Ein Goldschmied fertigt Schmuck u.ä. aus Gold. Ein Goldschläger schlägt Gold zu hauchdünnen Blättern, mit denen man dann eine Oberfläche vergolden kann. Das sind eigentlich zwei Paar Stiefel.

A goldsmith would turn gold into finerey, cups... while a goldbeater just hammers it until it's turned into sheets thin as hair to cover other objects with. That's not the same I daresay.
