Well, it arrived today and many thanks go to Andi (Customizer) for his help in getting it for me. You can find background information here, again thanks to Andi:

It's a big set and I'm reviewing it in a small room, so I will spread the photo taking over a few days. Today, we start with the box and the rescue team's HQ.
It's a big box - 23 and 3/8 inches (59.5cm) wide by 19 and a half inches (49.5cms) front to back and 5 inches (12.5cms) deep.
First, box front and then box back:

Then the small pictures around the side giving detail views of the items in the set:

I forgot to show the box interior, so here it is:

Now the mountain rescue hut the team work from. It's a variant of the building site hut (they're called Portakabins in the UK) here:
http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3260.htm
but without the coffee making facilities and the window and door frames are blue rather than a sort of turquoise green, while the washroom area tiling is dark green rather than turquoisey green.
At the back on the left is the washroom area:
complete with sink and tap and loo, but not provision for a loo roll. The mirror works:
In the centre of then cabin is a work area consisting of a desk shelf with a slot at the back to take a map of the region and room for a laptop and other items:
At the right hand end of the cabin is a double bunk with two detachable bedding pieces:
Below the bottom bunk is a drawer for storing spare bedding and other items and there is room for a calendar on the end of the bunk unit:

I'll continue the revue tomorrow (light permitting for the photography), starting with the 4x4.
-
Wow, what a fantastic set !!!
Looking forward for the complete review.
-
You lucky man Gordon for getting this neat exclusive set. I really want to see your review on the new parts for the 4x4 .
I really like the green but that baby blue or turquoise is  wrong
As far as the toilet paper missing, they are in the forest so a leaf will do just fine :P
The teams logo looks like one of those silly stickers you put on that simulates a broken window or bullet hole.

I'll post it as fast as I can!

True, but preferably not holly!
The teams logo looks like one of those silly stickers you put on that simulates a broken window or bullet hole.
It's a fair copy of the actual bergrettung badge:
http://www.muhr-info.at/vereine/bergrettung.htm
and the badge is based on this, the eidelweiss:
http://www.muhr-info.at/vereine/bergrettung.htm

Quick chorus of "Doe a deer, a female deer, Ray a drop of golden sun" and then into "Climb every mountain"

Wow! tthat looks like a great set! congratz!
-
Thanks for the review so far, Gordon! Can't wait to see the rest. So far, I like the set very much.

Sounds like the voice of experience... :toot:

This looks like a great set Gordon, looking forward to seeing the rest.
One thing I noticed in the box pictures is that the hut is obviously occupied by a man - he's left the toilet seat up!

Thank you for these first pics Gordon! Looking forward to the rest!!!

Wonderful set, very special
-
Very nice indeed! Didn't know that existed.
If they can't cope without loo paper, they'll have to get a Portaloo (7867) and use their loo as a kitchen (ie NEVER use that toilet). Very few of our displays are missing our Portaloo (it gets loaded up on to one of our trailers and unloaded with an imaginary crane ::) ) Can't quite imagine how that lot would get up a mountain track!!
Or, just balance a roll (30 07 1620) on the edge of the sink!!!!
More importantly, what do they do for hot drinks? Not even a kettle. Disgraceful.
Would a mountain rescue team such as this be professionals, or volunteers, I wonder?

A lesson to be learned too, watch out for Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, & Sumack! It can turn into an itchy problem especially,........well you know! :P
-
 Sounds like some really good advice! :)9

Thanks for the clarification on the logo Gordon, now that you gave the real example it all makes sense and does look quite accurate.
Now off to do some itching :hehe:

Nice review of a cool set Gordon. I don't think I've ever seen this one before. Thanks for sharing.
-
It's a great set and your review is good as always Gordon. Looking forward to the rest!

Today, I'll review the 4x4 vehicle with the set. It is basically the same as the 3181 fire car and the THW version with the exception that it has a grey chassis (the previous versions had white chassises) and the interior is different. There are also differences in the colour of the door mirrors and hub caps which are black in this version rather than white.
For comparison, here are photos of the interior of the original versions. I've used the 3181 fire version as it was available having been out and about recently but the interior of the THW version was the same. So we start with an overhead view:
and then a view of the rear interior:
Now the new model, overhead view:
rear view:

There is so much that attracts me in this set:
animals
maps!
emergency personnel and equipment
hiking
the woods
safety
Even with the vehicles, small building, and RC component, it has an air of simplicity to it. The RC seems needless and I wonder how much that adds to the price.
Thank you for sharing (especially in such detail)! This is the type of set that colors me vastly impressed with playmobil.

Now the exterior of the new version.
First, a front three quarter view showing the typical rectangular 4x4 lines of the model - it's a Land Rover or a Mercedes G Klasse as you wish. Note that on the roof where the blue light unit goes on the other versions there is an orange sign with the unit's identification number, but more on this later.
A side view shows off the printed on insignia:
And then a rear three quarter view:
Finally, an overhead view:
Overall, I think it is a very striking and impressive livery and very close to the original as seen here:
http://gelaendewagen.at/artikel08/oebrd_noe_017.php
The emblem is an edelweiss and here's a detail shot:

We'll cover all or most of that.

The 4x4 has RC compatibility but the RC set doesn't come with it. One advantage of the new interior is that the RC unit can be fitted without having to remove the rear interior as is the case with the versions with rear seats. I may get the RC unit out some time and try it.

Thanks for the excellent detailed review Gordon! Although it won't show up here, it's interesting to see! Great acquisition!
-
I mentioned we'd come back to the orange sign on the roof. As you can see in the link in an earlier post, the real vehicles are fitted with blue lights and so here is the Playmobil version with blue lights fitted, and very impressive it looks too.
If you look at the rear interior photos, you'll notice that on either side there are some channels and I suddenly occurred to me what might fit in them - skis and ski poles! I have the original 3834 mountain rescue set (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3843.htm) and so decided to try the skis and ski poles from that set - perfect fit:
and
(http://i704.photobucket.com/albums/ww48/playmofire/Playmobil/Reviews/5008%20mountain%20rescue%20set/Skis3.jpg)
Well, it's the helicopter next but that may not be until Saturday, so keep watching folks!

Thanks, Bill, but wait until you see the helicopter!

Or maybe it's a woman who believes in leaving things as others would want to find them! ;D

As we'll see, they have a helicopter - maybe they'll take up your idea.
Or, just balance a roll (30 07 1620) on the edge of the sink!!!!
A possiblity.
More importantly, what do they do for hot drinks? Not even a kettle. Disgraceful.
I wondered about the lack of a kettle and brew-up facilities, but then decided that they would rely on self-heating tins of soup and high energy drinks and bars (the non-alcoholic sort).
Would a mountain rescue team such as this be professionals, or volunteers, I wonder?
I imagine they would be volunteers. Certainly in the UK the only professional mountain rescue teams are the RAF ones, and they are RAF members who have other duties but have volunteered for mountain rescue work as well.
-
That really is a beautiful truck in the white and black color combo. I would want to get a few of these as I would want one with out the insignias on the sides. I think it would look so smart as a civilian vehicle
Thanks for the detailed pictures :wow:
-
it's a very cool set Gordon - i didn't know it existed
thank you for the review :)
-
Great looking vehicle!! Thanks for the comparson pics!!
-
Oh boy, I have been lusting for this set (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/notworthy.gif)!
And from your pics it is as good as I thought .
-
I am very jealous - I nearly had this set for Christmas, but the ebay seller removed it early :( (on ebay UK as well)
Damo :)
