Title: Forum Time
Post by: bonniebeth on May 30, 2013, 01:18:54
This may sound silly, but it seems that the forum time is fast, and I'm puzzled over how that could happen.  ??? I realize of course that the hour depends on your settings, but it seems that it is six or seven minutes fast. It is 8:11 as I'm writing this, and the forum time is showing as 8:17. Strange. ???

I never noticed the forum time until I read this post - and it's true. It's six minutes fast for me!

For me it shows as 2.30am when it's actually 3.24am (I can't sleep, thats why I'm here   :-[ )
It doesn't allow for British Summer Time otherwise it would be 6 minutes fast.

You can set the offset in your profile area so that is shows the right hour for your time zone.

It can simply be showing the time on the server (plus offset).

Or we are just in a time anomaly and it is showing the real time.

6 mins off? Really weird! I've never seen that happen before. :eh?:

I'll see if I can correct it.

Bonnie's right. It's found here:

Profile > Look and Layout

Then click the "auto detect" link next to Time Offset and that will sort out the British Summer Time error you're experiencing.

Or we are just in a time anomaly and it is showing the real time.

;D ;D ;D

Hmmm. I performed a few routine maintenance functions but they haven't had any effect.

Get the feeling that the error must stem from server settings rather than any forum settings.

Wrote to the webhost's support team and they've fixed it. :)

I'm sorry for the trouble here! Looks like the server time had indeed
gotten out of sync for some reason. I've fixed that up and restarted the
server's time-keeping service (ntp), and all is looking better now. If
you happen to see any more issues like this, don't hesitate to bring them
to our attention.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let us know!

Now it is only two hours off (early) ...   ::)

That's easily fixed. :)

Go to the Look and Layout page in your Profile section and click the "auto detect" link next to Time Offset. That should sort out any time discrepancy you're experiencing.

You will likely need to do this at least twice a year whenever the clocks go forward and back for summer time. :)

Never noticed it before!  All my clocks have different times anyway.

Well, thank you, that worked but it was not off before.  I should not need to reset my time as I am on Mexico City/Saskatchewan Central Standard Time and we have no time changes here.
