Title: Instructions for 3551
Post by: tonguello on December 30, 2010, 01:19:01
Hi all! I need desperatly instructions for this set.
http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3551

I got this set today.... no box. I think it is Antex for the quality of the clickies. HORRIBLE!
The instructions are very bad and are incomplete. Anybodoy who has them can send them to me please? PM me. Thanx.

Or else...can someone post some detail pics of all four sides and from above? I could manage with that too. Thanx a lot!!!  :)

ouch. I'm always afraid I'll fall victim to that on ebay. I hope you didn't pay an arm and a leg for it.  :(

I bought it from the argentine ebay so it wasn't that bad...in fact just to compare...only 15 dolars more than the submarine. Not bad for this set.

That seems like a lot to me! But anyway you wont feel bad drilling holes in it or painting it up if you decide to customize it. Sometimes I almost feel guilty altering a very old piece that is in good condition.

yes...that's my dilema.... I would only paint by the way....
I have to think about it....

anyway....  how do the strings goes? I have a white one, a red one and an orange one... in the pics I only see a white one.... this is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  8} 8} 8}

I should have these instructions in my Playmoshed in the box. I'll look & let you know tomorrow. Is there something you need to know about it, is yours new or used?

Thank you Bill. What is driving me crazy is the strings situation, the way to place them seems very complicated in the pics I could find, and there's nothing about that in the instructions I had with the set. The set was without box but sealed in original bags. I basically put it together, Im just not sure about some things.... and the freaking strings. I have three diferent colors.OH! and the anchor.... there is nothing to hold it still hunging out of the hull.... it keeps falling to the bottom of the sea  :-[

I was just getting ready to tell you what you have already discovered Gaston! I'm currently taking pictures of mine that I will attach to this thread. When I saw the lack of string attachment detail, I figured it wouldn't do you much good.

WOW BILL!!!! Thanks a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is what I needed! But how did you figured out how to do all that? are there detailed pictures in the box? or some other instruction sheet I luck of? or you customized it?
I didn't get that grey string but a red one and an orange one.... did you change that!?
The net is genious!!! does that comes with the set? not mine  :'(

Thanks a lot again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why wouldn't the instructions show how to attach the string?  ??? That's crazy.
I don't know! it is so not Playmobil to do that. I thought it was because it is an Antex set but the instructions Gassy sent to me are the original colorful german ones and it is not there either!

Glad to be of help, Gaston! I went by the multiple pictures on the box to route the string. There is only white, & grey colored string included in the set, no other colors. There are very long sections of different diameter string that need to be cut, & I recommend using a cig lighter to seal the ends to prevent unraveling. The net comes from 2 sets 3789 & 7187, It was used in the helicopter set 3789 to air lift fuel drums, but I find it extremely effective for fishing nets also :)9!

Some pictures of my 3551 Suzanne fishing trawler working with full add on crew & custom equipment. The string that is lifting the cargo hold cover, & empty net, being pulled by Joe the fisherman is a custom addon I did.

I got mine MISB when the movie "The Perfect Storm" was very popular! It was a triumph that I will never forget! A seller had listed several plastic sealed MISB sets that were Buy It Now at extremely reasonable prices! I bought a 4300 train station, my 3551 trawler ship, 3767 western church/school, & 3770 Colorado Springs station at the same time from the seller! I won't tell you the price I paid for them because it would make you cry ;)! A once in a lifetime opportunity!

It depends on the year of production. Antex was great at first. I have a medieval house which is PERFECT....but the boat is getting disappointing...  :'( I will customized it for sure now!

No, the sails are not custom they are original! They are orange, & I was required to install decals on them as shown.

Hi Bill! I finally got my strings and I'm going to install them tonight.
I have 3 questions so far
1) there is a communication wire (I guess) that goes directly into the comand post, through the roof. It ends right there...after the hole you tied a knot right? or it goes somewhere else afterwards?
2) There is another wire that ends up in a clicky's hand with a piece the clicky can hold. Is that custom? .... because I didn't get the holder....  What is it supposed to be:(
3) in the very front of the ship there is a string that goes from the top of the main pole to the point of the ship... it ends there right? the string holding the red ball (don't know it's name sorry) is a separate string, Right?
I think that's all!
thanks for the help!
Title: Re: Instructions for 3551
Post by: Bill Blackhurst on January 04, 2011, 22:39:37
Hi Gaston ! OK I'll try to answer our questions to the best of my abilities! 1. I tied a knot with a short stationary end at one end of the string, & pulled it up through the roof & tied it onto the horizonal front mast to rear mast string. There is not anything that the cabin end attaches to on the interior of the cabin, so there shouldn't be a long end after the knot.

2.The end being held by the fisherman Klicky is an added custom piece I designed to lift the white cargo hold cover, & to hoist the fishing nets on to the deck. It will need will 1 black pulley hook, 2 black winch hooks, & 1 or 2 rope handles for Klicky's to be able to hold on to it, to work if you decide to add one to yours.

3.There is a white string that has a knot that goes through the hole at the top of the front mast. It then is routed down to the front nose of the ship, going through the loop and then it wraps multiple times around the opposite side of the anchor chain tee horizonal post.

The string holding the red bouy is a separate string. I kind of tied it on the string in a custom way so I could slide the red bouy ball to different positions on that string. If you cut & tie the bouy ball in one position it will limit its usage.

I hope I'm not confusing you! Good luck!

Thanx a lot Bill. I think I understood everything. But looking closely at my ship last night I was very disapointed of the quality and decided 100% I will customize it. MInor customizacions, like paint and such. So if I set up the strings now, I'll have to take them out later and it doesn't worth it.
Thanks a lot for he help.
I'll show you pics later of the new boat.

Beautiful work Gaston!  :)9 Remember to place the anchor in the slot on the Right side of the bow to save room on the deck.

Thank you guys! Im happy with it now. Still need a couple of details that will make it look better.

BB, yes the anchor goes on the right side, but I was in a hurry and I forgot to place it.  :P

So here is the final version. I decided not to do all I planned at first and keep it simple.  :P
I added 2 crew members. One fisherman 3347 (Antex version with red arms, which looks pretty god btw) and a guy a put together. A 20 yo happy hippy named Brad.

I hate the sails so if someone is willing to part with theirs (the original ones not this Antex c$&%p) you'll be welcome.  :P

Nice paint job on a beautiful ship. You must have a steady hand to get it to look so good
