Title: DINOS ON LOCATION
Post by: Richard on July 28, 2008, 18:26:40
Hello, Playmofriends ...

Some of you may have already seen the Playmobil Brachiosaurus and Local Iguana Photos (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=2413.msg27146#msg27146) in the Birthday Greetings section of Playmofriends.

And, certainly everyone saw Andi's Great Brachiosaurus Review (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1184.0) in this "Report and Review" section of Playmofriends. (Andi also did a review of the Volcano (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1263.0), as well as several others about the Playmobil Dinosaur theme.)

Gus has suggested, that since I received the entire dino theme for my birthday, that I post an "on location" dino review from the "Jungles of the Virgin Islands".

If there are enough members (more than five) who would like to see an "on location" review started here from the "Jungles of the Virgin Islands", then please post a reply this week, as I'm leaving the Islands at the end of August and will be traveling for a couple of months.

All the best,
Richard

Hello Richard

I would very much like to see an on location review from the Virgin Islands. I really enjoyed the pictures of the Brachiosaurus and "the locals" :yup:

Hello Richard

I would very much like to see an on location review from the Virgin Islands. I really enjoyed the pictures of the Brachiosaurus and "the locals" :yup:

Thank you, Lars ...

Wonder if there are more than four other members who would also like to see an "on location" review of the Playmobil Dinosaur theme from the Jungles of the Virgin Islands? ...  :klickywink:

All the best,
Richard

You seriously thinking, you can get away with it?  ;)
I would definitely be very interested in an "on location" review... It pulled me from my chair to see all these Iguana... Obviously, I have no idea about the fauna of Virgin Island...  :-[

It is a nice demonstration, btw, of why they called the first dinosaurs found "Iguanodons". Obviously, just looking at the bones, they look quite like brothers...

best,
socrates

Hello, Socrates ...

You seriously thinking, you can get away with it?  ;)

Hmmm ... so you think that there might actually be more than three other Playmofriends who would like to see an "on location" review of the Playmobil Dinosar theme from the Jungles of the Virgin Islands? ...

I would definitely be very interested in an "on location" review... It pulled me from my chair to see all these Iguana... Obviously, I have no idea about the fauna of Virgin Islands ...  :-[

Hopefully, there will be enough interest from the other members, so that everyone can see more of our tropical island.

It is a nice demonstration, btw, of why they called the first dinosaurs found "Iguanodons". Obviously, just looking at the bones, they look quite like brothers...

I had forgotten about the "Iguanodons" ...  :-[

The iguanas certainly seemed very interested in their Brachiosaurus "sister" ...  :klickywink:

Thanks for your reply, Socrates!

All the best,
Richard

Hi Richard,
I would be mucho interested in the dino review!
Besides, I don't see much jungle here...to much sand in the way.

That was a very clever play on, "not being able to see the forest for the trees," Jim ...

Altough you probably said that with a touch of sarcastic jest, Timmy ... It's actually quite true ...  :klickywink:

and of course the magic number five would be me  ;D

And, of course you are indeed magic, Tim! ...  :wow:

However,  the number needed is "more than five." ... :klickywink:

I appreciate your interest, gentlemen ... But, will we have another interested member of Playmofriends who would like to see an "on location" review started here from the "Jungles of the Virgin Islands" ... ???

(When I'm out in the "steaming jungle" with my bag of Playmobil dinos and my digital camera, I'm probably going to wish that I had said, "more than ten.") ...  8}

All the best my friends,
Richard

Well for once I am not too late to get in on the action. Richard if you would be so kind as to do the reviews (before we become extinct) it would be much appreciated!

Is a concentration of iguanas like the ones in your photo that common?

I missed Customizer's reviews ... He made what I was longing to see: the Brachio (big Dino) near a Playmo elephant :)

I'd like to see it, too, near a giraffe, once I have a pic, here (in a book), of a brachiosaurus near a giraffe, and it's an interesting pic, because giraffes are (maybe?) the highest living land animals (?).

It is great to see the Playmo comparisons ...

Your idea, Richard, to shoot them with the "locals" was spectacular :yup: ... It scares me and my klickys, though :0 :-\ ...

Do iguanas eat klickys??! :-[

Ps. In th book pic I have here, the brachiosaurus isn't as big as the one below ... For the pic below they must have based on a (the) big(est) fossiles found (?)

I guess, based on the cost for material, most of the playmo-dinos are a little out of scale... The largest found Brachios had a height of about 18m... They are just unbelievable huge...
Recently, I went with my son to the dino-museum in Berlin, and we estimated afterwards the Playmo-Brachio must be kind of an juvenile animal...  8-)

P.S.: The Albertosaurus-skeleton is about the size of the playmo-giraffes...  :yup:

I should never have taken the Playmobil volcano out for an "on location" photo shoot yesterday ...

Thanks for your good thoughts, Gus!

We actually feel minor earthquakes fairly often here. So, when the dome collapsed over on Montserrat we didn't feel anything that seemed very different. It was only when the sky became dark and ash began to appear everywhere did we realize that something really terrible was happening.

Click HERE (http://www.mvo.ms/) then click on "Activity This Week" for the latest report. The last photograph seems to have been taken about eight days before the BIG collapse!

They estimated that the cloud of ash erupted to a height of more than 12 kilometres (about 40,000 feet).

I will let everyone know when we can set out again for our "on locaion" photo expedition.

All he best,
Richard

Actually, Richard, that could be really cool--if your Playmobil collection were to go the way of Pompeii, future historians would rediscover that great toy.

The tricky part would be maintaining your pose while the stuff rained down.  We'd want archaeologists to realize the toy had an adult community.  But looking at drawings Peter Connolly made of Pompeii's last hours leaves me to believe the stuff could be uncomfortable.  Maybe you could impersonate yourself with a store mannequin and give it a fake beard before catching the boat for Florida.

DINOS ON LOCATION

The volcanic ash seems to be gone for now. And, the weather cooperated a bit today. Thanks to the break in the weather, we were able to test our expedition vehicle. (You didn't think that I was going to walk ... did you?)

We took some pictures of our AWD/AT amphibian. (Photos are attached.)

We also took a couple of photos of the trailer and cage. We haven't yet decided whether or not we'll actually be hauling the trailer through the jungle. We may just leave it at our base camp.

If you look at the photos carefully, you will see one of the first of our "prehistoric" trees.

NOTE: Andi (Customizer) did a great review of this set. Click HERE (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1242.0)!

The Trailer and Cage are interesting. Especially the Cage ... it uses the same faux Steck connectors as the Tree House (3217/5746). Click HERE (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=2382.16) and also look at the attached photo.

DINOS ON LOCATION

The AWD/AT Amphib is really a great vehicle!

We're all looking forward to taking the little amphib into the jungle. Hopefully, we'll be able to start out sometime later this week or the first of next week.

We've also been thinking that before we begin our expedition, it might be a good idea to fly over the jungle area that we're going to explore. That way we'll at least have some idea of what to expect.

If the weather holds, we may have some aerial photos to show everyone soon ...

DINOS ON LOCATION

REAL DINOSAURS?

What are the chances of our encountering "real" dinosaurs on our expedition?

There are more than 7,000 islands in the Caribbean! Click HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caribbean).
Many of these islands are uninhabited and unexplored!

Scientists speculate that the Caribbean islands may have once formed a "land bridge" between North and South America. Click HERE (http://projects.ajc.com/travel-guide/jamaica/info/depth/environment/).
(To support this theory, similar dinosaurs have been found on both continents.)

New evidence suggests that a giant asteroid may have struck the Earth near Colombia. Click HERE (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D0CEFD91430F934A35751C0A967958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all) for an article from the New York Times.

If the Caribbean Islands were a land bridge used by the dinosaurs and if an asteroid did hit Colombia 65 million years ago, there is a possibility that some of the dinosaurs may have been stranded when the Caribbean land bridge was separated into more than 7,000 islands.

On our expedition, we may actually visit some unexplored islands. Will we encounter any decendants of the dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth?

DINOS ON LOCATION

The weather has continued to cooperate!

Today we began our search for an uninhabited and deserted island.

We have a great pilot. Her name is Usha. She learned to fly when she was only a teenager in India. Her father is a highly respected Rajah and a very influential politician.

It's fun for me to just sit in the back and look around for an island to explore.

Hopefully, before the end of this week, we'll find our "Dino" island.

We attached a couple of photos for everyone to see.

In the first photo you see us using the pool deck for a smooth take off.
(We missed the flagpole.) ...

In the second photo we're heading out for our first day of exploration

Those darn flying raptors ...  :klickywink:

Michael and Tim, thank you both for your concern and good wishes. Unlike Timmy's scenario, we're not totally buried with volcanic ash like the victims of Mount Vesuvius (at least not yet) ...

With all the great moral support that we've received from our Playmofriends, this Dino Expedition is sure to be a great success.

We're hoping that we can find a deserted island close enough for us to be able to drive the AWD/AT amphib to it. Otherwise, we're going to have to do a lot of walking once we get there.

Usha is a great pilot so, fingers crossed, we hope that we'll find our Dino island soon.

All the best and thanks again,
Richard

We set out this morning and found an "uninhabited and unexplored" island that may be close enough for us to use the AWD/AT amphib!

Tomorrow (if the weather holds) we'll try to reach the island using the AWD/AT amphib from set 4175.

How prophetic of you, Gus!

We weren't expecting any surprises this evening, but we sure got a BIG one!

As we were making preparations for the storm, a live dinosaur charged into our base camp.

Fortunately, we had our dino cage (4175) all set up and ready.

DINO CAPTURE

The first storm came during the evening and lasted most of the night. Today the sun is shining and it's time to resume our Dino Expedition.

After we captured the Iguanasaurus yesterday evening, it was decided that we would load him (in the cage) onto the trailer. We would then drive our surprise visitor away from our base camp. And, once we were far enough away, we would release him.

The furthest thing from our thoughts was the possibility that this gentle herbivore might not want to leave.

After opening the cage gate, we soon realized that our new friend wanted to stay with us.

It actually took some physical pushing and pulling before he finally climbed a small tree. We then quickly drove off to continue storm preparations. (Fortunately, it was a small storm and we had no damage.)

The first photo shows the captured Iguanasaurus.

In the second photo, he's really giving me a look (I had to keep telling myself that he was an herbivore) ...  :klickywink:

As colorful as they are, Andi, the Iguanasaurus are almost impossible to see when they're in the jungle.

I'm using my favorite camera. It's a Canon PowerShot A510 (3.2 mega pixels)

Great pictures...  :yup:
wonderful. I'm speechless.  :wow:
Amazing quality and great story... I second Andi, the most impressive photostory I've seen a long time ago...

...and you are a really brave explorer, richard.

after all only one question remains: Does eating playmobil makes you a carnivore?  ???  ;)

Socrates, I have seen many "used" Playmobil figures at flea markets and boot sales with teeth marks. These unfortunate little Klickys must have been attacked by Playmovores pretending to be young childen ...  :klickywink:

Thanks again, Andi and Socrates!

IGUANASAURUS

Before any of our Jurassic scientists comment on our captured "dinosaur" ...This was NOT an Iguanodon nor an Iguanosaurus. It was an Iguanasaurus. There is a difference. Click HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iguanodon).

Hello, Gepetto ...

DINOS ON LOCATION

This afternoon we returned to our deserted island. We were looking for a potential landing strip for our bi-plane. (Which we never found. That is a very rocky and hilly island!)

However, we did find something else.

We flew low for a photo. And, we got a pretty good photo of a Triceratops. (Andi has done an excellent review of this set (4170). Click HERE (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1263.0).

We're wondering now what else might be on this island.

If the weather is good tomorrow, we'll take the AWD/AT Amphib over for a look around from the ground.

They say that a magician shouldn't reveal his secrets, but, in case you aren't a magician, Richard ...

How do you tie up the plane? :hmm: I can never see any threads, and I don't think it's photoshop applied (oh no  ), because the photos are too natural!

Tell us the little secret ;D ... The plane pics are wonderful! ... Gosh!, I wish I still had my two (1 red & 1 yellow). But I ran away from them even before moving to Portugal, back on June 1990 ...

(Then again, I don't think I'd have use for planes 8} ... But they look really great in your compositions! :yup: )

Looking forward to seeing more dinos!!! :D

Lovely pictures and adventure Richard.  :wow:

I think you're lucky the Iguanasaurus didn't find the break-away section of his cage, or he'd have had you!

Once again I'm tempted by the Dino sets, but so far I've resisted, maybe because I live in an urban jungle.  ;)

Well ... My first choice would show threads ...

Maybe you used a big piece of glass, with the plane on it, and shot a pic ... Even so, if done by me, It'd probably give odd reflexes ... Or not, I'd have to (and might, possibly, in the future (...)) try.

Was a piece of glass, then, or something else? These are the only two ways I can imagine.

Gus
:blackhair:

Ps. However, I don't think you used a big glass method with the first shots, showing the plane taking off of you pool :hmm: ... So, it's still a mystery. / G.

[Ps. # 2 ; And, once the plane isn't damaged (not to mention that it's pretty a rare piece of playmovehicle ...), I believe you don't actually throw it off, and take the pics ... 8} That would be shocking!]

[Ps. # 3 ; I disbelieve any non-physical levitation method, and I can't see any device installed under the plane to make it float ... ::) :P / So, I guess I simply have no idea :-[]

DINOS ON LOCATION

We heard some rumors that there might be some Pteranodon (4173) flying around our "uninhabited and unexplored" island. We were sort of excited until we saw what really looked like a squadron of pterodactyl ...  :o

Usha (our pilot-4174) quickly landed our bi-plane when she saw them and has refused to fly anywhere near the island. (I can't say that I blame her, as I was in the bi-plane with her when we spotted them.)

This afternoon, we took our AWD/AT Amphib (4175) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1242.0) over to the island to determine once and for all if this was really "Dino Island" ...

We had already seen a Triceratops (4170) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1263.0). But, we wanted to know if there were really more. And, were the rumors correct? Were there really Pterandon (4173) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1265.0) there as well?

We found a lot more than we had expected.

In the first photo we are carefully driving our AWD/AT Amphib (4175) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1242.0) over this very rocky, mountainous and hilly island.

The second photo shows some of the mountainous terrain we had to travel over.

DINOS ON LOCATION

Last night was very noisy. We heard loud cries in the jungle all night long.

None of us slept very well. Some of the sounds that kept waking us made our hair stand on end.

This morning we were determined to find the creatures that kept us awake.

In the first photo, you can see me after I had climbed up to one of the highest places on the island.

In the second photo ... I started looking around and quickly saw something move on my left. It was T-Rex (4171) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1218.0)!

And, this giant carnivore (Playmovore) was much too close..

DINOS ON LOCATION

Fortunately, it was not me that caught his interest. Above his head, a large saurus (lizard) had crawled out onto a fallen tree limb.

In the first photo, the T-Rex (4171) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1218.0) is about to grab himself a bit of breakfast.

In the second photo, something distracted the T-Rex (4171) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1218.0) and the lizard quickly slipped away.

DINOS ON LOCATION

It was a Spinosaurus (4174) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1264.0) ... A creature that lived during a totally different time period than the T-Rex (4171) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1218.0)! However, this was not the time to conduct a history lesson.

In the first photo, the two behemoths battle it out.

In the second photo, I make good my escape and feel safe and comfortable back in the AWD/AT Amphib (4175) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1242.0).

DINOS ON LOCATION

We didn't feel safe and comfortable for long!

In the first photo ... we saw something up  in the sky that was coming straight for us.
It was a Pteranodon (4173) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1265.0)!

That answered our question about the rumors. The rumors were true!

And in the second photo, it looks like this Pteranodon (4173) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1265.0) wants us for his breakfast ...

We've made a quick decision ... WE'RE LEAVING DINO ISLAND !

This concludes DINOS ON LOCATION

It has been quite an adventure.

First, there was the accidental bite by an Iguana.

Then when it was time to review the Volcano (4170) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1263.0), a real volcano erupted on Montserrat covering everything with volcanic ash. (Needless to say, the Playmobil volcano went back into the box.)

We had a surprise visit from a real Iguanasaurus which we were able to capture.

And, finally we were threatened by a real tropical storm.

I would like to thank the seven Playmofriends who voted to make this very different kind of review a reality.
Thank you ... Lars, Socrates, Jimbo, Timmy, Tim, Geppetto and Martin!

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to go on with your continued interest and your very generous words of praise. (In addition to the "seven" ... Gus, Macgaver, Rasputin, Sylvia, Anne and Andi!)

And, a very special thank you to Martin (our moderator) who bent the rules a bit, so that we could bring you this review as a great adventure!

The last photo in this Review are the Playmobil Dino sets that were used!

Thanks again everybody and all the best,
Richard

Gus, you have been one of the greatest supporters of this project. There are no words to tell you how much it meant knowing that you were going to be there cheering me on, night after night.

Thank you my friend,

And, Jochen (Little Jo) ...

I saw that you were visiting Playmofriends tonight. I hope that you visit this topic, so that you can see how much I have enjoyed the wonderful avatar (and figure) that you designed, created and made for me.

Thank you and all the best,
Richard

 Yes, indeed, you named my thoughts. I actually read this thread (still have to read five pages "new posts" -- started yesterday to catch up all news, all in all about 17 pages with new threads since I took a break for other activities) and was actually thinking this: probably I did a good job because I saw the avatar created for you in heavy action. This really spur on making again my own pics about certain topics (I already PMed to Gordon having some nice stuff in the customizing pipeline eager to show when it's finally finished).

BTW quite perfect pics and I'm still wondering how you made those lovely flying plane pics (absolutely perfect would be if the prop doesn't seem to stand still but is blured due to rotation ... maybe a little electric motor to make it spin around fast ... or a construction with an elastic band to "wind up" the prop and be released for the photo ...  ???). You always have this really beautiful weather on your photos, I'm really envious about this  :P

I give up, Richard.

How do you super-impose the airplane and the pterandons into the photo?

Is Photoshop that good at letting you cut one image and re-pasting it?  I don't see a border around the objects.  I don't see fishing line, either, and your objects aren't dangling, anyhow, suggesting you probably aren't using string.

It was fun reading and very well done. :wow: :wow: :wow:

Thanks for braving natures elements, storms, angry volcanoes, and I'm sure, a few bugs
and such like critters :yup:

The little amphibian driving down the road brought me back to childhood again.
(not a long trip )

Loved your aerial photos, they are awesome!....(I use a small Plexiglas disk the same diameter of the prop arch to simulate a turning prop.)  I know that your high speed shutter
on your camera stopped the prop in motion. ;)

Thanks again,
Best regards,

Great photo story Richard. I think it would be nice to have it archived in a story with out any comments in the middle .

I know many people would like to know how you created your flying effect but i must say a true master never reveals his secrets. I remember my uncle who was a Maestro Flamenco Guitarist . He would cup his hands in a fashion to hide how he was creating the music . So please do not tell and take the glamor out of the pictures. :shhhh:

I think he threw the stuff then snapped the camera really quickly.

If you wonder about the precision of the angles--

It took a lot of throws, but Richard doesn't have to worry about the day job.

No: I wander how the Playmo isn't damaged ...

either:

~ Richard has a team working with him, the guys catch the playmo with a big piece of cloth
or ~ he has a lot of spare flying stuff ...

No Tim: he because he hasn't a lot of spare green airplanes! 8}

Give up!

Besides, the pictures woud be blured, &c..

Just admit you can't make the slightest sense of how he makes it.

It's all right to me ... ;D I can live together with the unknown! 8} :toot:

What about you? :P
Lol ...

Somebody told me that on Saint Thomas there are a lot of hot air geysers that could support the weight of a Playmobil item for the duration of their discharge.

So it seems pretty certain that Richard is exploiting that natural phenomenon.

Or else he has one of the locals holding it up for him.  On a lot of these islands, the natives are pretty invisible.

Richard's pictures of the flying playmo objects are really according to the new Indiana Jones movie ... ;D

Therefore, I think Richard may be considered as the Playmoworld Steven Spielberg ...

Macgayver (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=2287.msg28124#msg28124), however, would be more like ... erm ... Mcgyver in the Playmoworld of customizers!

You see, these are two different arts, and NONE of'em is actual magic --

Richard makes illusionism;
Michael, stuff kids like to see, and would love to do themselves (like a bomb with a piece of paper and a couple of stones and a match ...).

Very happy to see you back at PF! ...

Great suggestions about the propellor! Interestingly, the propellor was actually spinning when the photos were taken. As Jimbo already correctly surmised, it's the camera shutter speed that makes the propellor appear to be stationary. Unfortunately, if I replace the propellor with a plexiglas disk as Jimbo suggested, how would the little bi-plane fly? ... :klickywink:

Jochen ... I'm in Houston, Texas today and I join you in being envious about the beautiful weather in the Virgin Islands ...  :sadklicky:

Good morning, Tim ...

They don't have cameras and locations on the continent then???  ;)

Actually, I've dragged Maisie and Fred along for the ride.  So, everyone should soon see some travel photos posted under F&M's "Excellent Adventure" topic.

Thanks for the wonderful story Richard, it was as well done as I suspected it would be.

Thanks, Tim ... That was a very nice compliment ...  :-[

The "On Location" plans for future "reviews" may be a bit ambitious:

The "working title" is A HISTORY OF THE CARIBBEAN through Playmobil set reviews.

We will "stumble" upon isolated islands that have been "frozen in time" because they've been geographically isolated and cut off from the rest of the world.

We might call the series the:
The MYSTERIES of the CARIBBEAN ... ON LOCATION

1. It was probably very appropriate that we did the Dinosaurs first!

2. The next "on location" could be the first Native Aboriginals ....Arawaks, Caribs, ???
(We could review the old Jungle series (I will need to get them from the Canada house).

3. The native aboriginals could be followed by the Conquistadors and remnants of Columbus' crew.
(They actually found the "Fountain of Youth") ...
:klickywink:

4a. Are any of the descendants of the Caribbean Pirates living on some of the uncharted Caribbean islands?

4b. Do we want to do the early sugar plantations? Hmmm ...
:hmm:

5. 1940s Vichy French and Germans in the Caribbean?

6. That's probably about as far into the future as we may want to go unless we do smugglers or something.

7. Underwater Exploration with a "stumble" upon the last of the Atlantis civilization.

As you can see, this could take a lot of time, but if everyone is interested, it could also be a lot of fun ...

Thanks again, Tim ... And, all the best,
Richard

I'm becoming a convert to the Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt series, despite Cussler's occasionally abysmal English, and thought the various submaries would do very nicely for a Dirk Pitt story.

My problem is I lack access to a safe, clean body of water to do the stories in. My birdbath was too shallow, the River Thames too dirty, though the bathtub works in a pinch. A nice outdoor pool would do very nicely!

Hey Martin, do British motels have swimming pools?  In the states, most motels above the rank of "Motel 6" have a pool, even if not large.  I worked at a Comfort Inn in college.  The pools are usually empty on weekdays.  You could take a short holiday and take your stuff.

Or if you have something like a YMCA, you might be able to find pool time late evening.

Or, hey, my uncle who lives in Lake Jackson near Houston has an in-ground pool... well, my other uncle in Kansas City also has a pool, but I'm not yet willing to tell him about my closet hobby.  And, besides he'd just sit around making wise cracks.

But, yeah, I share your pain.  I've been wanting to do something with my boats in an environment I have control of in case I capsize something.

Get an aquarium, Martin! ... (Do you use this word in English? ...) A glass box for water, to grow fishes. It's a perfect (and right sized) place for underwater indoors Playmo submarine adventure, and it could give you wonderful pics ... You might even get some real fish ... Preferably some that look like sharks! :)

I'm sure I could find a hotel with a pool, but they cost more than a few of Gus's chrome golds. I'd rather spend the room fee on more Playmo (heck, with my Roman army I already have).

I had three aquaria, but gave them away last year, after killing all my goldfish by misreading the instructions on some whitespot medicine and putting in 10x the correct dose. Even the biggest wouldn't have allowed the big 2-man sub to turn round, unfortunately, and as usual my major filming constraint is lack of space.

I think I'll have to do some Hollywood tricks like Rasputin did so effectively with his recent photstory. He filmed day-for-night, I'll do dry-for-wet.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway guys - I'm not lacking for ideas, just the time, space, money and will.

There are various tricks you can use to give an underwater look to a setting. Lighting is important, it should be focused to the front and a bit blue or blue/green in color with the distances dropping away into darkness

Oh, WOW!!  I hadn't seen this thread previously and I LOVE it!  What a marvelous way to show off new Playmo sets.  Argh, apparently you've done your job right too, because now I'm seriously trying to figure out out to get those dino sets into my possession.  And previously I was just happy owning the little Deinonychus that I ordered from DS.  And what with the Brachiosaurus set being recently retired, I better get on this!  :o

All your photos are utterly gorgeous and though I may be more a fan of temperate weather and cool forests, I'm finding myself quite envious of your beautiful Virgin Island scenery and all the vivid colors it contains.  Not to mention your little reptilian neighbors.  The jewel-like greens of the Iguanasaurus was very striking (green is my favorite color  ).  What luck having one wander right into your camp.  ;D  It was smart of you to capture it for a little photoshoot before releasing it again.

I am also quite enamored with your ability to magic the plane and Pteranodon up into the sky where they belong.  That shadow of the flying dino is particularly convincing and leaves me stumped.  What a visual treat.  If this is indeed what your on location photos of Atlantis will be like, than the wait will certainly be worth it.  :wow:

RETURN TO DINO ISLAND ...

A few days ago, we returned to Dino Island.

(In the attached photo, a small bit of Dino Island can be seen on the right side of the picture.)

There were such strange noises coming from the island, that I almost dropped my camera in my rush to get out of there.

However, we are thinking about putting together a second expedition to explore Dino Island. If we go back, we will have a heavily armed escort with us.
