On the German Website, it looks like Playmobil's designers have updated the products page (http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Search-Show?cgid=S_ARTIKEL) with the new logos that accompany each series.

Oh wow! That's quite a change. Not sure if I like it or not, but it does look more up-to-date. I wonder if the boxes will be changing too.
-
:0 :0 :0 :0 :0
I hope that don't show up in the boxes! Expect for just a couple of them, the rest are SO BAD CHOICES! :'( :'( :'( :'(

I agree! I like the themed heads. :(
-
The look of change. I like the new pictures, but as for the boxes, I wish they'd go back to the old days with the dioramas!
-

me too, that was simple and nice.
This lettering make it look more like L360 >:( >:( >:(
-
Well, maybe that won't show up on the boxes. We can hope. I do like how they have the modern themes under City Action and City Life. It in no way implies one is for boys and one is for girls, just that one is more about work and action and the other is the more home and leisure type stuff. So parents can percieve it as boy themes/girl themes, but they don't have to. And the zoo, which isn't girly at all, is included in city life.
-
I am not sure if this is good or bad... Its certainly good for the current consumer audience of Playmobil... the boxes need to be appealing to kids after all... As for us, we can only treasure the good old days of what we have left from old boxes.
-
awh ...... that's intresting, thanks i hadn't noticed it ;) it's good for the site but not the boxes

They don't seem appealing to me. :( I don't think fancy fonts are ever as appealing as little images. Maybe they could have just updated the heads for each theme if they really wanted to make a change.

Ditto. I think that most of the new fonts are definitely bad choices. :-\

no creativity suddently..... they just use the computer :(

Aye, just like the boxes! Though the little heads are made on the computer too... but they were much more creative and unique.
-
i like the way the sub-categories are now organized and the logos are cool but i don't like them for Playmobil!! :-\
-
I think its interesting that they would have english on the German website.
-
I like some of the logos, like Knights, Top Agents or Dinos, but other ones like Country, History or Dragons look a little generic :-\. As far as the boxes go, I know that the Summer Fun logo has been on the boxes of the U.S. exclusives, so I think it might be a trend for all of the themes.

They must have it in English so it looks the same on all websites. Its an int'l comoany after all, and English is the int'l language of the world :D
-
I miss the friendly playmobil faces.
-
I like the playmo heads. The new fonts are too trendy, blends in with the other companies. Looks like L***. :'(

What's up with the Xmas logo? NOTHING xmassy about it! Is that a flower over the i ? ??? ??? ??? ???
-
very lego-ish, isnt it?
-
I know that english is an intl language but the German site has never had english. Until recently, the set prices were not on there either. With the English and the set prices on there, I wonder if they are gearing up for International sales?
-

sadly yes :(

That is really weird! ??? Surely they could have come up with something else.

a star to say the least.... 8} 8} 8}

Maybe they didn't want to offend other religions ... who knows.
-
I can confirm the new logo's are on the boxes as well. My wife got the Brachiosaurus set (which is a marvel actually) for my son's doctor visit and the Dino logo is printed right at the right of 'Playmobil'. Seems the new trend for now.

And there is no little head? :o

But if they were thinking that way, they wouldn't have a Christmas theme at all! Or would call it a seasonal theme, or holidays theme. If it's going to be a Christmas theme, why not have the logo match it?
-
Though I dislike the words, the Christmas one seems Christmas-like to me. But the Santa head is much better...
-
The playmo faces were the best . Nowadays playmobil makes rocket launchers and weird robots . Aw well. i suppose its 'evolution'

The faces weren't always there. I can imagine your kind of philsitine circa 1982, going: 'gah! i dont like twisty klicky wrists' or something. There was somebody who stopped buying PM in the late 70s because they decided to introduce female klickies, probably.
:)

 That would be interesting, to say the least. But as far as the heads, if they had had words first and then moved to the heads, I think I would have liked the change. The heads are just cool, how they are all the same yet different for each theme. It's a nice sense of collectiveness for all Playmobil.
-
Mind you, I liked the heads. But then again, I think we're often too hard on PM - myself included. If we think they gave us the Romans a couple of years ago (surely one of the top five themes EVER), we could and should forgive them pretty much anything. And now ... after years of complaining about it, they are giving us cowboys and indians, too. So ...
-
I agree. It'll be sad if the heads go though. :(
-
Win some lose some. Let's imagine we've jumped back to the mid-90s thanks to a time machine. Circa the Robin Hood theme and the steck castle. I would love those ... but Id be very very bleh-y about most other themes, like the construction sets and so on. You can never make all the fans 100% happy with everything, all the time. I would still like to have a decent, database-based DS service, and I would really like a continuation of the Roman theme and so on, but things still look good-ish in general. There's much more to be done, obviously (esp in keeping the adult collectors happy), but I think the rebranding is necessary in keeping up with the times.
BTW i loved how they named the cavemen theme 'history' ... who knows what next year will bring, in terms of historical themes ;)

Romans as well as egyptians didnt last very long though, no further sets etc were ever made ..... I think the words ' giving us' is a bit misused here in my opinion of course :) :) :) :). Playmobil as a company want to make toys that sell and long gone are some standards and ethics set by the creator of it all Hans Beck. Today there are rockets, lasers, auto look like guns, angry faces and some very weird sets if you ask me . BUT not all companies are like playmobil some companies didint trade their product values and principles for profit but worked for maximising profit withing those values/principles instead..
anyways as for the romans the arena was a very poor choice given its bloody history and the so many people who died in them. i think it was a very very poor choice by playmobil if you ask me and not surprised it obviously didnt sell. other romans sets could have been more appealing like a hippodrome to keep the specators' theme in persective with 4 horsed chariots for example and of course a roman agora ( market ) or roman house ... anyways i love the romans series and have hundreds of them BUT still i think playmobil has gobe a bit off its values if you ask me . i would rather see playmobil shuttign down that turning into a toy line that will have nothing to share with how it started.. anyways.....this whole notion links to the new website too :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
I have two complete arenas btw and lots of ds parts for them to make a big custom one . love the set actually ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-

Hmm, I didn't notice that before. That does seem promising, but maybe they meant for it to be "prehistory" only.
-
Mmm. I dont think ppl are that much bothered about the fact that christians used to die in the arena, really. I mean, a film like Gladiator was still a massive hit, wasn't it?
I think that at the end of the day it's wrong to idealise the 'golden era'. Back in the 70s and 80s, the choice of sets was still very market driven. That's why there was the western theme, because cowboys and stuff were still very popular among kids our age (Im 35). Same goes for Space and what have you.
I agree themes could last for longer ... but then again I think it has to do with decreasing attention spans. Attention spans are diminishing by the minute, in all forms of entertainment. I mean ... if you take a look around you, teleserials are nowadays more popular than feature-length films, partly because they are very well-made but also because they are shorter. Id rather watch a 30 minute show nowadays, than a 90 minute film. I think it has something to do with why a theme seems to last only one year, too. In a roundabout way perhaps, but I still think there is a link.
-

There's only so much you can do with prehistory, though. And I don't think there were many PM themes that lasted only one 'outing' ... or were there? Any ideas, people?
-
They are releasing that Celt special, so maybe there is hope for some northern European "History" sets that are later than the cavemen. ;)
-
Playmobil as a company want to make toys that sell and long gone are some standards and ethics set by the creator of it all Hans Beck.
Hans Beck had very little say in how the company was run, he was a toy designer not an executive. Times change and so do marketing tactics. What worked then does not now.
Today there are rockets, lasers, auto look like guns, angry faces and some very weird sets if you ask me .
If we asked you all we would have is medieval and Nuremberg Guards, not very fun to a broad audience ;)

Really, who ?

As if the medieval theme does not have a bloody past
i would rather see playmobil shutting down that turning into a toy line that will have nothing to share with how it started.. anyways.....this whole notion links to the new website too
Really, Porsche is not doing the same as Professor Ferdinand started but I bet you would not want to see it shut down, its a business to make money not a church/culture :eh?:
-
It would be interesting to see what the flagship sets of each theme (eg the arena, or the new pirate island) sell, compared to the smaller sets. Ive no doubt that price plays a big role there, and it is one of the reasons why - I think - the arena didnt sell that much.
-
The design of the arena didn't seem all that great to me. It didn't seem to be good enough for the price, anyway. The Roman theme is definitely an interesting one, even though the Romans I have are always used as enemies , but I reckon the arena would have sold better as its flagship set if it was more robustly made or included more.

for one a straight wall section. Then we could have made large areans for chariot races or ?
The Sphinx was a strange set to me. The house was nice but I would have preferred it to be stecks or even system x. The way it is now is so limiting. I think the pyramid was the big seller. I see it very often for sale used, at least a lot more than any other set from this theme.
I love the roman theme and bought them all many times.
-
I think someone has mentioned it already but I can confirm that the faces are gone on the new soccer stuff. It has sports and action printed on the box beside the logo.
-
my guess is that they didn't use a very christmasy logo for the christmas theme so that it sells in other seasons of the year? (not many people find appropiate seeing seasonal ads when it's not even winter)
or who knows, but it's indeed odd ???
-
No head on this one... :(
