perhaps these numbers from Spain refer to the first three digits? We just need to match the part and that number up with one of the color swatches and if it works we will know. The second set of numbers appears to indicate the type of plastic used. I put a couple of photos of these online at my Flickr account

The other shots of the wall weren't as clear but much of the data can be figured out. Just for fun I will go ahead and compile a list of the shown colors with the first three numbers, the German name and an English translation. We can hope it will correspond to those numbers from Spain.

. . . Parts detectives may have noticed . . .

OK, I definitely want to be a parts detective!  We can have badges and dark glasses or maybe just the old reliable magnifying glass and deerstalker cap - either way, I am IN!   ;D

Tim, I remember when you posted those color chip photos last year - I was positively drooling - at least until you went on to say this:

Yes, I have decent enough shots of the exposed chips to get numbers/names for them all. We were told at the factory that they use 4000 different combinations of the plastic beads for colors these days. So this display would just be the tip of the iceberg.
   :omg:

so we may have quite a task ahead of us.   ;)

Looks like we've hit the jackpot - to some extent, anyway. From a quick lookover, the three digits in the Spanish names do indeed correspond to these chip colours. I've loaded the data I have into PlaymoDB and made it searchable. Try PlaymoDB Parts Containing "104" (in Spanish) (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/textsearch.pl?text=104&pics=on&sortby=description&lang=es) as an example. Three-character searches are normally too short, but if they're all digits and in Spanish, I fixed it to let them through.

Next project: to find parts with no colour data or picture in PlaymoDB and determine the colour based on the 3-digit code. They won't all be correct (e.g. 30 29 0130, ASA ZODIAC 104, is grey) but I think it'll be a help. We can also standardize all those green, light green, yellow-green, dusty green, dark green.... entries too.

Heather, it is great how much data you are extracting from Geobra without them being in a position to object. After the terse refusals I (and no doubt other people) have received from Geobra when making direct requests for part number and set inventory information, it is gratifying that they are now unwittingly making this available. Somewhere in their archives, there is data on every set and part they have ever issued. This must be the case (for example, they have never used the same part number for two different parts), it fits with their whole well-organised modus operandi, though it beats me how any of this (except perhaps the exact composition of the plastics they use) can be commercially sensitive, as they have implied in the past.

Three-character searches are normally too short...
Oh yes! I get round this by searching for "axe,", " gun", "hat ",etc. (i.e. putting a space or comma in the search term), which sometimes works!

We spoke too soon I guess - I see that today there are fewer links to official PDFs that still work. I'm scanning through and removing my (http://playmodb.org/icon/playmobil_de_instructions_favicon.gif) links that are dead. They include the Easter eggs, model show, forest adventure sets, pirate and brushable-pony bags, waterpark, and frisbees/rocket. Sets not yet available, pretty much. There are 1950 PDFs in the online search list, which is now closer to the number that I have links to. (Bear with me while I tidy up a few loose ends.) Word to the wise: download anything you see that you'd like to have, since it may disappear!

I have been working on colours (I'm sticking with the Canadian/British spelling - also grey instead of gray :). ) Tiermann was kind enough to send me his file based on his photos of a display of Playmobil's color chips (121 colors) and I combined that with Heather's list of 3 digit color codes from the parts finder on Playmobil.es (118 colors.)  There was some overlap but the combined list gives 164 colors.  Now I am looking at parts with the Spanish color codes to see what those color names might be - a work in progress.

But when I looked again today, there are 50 parts listed, including the gold-printed bible and the middle-sized oak leaves which I particularly want. :)
But none of the klickies is listed. :(
So, its worth rechecking the parts lists/pdfs on the playmobil website if, like me, you are looking for a particular part.

The re-scraping to add new parts is underway! Thanks for the reminder, Graham. Often happens that the selection changes according to what's actually available. There are almost zero klickies listed in the Spare Parts on the official site for any set, so we have to refer to the instructions for them. I can tell you though, regarding 6464, that all the klickies in 3627 got brand-new official pictures, so I'd say that's a good sign that the numbers will be re-used.

The instructions for 6043 - Polizei-Mannschaftswagen mit Licht und Sound (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6043) (police van), and 6055 - Feenwäldchen mit Einhornpflege (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6055&pics=on) (fairy house) are online.

Total official PDF count now 2018.

That's good news, Heather. Still a few gaps amongst older sets (e.g. 3627 still has no pdf).

There are almost zero klickies listed in the Spare Parts on the official site for any set

Would it be possible for you to post a list of all the klickies currently showing on 'find spare parts' (and therefore available from DS), which data-scraping has revealed, if its not too much work to create such a list? The ones which are available seem few and far between and with no apparent logic to their inclusion (unless DS simply over-stocked with some?).

Hm. I don't update data from the official site on-demand, just in batches every few days. I know what *has* been visible, because it has a picture or name; but even those are not necessarily available at any given time. I also run scrapes for series of part numbers on spec, just to see if pictures or names will show up. An example of the latter is 30 00 6693 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30%2000%206693) - I wrote a script to ask the site for data on a list of part numbers I don't have yet, and this one showed up with a picture. It's not actually available to order, though. Also, the Ersatzteilefinden functionality is a javascript pop-up, so I can't even link straight to that for any number.

HOWEVER, this page has an ordinary URL: Fresstrog II (http://www.playmobil.de/30021810.html) and for *available parts*, (not the klicky listed above), replacing the number in the URL with another part number brings up a similar page. I might be able to make use of that - even just to make the link without checking on availability, to let the user click through and look for themselves.
Title: Re: PDFs online at playmobil.com
Post by: GrahamB on July 13, 2015, 17:52:47
Thanks for that, Heather. I can see why the page with a standard URL could be easier to interrogate than a Java pop-up, but I personally don't know how to write script to automate this, so I use the SLOG method, entering numbers manually into a dialogue box or URL!

I was keen to see if there is any pattern or logic to the klickies which can be ordered from DS, as well as perhaps letting people know what they are! I found  this guy (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-00-9042) on DS, but not the other three from 5127 which I need. And at £2.30, it is not particularly cheap (cf £1.99 for a mystery fi?ure).

The NHL sets have instructions after all! Here they all are:

PlaymoDB List - NHL Sets 2015 with plans (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5068,5069,5071,5072,5073,5074,5075,5076,5077,5078,5079,5081,5082,5083,5084;title=NHL%20Sets%202015%20with%20plans)

Missing is the referee set (the German equivalent doesn't have plans either). From the parts list for the German set 6191 - Eishockey-Schiedsrichter (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6191) come the skates, helmets, and whistles - and stickers! I'll add the first three to 5070 - NHL® Referees with Stanley Cup® (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5070) as a good guess, and make temporary klicky numbers for both (they've different printing, so different klickies). There are no pictures of the stickers for either set online, so if you get either set, please scan the stickers for me.

Official PDF count: 2100

PlaymoDB List - Riding Stables Sets Released In 2016 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5684,5685,5686,5688,6927,6947,6948,6949,6950,6968,6969,6970,6971;title=Riding%20Stables%20Sets%20Released%20In%202016)

Curiously, four of the larger sets have two set numbers shown on the plans, so I created sets for those other numbers. They're not on any official site. By virtue of using the same plans, the sets themselves must be identical - so why the different numbers, I wonder? Different packaging?

Anyway, the PDF count is up to 2134.

Since sets numbered 56xx seem to be usually US-only or some other regional distinction, that makes sense. Those two you mentioned, differed only via extra flashy stuff (in English only) on the box, so we will see eventually how these look.

The camping sets now have PDFs.  (All except 6892 - Wildwasser-Rafting (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6892) - I expect that has no plans at all.) Part lists quite extensive, but incomplete as yet. I added in the klickies, though.

Sets 9155 and 9156 have also been discovered as alternate set numbers for 6890 and 6891, for release in American packaging I'm assuming.

a pink van

I would have made sense if it were a 1970´s VW van...

I don't know what to think of the pink van.  I think the Van in a great design and it's been available in red, blue, and green. I think it might sell with but it's definitely not something you'd see everyday unless it's meant to be used for a fashion boutique business car.

Two more sets emerge from the depths: a pink van occupied by a couple of fashionistas-about-town; and a police hatch-back car. The ladies are not new, but the police officers are (although pretty much the same blue uniforms as always).

Links to PDFs now available - I knew I'd forgotten something. Yes, Gordon, it uses the previously-issued electric car-top part 30 82 3343 "Electric emergency light unit" (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-82-3343).

Thanks for the confirmation, Heather.  Hopefully, it will retrofit on the previous model police cars.

6862 - Modeboutique zum Mitnehmen (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6862)
6864 - Surfer-Pickup mit Speedboat  (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=6864)

The take-along dress shop and surfer's SUV/trailer/boat now have PDF's. I've added some part pictures, but they're not complete yet.

Also surfaced is PDF evidence of the other camping sets, in the "alternate" (US maybe?) 9xxx numbers. If anyone sees boxes for these 9xxx-numbered sets, please let me know - I have a feeling it's only the packaging that differs.

PlaymoDB List - New PDFs May 17, 2016 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6862,6864,9152,9153,9154;title=New%20PDFs%20May%2017%2C%202016)

New PDF count: 2198.

Absent from the officially-available list, but added to the DB, are instructions for the earlier batch of carry-cases, latest NHL sets, and 9050, the Sentry. PlaymoDB List - 5649, 5652, 5650, 9038, 9050, 9032, 9022 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5649,5652,5650,9038,9050,9032,9022;title=Your%20Set%20List)  Thanks to Lee and Andy who helped me fill these in!

I'm still missing some that ought to have instructions (not including sets I know are not yet released):
PlaymoDB List - Need instructions (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=4894,5651,5667,5668,5669,5670,6770,9012,9013,9014,9015,9018,9019,9020,9021,9023,9024,9025,9026,9027,9028,9029,9030,9031,9033,9034,9035,9036,9037,9038,9039,9098,9099;title=Need%20instructions)

If anyone has these and can help me with the inventories, please get in touch.

The new DS sets are online, with instructions for some and parts lists for all, right on time.

42 sets with instructions, here they are:
PlaymoDB List - DS 2016 sets with instructions (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6469,6470,6471,6472,6473,6474,6475,6477,6478,6479,6480,6481,6482,6483,6484,6485,6486,6487,6494,6495,6496,6497,6499,6500,6503,6504,6505,6507,6508,6509,6512,6513,6514,6515,6516,6517,6520,6521,6522,6524,6526,6527;title=DS%202016%20sets%20with%20instructions)

The thumbnails I have to put in by hand, so I'll get that completed gradually over the next while. Volunteer help welcome.

16 without instructions (figures and the like):
PlaymoDB List - DS 2016 sets without instructions (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=6476,6488,6489,6490,6491,6492,6493,6498,6501,6502,6506,6511,6518,6519,6523,6525;title=DS%202016%20sets%20without%20instructions)

I'm having trouble with links to official links to parts lists, in that the lists have been made invisible for quite a few sets that used to show them. The parts are still there in the HTML code, but they can't be shown! I suppose if they're not available to order, then there's no point. I'll work on removing the link for sets that don't show the list - but for now, it'll just go to the page on the official site. Luckily I can scrape the parts lists from the code, not just from what's visible, so the inventories are much more filled-in than they would be otherwise.

PDF count: 2242!

Are the parts lists posted before the PDFs are available? Do Geobra remove the parts lists once they have posted PDFs? I bet it's not that simple!

Sometimes they are, yes - or at least would show up when "showSpareParts=true" was added to the URL. (That only works for some sets now.) I think the part lists aren't showable when the set itself is not available yet. On my end, I replace the parts-list icon, or link on the set-page, with the PDF one when the PDF turns up. The difference between "showable" and "not showable" is in the HTML itself. But even when not showable, the parts are still there in the HTML, so I can still harvest them for the inventory page. (Whew.)

It does include those - it's the number that shows up when you open the search form and hit "space". It's to make it easy to quickly check if new ones have been added.

and by the way... 5671 - Take Along Horse Stable (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5671) ;)

Oh, that spacebar trick, yes I had forgotten that :-[

Thanks for the 5671 correction, Heather.
There are still three broken links (which count towards the 2291 total): 3252, 5379 and 5671. Each gives the result '1building instruction(s) found' but no pdf.
