Some of you may already be aware of an issue that has come up in regards to posting pictures of our playmobil on this site. There seem to be two major hosting sites that most people use when posting pics here, Photo Bucket, and Image Shack.
The problem that is occurring is that for some unknown reason, our members in South America, or at least some of them, are no longer able to see pictures hosted by Image Shack. This is extremely frustrating to these members, as seeing each other's pictures is one of the major benefits of this site. We would like to ask everyone who is using Image Shack to please try to switch to another hosting site. This way, our friends will not be left out of these discussions.
I understand that some people are having some issues with photo bucket. If it has been a while since you tried using photo bucket, I suggest that you try again, using their new bulk uploader tool. It is much easier to use than trying to locate pictures off your computer one at a time.
If you have tried recently and are still having problems with photo bucket, please explain the problems you are having, and maybe someone here can help you work out what is wrong. Also, if anyone knows of another free, trustworthy hosting site besides these two, tell us about them, so we can try them as well. Thank you everyone for your cooperation.

never heard of bulk uploader, thanks for the heads up
will have to try it, i use imageshack myself (photo bucket will only let me upload .JPG images, which in comparison to the original .bmp picture looks pixelated and that sucks :-\)
are there many folks not being able to see imageshack pictures?
-
hi luis! as far as i know is a southamerican problem. so Luciano and myself can't see imageshack for sure. there are another member in chile, and of course all the guests from around here. :'(
all the pics I post are from photobucket, see if yuo see them pixelated.
thanks for contributing ;D
-
If the pictures are small enough you can add them as attachments here. There are also personal galleries for members here that you can use and then post links to them.
I use Flickr a lot for my own photography, but put my Playmo pictures on my own site and link to them. Flickr seems to be harder than some to link to from what I've heard.
-
have any members who are in the south asked image shack why their site is not working for them. I have a lot of old posts that use imageshack and it would be very time consuming to update them

ahhh ok, ok :)
as for images looking 'pixelated' -they're not significantly pixelated...it's just me, a hopeless perfectionist ;)

Me too! :-\

I don't think anyone is asking that you go back and update every picture you have ever posted. I was thinking more along the lines of from here on out, and possibly updating a few very recent threads.
I was also wondering the same as Ras. Luciano and Gaston, has either of you ever had an account with image shack yourself? if you have an account, it would probably be easier to contact them to find out why the site doesn't work for you. If you don't maybe you should try signing up since it is free. Is it possible that for some reason in your region you must be logged in to see the pictures?
-
Gaston, do you see these two images?

I tried signing up for IS and I was able to upload and even see the image afterwards ???.
-
And now I can even see the pics here!

Looks like IS lifted the ban on my IP :hmm:!
If it was for good behavior or not (I've been acting VERY nicely lately!), it seems that the issue is over. What about you Gaston?

I see only the first one (astronaut) the other is the frog in ice.
I'll try creating an account...hold on....

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see everything now!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yippee: :yippee: :yippee: :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:
how come we didn't think of this before, Luciano?
Apparently creating the account lifted the ban on the IP
thanx everyone!!!
-
Fantastic!!!! Problem solved! :yippee: :yippee: :yippee: Very strange that only those of you in that region would need an account to see the pics, but at least now you know!

It's not the creation of an account, but something to do with IP. IS doesn't ask for it's member to log on to see the images, so the server can't know who is trying to see the pics. The server only "releases" the image to the IPs that are oked by the webmaster. I think it's just a coincidence that now I created an account, and coincidentally they must have lifted the ban at the same time.

mmm too much of a coincidence. I couldn't see them 1 second before I signed in. and then it was ok. I think creating the account frees your IP. Isn't your IP always the same?
-
well there are some that are happy you figured it out what ever the reason
-
oh update info Luciano...
I MUST BE LOGGED IN TO SEE THE PICS. OTHERWISE IM BACK TO SQUARE ONE >:( WEIRD!

Yes, it stays the same. When you get on your work computer, see if you can see the pics before you sign in, the sign in and see if you can see them. If the same thing happens there, we'll know for sure.

it's from image hosting , sadly i cannot choose the seize of the picture (it seems or again i understand nothing !! )

Use the 2nd code called "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" copy and paste it in the area you type your post like you were
It should look like this, I had to remove two "[" so it would show the link and not the picture. I replaced where they were with bold "*"
*URL=http://piczasso.com/s.php?s=okd7m.jpg]*IMG]http://piczasso.com/i/okd7m.jpg[/IMG]
The real picture link on piczasso

In about 90% of the cases, your IP is dynamic, ie, it changes each time you log on to the web. Your ISP knows what IP you used each time, but the server that you are trying to access does not. When things like this happens it's because the server is denying access to "a part" of your IP, the part that tells the server from what region (or ISP) that you are from.

I see it if I pic on the link and open another window. I don't see it as attached.
-
Yeah, well same for me. It is not te right code to have it come up in the post. You need the image code for that.
-
forget it , if now image shark is ok , i will be good like that ans i can get the correct size using this hosting program computers ....
-
Really pleased that our South American members have found a way to view the Image Shack photos! :D
Excellent news! :cham:
-
sorry we celebrated in vane. i think I give up.
yesterday I opened an account and i could see pics while I was logged in. I logged out and logged in again and no pics.
here at the office I opened another account with this IP. again I can see pics while Im looged in the first time. then I go out and when I come back no pics.
I quit :(
-
Now that you have an account, try contacting them to find out the reason for this. They should have a way to contact customer service.
-

That's what the code button on the reply form is useful for. :)
Paste your code into the box, highlight it and then click the symbol that looks like a hash (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/Themes/default/images/bbc/code.gif) so it encloses it within the code tags.
You'll end up with something that looks like this:

Yep, I tried it here at work, and before I logged in my IS account, I wasn't able to see nobody's images (unless I went to their website). Looks like IS is limiting access to some IP addresses by demanding that the IP is logged in their server. Being blunt, that's a pretty puny and slimy way to try to get more subscriptions. So if they're going this low to increase subscriptions, there is something rotten in the kingdom of Denmark :hmm:. Caveat emptor.
PB never had any kind of restrictions like this.
