Title: The GREAT Parade
Post by: specialist on February 18, 2017, 15:29:28
When I started customizing I was inspired by the colonial figures over at gardenwargaming.com (which seems to have fallen asleep somehow). I showed a bunch of figures forming a parade inspired by the Delhi Durbar back then.
Five years ago I got some space in the cellar reserved for my playmobil and parallel to working on so many different topics I worked on the new "Great Parade" for those past five years assembling 625 customized figures. Now I have the feeling to have come to an end (for now) and here they are.
The space on the shelf is needed for a new project and before boxing up the figures I took some photos.
I start with an overview and pictures of the different "scenes" will follow. There will be pictures of all figures.

For those not familiar with the Delhi Durbar: I got a lot of inspiration here: http://www.beau-geste.com/sets.php?pid=7

Ralf,
You may not have awakened Garden Wargaming (http://gardenwargaming.com), but it looks like you just woke me up ... :)
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL PARADE !!!
Thanks for posting it here!
All the best my friend,

Wow, they are so colorful!

Love the "brownies" (no surprise there, I suppose :P)

Amazing to see so many parts from all over the themes in there...

Also amazing: the drums on the camels! Looking forward to more details :)

(What I can't wrap my mind around are the men in those high heeled shoes.  Maybe they can be boots too? But - unfortunately - I can't see them that way :( )

That's a wonderful looking display. Too bad it has to go away for a while, but I understand the desire to freshen up with new ideas.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Are any of the figures based on historical pictures? How about the military units?

Wow! That is certainly impressive. I followed your link to learn more about the Dehli Durbar (of which I was totally ignorant) and then looked at all the pictures again. You have created a wonderful sense of the procession (and the British Raj) in all its pomp and ceremony. I love the spectators in their finery, the variety of ethnicities represented, the opulent buildings and especially the beach hut recycled as a palanquin! Stunning!

@Macruran: Most of the military units are based on historical units...as accurate as possible with original parts.

Great ideas for Indian buildings!

Ralf, even after almost ten years, I am still absolutely amazed at what you're able to create with original Playmobil parts.

Thank you very much for continuing to share your incredible talent with our Playmobil community!

ONE HUNDRED AND THREE PHOTOS !!!

That's a lot of work!
1.Do the research!
2.Choose the Playmobil parts!
3.Create the Playmobil figures and buildings!
(Has anyone counted how many individual Playmobil figures were used?)
4.Pose the Playmobil figures!
5.Take the photos!
6.Select the photos!
7.Post the photos online!

Yes, that's a lot of work!

Ralf, thank you !!!
BTW, your Ghurkas are wonderful! (Would have never thought of using the surgeons hat.)

All the best my friend and thanks again,
Richard

However, I must quibble with the way you've mounted your bayonets.

@Macruran: more or less.
My harddrive ist full of pictures from this period of time, Most of the figures here are somewhat loosely based on real units, either they have the same colour scheme or they have the same style of headgear etc.
Using only original parts (and those from Schenk) I often can only get near a real uniform but most often the figures get the real vibe which should be enough for a toy.

I updated a few figures and the parade seems to leave India. For Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee troops from all parts of the empire came to London. So here are e few lancers from Australia.

Apparently, all of you seem to really like this wonderful thread which Specialist started here at PF in 2017.

As Specialist said, "When I started customizing I was inspired by the colonial figures over at gardenwargaming.com (which seems to have fallen asleep somehow). I showed a bunch of figures forming a parade inspired by the Delhi Durbar back then." That was way back in 2008!

So, it appears that many of us have been enjoying Specialist's Great Parade now for more than 12 years!

That's one long beautiful parade!

So, it appears that many of us have been enjoying Specialist's Great Parade now for more than 12 years!

That's one long beautiful parade!

It certainly is!

And in addition to The Great Parade, Specialist has started at least 14 other topics in the last 4 years to show his wonderful custom figures and armies.

I counted 4,450 figures created for these 14 topics (I didn't attempt to count the figures in The Great Parade)!
