Title: Kaufmannszug Redux
Post by: Hadoque on March 06, 2018, 00:37:08
I got inspired to redo Playmobil´s famous Color set 3660 "Kaufmannszug" with updated klickies (with additional & more recent accessories, hairs, etc), and to also do a version with normal coloured Playmo and 99% custom-klickies.

Just 2 pics of the normal-colour version to start with.
More coming later ... not sure yet when, must try to resize larger pics proparly to fit here within the 100kb limit, but they can´t be too small either.
I´m not using photo-hosting sites. And the updated klickies for the new Color version aren´t all finished yet, so that one is coming last.

I'd never heard of or seen the original set before - it's beautiful!

Looking forward to more of your recreation!

You've got some tough competition there, Handoque. Will you be able to match this beauty (http://www.klickywelt.de/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=58336&hilit=kaufmannszug/) at Klickywelt (log-in required)? ;D

Looking forward to seeing your creation.

Nuremberg was a major centre of manufacture during the middle ages. There was a saying "Nürnberger tand geht in alle land".  Nuremberg merchandise goes to all lands.
There's a mural painted (originally?) in 1910 with this phrase on the commerce building in Nuremberg.

Looks familiar right?

What I don't get about the "color" set is that the artist painted the correct Nuremberg flag whereas the playmobil one is wrong as the stripes are diagonal. This is correct for the shield, but the flag should have horizontal stripes as seen in the mural above.

Looking forward to your take on this Hadoque.

On a shield or crest the stripes are typically angled - photos of mine from Nuremberg

The Bavarian and Franconian flags show up but I don't remember seeing the city flag as such except on the mural.

Here we go.

I´m having trouble with the overview-pics of the whole set-up. Those pics have to be resized a whole lot to upload them here as attachments, so these are too small to be good. Nevertheless, here they are.
Also with the lighting conditions I´m not that satisfied.

I might have seen it before while surfin´around on KW at the time, can´t remember.
I won´t be able to beat the quality of his pictures, of that I´m sure. Photography isn´t something I´m very good at.
But concerning the whole set-up itself and the klickies that go in it, I certainly take up the challenge.

Following pictures are a kind of "walk around".
Most show each time a certain part of the whole set-up, so they are bigger & (somewhat) better then the 3 "overview"-pics already posted.

When looking attentively, some of you might notice some small differences throughout the pics;
During a break when taking these pictures, I changed a female´s hair-colour, put a Troubadour on a horse and painted stripes on the shoulder-pads of a few figures.

Attached a pic of a box of the original Color set.
(not my box btw, I saved the pic when the set showed up in the ebay-shop of a wellknown German collector/seller.)

On the box the set-up and colours are somewhat different when compared with the picture of the original set from Playmobil´s archive, posted here at the start of this topic.

I´ve tried to stay close to the original while adding more figures & accessories.

Concering the animals, I decided to go with the small 2nd generation horses for the wagon. Reason is that when combined with the bigger 1st generation or 3rd generation horses, they look (imo) like mules.
For the mounted klickies, I chose the 1st generation horses because these can be fitted out with medieval accessories. Not available (yet?) for knights etc. with the latest (3rd) generation horses. I could have used 2nd generation here too, but those are a bit small and I also wanted to keep a link with the horses from the original Color set.
The additional cows at the rear are latest generation, to have most or all animal-generations represented.
(For the dogs I could have stayed with the original moulds, but decided to use later versions)

Thanks!  :)

And good to know at least SOMEONE likes it (enough to leave a comment).
Btw, critical comments or ideas for improvements can be left too.
But if nobody really cares, I too will seriously consider not sharing my stuff here anymore. The forum is going steeply downhill since quite a while anyway.

Amazing work Hadoque!

Great posing (the boy holding his mother's - well, I assumed! - hand is a great one)

And those colorful guards are amazing - I wouldn't think that'd work if someone TOLD me, but seeing them? Gorgeous!

A shame there are still no proper "horse things" for these newer horsies... And you successfully mixed them.. I usually find the first generation horses SO far from the others.. but you made it work fine :)

I wish there would still be sets like these.... Of course, can you imagine the price? Still would be much better value than system why and blinky winkies. IMO.

Apologies. I saw the topic on the tabby, but net is sketchy, and tiny screen not fit for pic threads - besides, I can't comment on it - I need a FULL keyboard, I'm afraid. And then... usual. Since I was there, though I DID mark it "unread", the board doesn't stay "unread". So..

But I can relate to that. I stopped a lot of mine for the same reason. :(  A shame. We try to keep this place alive, but there doesn't seem to be much interest. I am afraid one of these days we will only have THAT site. Where I can never find something twice.

I love these sorts of displays, but where is the whole thing together? It is afterall a homage to the original set so we should get to see a nice side on shot showing the whole procession.

The 1st gen horses with their harnesses look good. Would still like to see that old flat black hat back.

Thank you for showing, Hadoque. It is a very nice creation.

As you are putting in a lot of effort to get exposure, would you please consider posting the images at some image-hosting site and linking them here, rather than uploading locally as attachments? I mean, only when you do the former will your creation be seen by LOTS of people (that is, the unregistered visitors, who cannot see any attachments).

I think such is preferable because you work will be more widely appreciated, and PF will look cool to the outside, encouraging the public to join.

The forum is going steeply downhill since quite a while anyway.

I agree that PF is not as popular as it used to be, but am reassured that things are moving uphill again (about a year ago, thinks here were ominously quiet). But any support will do, so showing your things here to the world (and not the few insiders), would be a great idea!

Best wishes
StJohn

I love the idea of recreating the scene from an early set with modern parts, especially as Color sets which have been coloured in with felt pens often look like a child coloured them in with their eyes closed (even on that box picture!)
Lovely job, very creative!

It can be frustrating to get only a few responses when you have put a lot of effort into creating something and sharing it. But if we stop posting for that reason, the site will surely die. It's like faith, if you lose faith shouldn't you keep praying until it returns, not give up?

PS I agree with StJohn about the way attachment photos don't really do justice to your work. I would be happy to 'host' your images on my Photobucket account so they could be linked here. I promise not to claim them as my own or use them anywhere else! PM me if interested and I will let you have my email address (large images can be sent by email).

would you please consider posting the images at some image-hosting site and linking them here, rather than uploading locally as attachments?

I have 0 experience with image-hosting sites.
I always prefered keeping my pics on my own computer and back-ups, instead of thrusting them to a 3rd party.
And I heard those hosting-sites sometimes disappear and then your pics are gone as well. Or suddenly they start asking money for it. But I´ll consider it, especially since resizing larger pics for uploading as attachments often makes them ridiculously small, like is the case with the 3 pics "of the whole thing" that Klickterix apparently missed.

I mean, only when you do the former will your creation be seen by LOTS of people (that is, the unregistered visitors, who cannot see any attachments).

Well, people can always register if they are interested.
And not everyone always has to see everything, some things are for the eyes only of registerd (verifyable) members.

Example:
Suppose I show here my entire Color-collection or my entire ship-collection.
If I show it as attachments - thus viewable for registered members only - and then someone manages to break in into my home and steals this collection, then I know I must shoot a PF-member, I´ll just have to figure out which one.
If I show it linked from elsewhere - thus viewable to the entire world - and then someone manages to break into my home etc., I´ll never have a clue who to shoot.
This may sound very paranoic, but I know some collectors whose house was broken into while they were on a Playmo-event and when they got back home their entire Playmo-collection was gone.

Thank you for your offer, that is very kind. I´ll PM you when I have a bit more time.
I´ll then select out some pics that will get "clearance".

:lmao: :lmao:

(well it's funny when we are joking about it, because in reality... I think shooting the culprit would not be enough!)

I understand your frustration Hadoque, but I hope you won’t give up on posting pictures of your creations, dioramas, collection, ... The way I see it; I try to create 3 or 4 dioramas per year and I take pictures of them. I post them here, because I have the pictures anyway and maybe I could be an inspiration for others and at the same time I hope more people start to do it, even if the replies are sometimes less than other times. I have to admit that before I became a member here, I also lurked a lot on this website (sorry guys :P ), but after a while and since the news that the PCC was going to close, I wanted to share my stories and pictures with you all and I’m going to try to continue this so other members might show their creations too one day! And I have no problem that people copy ideas, if it has an added value to the final creation, I can only support it!

They look great too, I meant I'd like to see it in future sets. Luther should have had this sculpt instead of the beret.

What do you suppose a set like this would cost, €100 or so? That is if playmobil did it as an official set.

Luther should have had this sculpt instead of the beret.

Yes, and the Leonardo Da Vinci figure from the Altaya/deAgostini History collection would have looked much better with it too.
Even DQ would have been better looking with it then with his Ranger hat.

What do you suppose a set like this would cost, €100 or so? That is if playmobil did it as an official set.

As an official set, I think substantially more if you compare with what you get these days from Geobra for 100 euro...
And it would come in a HUGE box with a lot of air, one that nearly fits through the frontdoor  ;D
